food and beverage

I was there 4 nites and had to eat out three times: food was just terrible. How can you make us to eat the same bad quality food day in and day out. I vacationed to Mexico three to four time per year and most of them are good or acceptable. World buffet: other resorts have theme nigh for enjoy different food of different world. should change the name to "left over world buffet". Mexico buffet: American mexico food is far better that yours. Italian restaurant: one of the bright spots of your hotel: okay food and very friendly and helpful staff. Caesar in particular. Bar makes good cocktail.

Worst place to stay

By far, of all inclusive resorts we've stayed at, this one was the worst! They let teams playing in a National tournament stay, clogging up the restaurants, elevators, and pools, not to mention they had very bad manners and their parents were no better!. The food was horrible, and the drinks were weak! Found out from locals this place used to be the Holiday Inn, and it was just that... lipstick on a pig

Great Value

I had never been to a resort or to Puerto Vallarta. I usually do cruises but wanted to try something new. I also was on a budget so wanted to make sure I crossed my t's and dotted my i's. Sunscape really checked off all the boxes for me. It was a beautiful resort, open bar, free food that was delicious. They had fun things to do, although I spent most of my time on the beach, and the staff was truly amazing. In fact, I would go back to this resort just for the service! I enjoyed their restaurants, the food was good. The only thing is certain nights, there would be a restaurant closed. I was disappointed that the night we were going to try the Italian place, it was closed. I definitely suggest paying extra for the SunClub. The extra amenities are worth it, especially the lounge (which has the top shelf liquor and water bottles!) plus the area on the beach. All in all, we were happy with the resort!

Great stay for the price

We just got back from staying five days at Sunscape, and we had a great time. If you keep your expectations realistic, you'll thoroughly enjoy this resort. Don't expect chandeliers and five-star service, but for the price we paid to stay four nights, it was perfect. Clean rooms and great staff. The pool and beach area do get crowded, but we usually grabbed a spot after eating breakfast around 9 a.m., and could find chairs just fine. The breakfast buffet is great - they have all kinds of options. The omelet station is amazing. The lunch and dinner buffet was only okay, generic food and not very hot. I could have skipped it and eaten somewhere else twice. Barefoot Grill was simple, but easy and convenient for a pool-side snack. Tiki Taco and De Mario were FANTASTIC. The service was just okay throughout the trip, we had our hits and misses. Typically, we ended up going to the bar ourselves to get drinks instead of waiting for the waitresses (who were very busy), but I didn't really mind. The BEST advice I can give is to bring your own cups. At the swim-up bar, we saw how the hotel's cups were washed, which was not really at all. We bought two Yeti-style mugs at Walmart before arriving, and we used those for drinks instead. Not only will that be cleaner, but they'll also fill up the cup, no matter the size, so you don't have to keep going back to fill up the small resort-provided cups. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Not nearly as noisy as I thought it might be, with so many families staying there. We had a great view of the pool and beach. Again, nothing special, but within my expectations. The staff was fantastic. Everyone made us feel welcome and at home. Lalo on the entertainment staff made an effort to get to know us and made sure we had fun at all the daytime and nighttime activities. There were a few things I would have changed, like better food at some of the restaurants and better service by the wait staff, but everything else was wonderful. We had a great time and already miss our Mexican home.

What's to Love

Family-friendly check-in Hollywood style - red carpet stairs and yummy welcome treats.

Resort passports that send the kids on their own adventure.

With the Sierra Madres & Banderas Bay as the resort's backdrop, your selfies are going to break the Internet (hey, they might!)

Spa luxuries like a Chocolate Body Wrap or a blowout that will make your hair shine.

Golden sandy beaches where you can kayak, windsurf or kick back while the kids make sand castles.

The kids will love the waterslide at the pool!

The Marina Vallarta Golf Club is within walking distance to the resort. Hopefully you won't be yelling "Fore!" too much!

What We'd Change

Booking a Sun Club room would have given us a few more perks that we would've liked, especially room service at night. The kids were completely worn out from all the fun in the sun, and ordering in would have been a treat! Luckily, the restaurant let us take food to-go!

Why You Should Go

You'll have a drink in your hand in no time since it's only 10 minutes from the airport.

El Malecon is nearby with shops, restaurants/bars, art, & clowns performing tricks. (not the scary kind).

Surfs up at the Punta Mita surfing school where the whole family can take on the waves.

You can rent a boat and check out the famous Love Island at the Marietas.

Historical San Sebastian is a short drive away.

Swimming with the dolphins is a must and in the right season, the whale watching will blow your mind.
