Worst vacation ever

We just returned from our week vacation and felt the need to share our experience. From the time we arrived, we were pursued by the people in orange shirts. It was their stall tactic because the room would not be ready until 3pm. These people we later found out were the pre-screeners to get you to sit their tour and presentation and ultimately to buy a membership. Our representative, Jorge, was upfront and honest and told us that even if we didn't buy he would get credit for it. When we finally got to go to our room 3:45, we found it to be a little on the cold side We realized by the morning just how cold, 50 degrees; and that the A/C control was broken. It was fixed two days later. Once I asked for extra towels, I thought that it would continue for the duration of our stay. I had to ask almost every day. We found good choices of restaurants but did not tolerate most of the food here. The best option we found was the buffet restaurant, Windows. The bars were all inconsistent. A drink of the day was ordered in one of the restaurants and it was completely wrong. A google search for the recipe of this drink, Seabreeze still did not bring the correct mixture. They used fruit punch instead of grapefruit juice. The best find at this resort was Coco Cafe, coffee shop. Both of the young ladies that work here are the BEST. They serve everyone with a smile and a good sense of humor, even though some of the other customers did not treat them well. It was also cleaned and maintained inside the shop and the sitting area just outside. Their coffee choices as well as food and dessert items were all good. The pool was nice and we enjoyed the swim up bar; which was always understaffed. We were also taken aback from the state of hygiene in this country. There was garbage everywhere and no sense of urgency to get it cleaned up. It's lack of law enforcement and of traffic laws also add to us appreciating living in the USA.

Excellente!

We loved our Sunscape experience! First of all, these are organized trips-my husband booked the vacation just days before our trip, and he reports that he was contacted several times by Cheap Caribbean to see that all was in order prior to departure. All was in order-flights at reasonable times and a fine room at a resort in Puerto Plata, the Dominican Republic-was all I knew. Much of our wonderment came from delightful surprise at getting more than we expected! We arrived to gorgeous weather, a greeter at the airport, clipboard in hand. She directed us to our waiting bus, smiling warmly and assuring us that our name was on the list and we would be whisked away to Sunscape momentarily. Upon arrival at Sunscape, luggage was hoisted off to our check in area. We were offered champagne while waiting to check in, escorted to lunch, and finally settled into our room. I was amazed-our room was spotless, quiet, well appointed, and had the biggest bed I have ever seen! (Truth be told, it was two double beds put together!) Our room patio faced gardens and walkways, so not too private, but our location there kept us out of the late night music area, so I was happy. The pools had lots of activity- swim up bar, waterfalls, fun guests and sideline entertainment. The beach was clean and calm, lifeguards watching dutifully. We had a shaded area for Sun Club guests and lots of lounge chairs and fresh towels. Drinks were abundant and food was delicious. Every night a show was presented in the theater, games and shopping were available, strolls around the resort were nicely lit, and romantic corners were dotted here and there. You will find this to be a fine resort filled with happy staff who strive to make guests' experiences EXCELLENTE!

We just returned from a 6 day trip to Sunscape. Overall, it was a good experience. We liked the atmosphere- the pools were nice, it was clean, we enjoyed the restaurants. Our room was overlooking the main pool area, so it could be loud at times, but it was a great location to see everything that was going on. The only downside to the room was that if you tried to shower at "peak times"- around 5 or 6 pm when everyone was returning from their day out, the hot water literally dripped out. The Amstar reps were very nice and helpful- the pick-up from the airport was super convenient and they arranged our transfer back as soon as we got to the hotel. The staff of Sunscape were friendly, but were super pushy the minute we arrived, trying to sell us more options, trying to get us to sign up for a "welcome breakfast" so they could present a timeshare. We ended up having to be very stern so they would stop and let us check-in to our room (they kept telling us it wasn't ready). We purchased an option to have wifi throughout the hotel (standard/free is lobby only). If I could do it again, I would just use the lobby wifi and not pay extra, as we had to return to the lobby everyday to get a staff member to reconnect us to the wifi (it seemed a lot of guests were having the same issue). Overall, I would recommend Sunscape, especially for families. They seemed to have a lot of activities for kids. For the price we paid, I think it was a good option.

Resort is big, two pools plus a swim up bar and a beach but chairs were reserved with towels from guests that weren't even there. We didn't stand a chance. Beach was ok, not the clearest water and tons of debris washed up & beware of the salespeople all on the beach we definitely could not relax without them coming trying to sell us things. Food is a no go we had a reservation for the lobster dinner by the beach fr $29 each person and it was totally overpriced and mediocre took forever to come out and asked for peppers or hot sauce three times and it never came. Really wish I hadn't payed it but we were so hungry we ate. In the resort we waited 1 hour for there asian restaurant Guacho DO NOT GO IN THERE!!! We had two bite size apps sushi and dumpling It was served 3 piece of sushi and 2 piece of dumpling. I promise you We waited another hour for out entrees because the runner gave our food away to the next table. Food was tiny and too salty and cold. We ended Up eating at the buffet downstairs wnd surprisingly the food was pretty good. I recommend juat eating here for your entire trip. As for the rooms they were the worst part of out trip. Hating going in there the AC was so cold it made it unbearable to sleep. The discomfort was real!!! We called to have them lower it but they ended up shutting it off of course so we had to call back to put it on. My mother and I tried covering the vent to prevent the air from coming out so much but we had no luck. We had to call back for more blankets. Were traveling from Boston so we know cold but this was absurd. Rooms were NOT CLEANED DAILY. I literally had to call the font desk to get the rooms cleaned especially coming back from a long day all we ask for is clean sheets and new towels. The beds moved alot and beverages were not stocked daily. There was no safe in our room causing us to carry all our important documents. Door to balcony DID NOT LOCK!! It was so scary sleeping at night we covered our door with tables and chairs we called to have them fix it and it took forever. Anytime we needed some services it took forever The Worst WIFI ever. We both paid for wifi $20 for 3 days and $10 for one day. Tell me whyyyyy the wifi didn't reach our rooms! Sigh it had amazing connection in the lobby but there was FREE wifi there and was not worrh it. Upon arrival and in the message box on cheap Caribbean.com I asked or a special request of a slice of cake or champagne in the room for my moms birthday and we did not get it so I Aniston meant to the front desk and it didn't arrive until around 7PM. The majority of the staff was friendly and some more accommodating than others. The tours were a ton of fun and the host was great. The shows was fun! They have amazing dancers and great entertainment. Bars were ok the mixes they used were a little too sweet and sour for my taste buds so I had mama wana's (dominican drink) and beer.
