Nice but could use some improvement

The beach is beautiful. We enjoyed curaçao. Overall the resort is nice and the staff is pleasant and helpful. Just a few staff made it less than ideal. The towel guy was very rude and wouldn't issue towels at 4:50 because he claimed it was 5pm. The Dutch woman at the watersport checkout was super nasty. The conceriege had a long personal phone conversation while I waited to find out my shuttle time. The Italian resturant made us wait about 45 min to get cold entrees. They were understaffed to the point that you had to refill your own water glass. This could be a really great resort if all of the staff really cared about the customers. I guess when they aren't working for tips, it affects service. Otherwise, the bartenders were friendly and the staff in the sunclub checkin were very nice.

Rough Diamond in the Rough

We visited Sunscape in early February. We left feeling that the resort is trying to improve but it is slow moving progress. Many that work at the resort want improvements and know it is needed but others are just not on the same page. When we arrived, we asked for, paid for and received an upgrade. We are very happy we did. We received an amazing room in the tower. This is a new section. The other sections are very old. The Sun Club staff (Xavier) was amazing and made every attempt to address our concerns. The biggest disappointment was the food and beverage. We drank and drank and drank and never even received a buzz. We are not sure what quantity of alcohol was added to our drinks. The bars consistently ran out of fresh mint for mojitos. The food was adequate and not special. We expected more for the cost. There is major disconnect from what is offered versus what is being delivered. Sunscape has a great staff and wonderful location/beach but you feel management needs to provide better direction and training to the employees before their service begins. We do not like to provide a negative review but there is so much potential that leadership needs to realize improvements need made ASAP. When these improvements occur, Sunscape will be that diamond we all search for in the Caribbean. We look forward to visiting again after the improvements are made.

9 Days at All Inclusive Sunscape resort on Curacao

Check in was easy and there was no pressure to add extras. Our first surprise was the size of the room. It was larger than any we have had at other resorts in the area. Upon exploring the resort we noted more than adequate shady spots on the beach with lots of lounges available throughout the day. The resort had a nice man-made lagoon where we could swim and snorkel. The snorkeling was fair. No real coral but a lot of large rocks with a fair amount of fish amoung them. The lagoon made it easy to snorkel even when it was windy. One of the pools had a swim up bar with a large variety of drinks. This was true of the many bars throughout the resort. There are 5 specialty restaurants at the resort. The food was fine and staff conscientious and friendly. The service at the Italian Restaurant stood out from the rest. Many of the restaurants offered outdoor dining. There was interesting musicians who performed in the evenings near the pool area. The trumpeter and Sax musicians were especially enjoyable. The music did run late a couple of nights which made sleeping challenging. Note, the resort offers an upgrade area they call the Sunrise Club. This area was farthest from the music and might be worth having if one wants to get to sleep earlier than 10 PM. The resort offers a free shuttle into town twice per day for which you need to sign up for on the previous day. This worked well as they drop you and pick you up at the same point about 2 hours later. The resort also offers various other excursions. We took the all-day island tour which was enjoyable and educational. It gave us a good overview of the island and culture. Overall, this resort exceeded our expectations and I would recommend it to others without hesitation.

Pleasant stay

Ok people, I've done MANY all inclusives, so I can definitely compare. I'll share my experience as a couple in our 30's. Firstly, I had emailed the resort looking for upgrade pricing as I had booked through cheapcaribbean and didn't take the option then. Chantilly responded to me quickly and answered all of my questions (I had many) Now when I arrived I wasn't placed in a Sunclub upgraded room that we had discussed and was upset about it as I was celebrating my bday. Instead of causing a scene I spoke to the Sunclub staff and they worked tirelessly for 2 days to make a spectacular birthday room for me. I was upgraded to a fantastic room, sent a bottle of wine and balloons along with a delicious strawberry cheesecake. Chantilly personally apologized for the mix up in person and later with a hand written note. So I thank you again Chantilly , Milagros (Miracle) and Xavier the manager for your hospitality. Now on to the resort itself. People play the towel game. Lay a towel down at 7:30am and you see no one in a chair for hours if at all. If you just keep looking you will find a place to sit and relax. The water is calm, I saw many little fish by the rocky areas. (Bring water shoes!!!) You can also rent snorkel stuff for one hour each day from the dive shop. The specialty restaurants were very good. The Japanese one was very good and will cater to allergies (learned that when we went and one woman couldn't eat the sauce and another man couldn't have zucchini) The steakhouse was our favorite! We ate there twice. Now let me say yes it's slower, BUT ITS BECAUSE THEY HAVE ONE AMAZING CHEF ON DUTY COOKING FOR EVERYONE. Again, island time people , have a drink and talk to your family or something to stay entertained til food arrives. As others mentioned the buffet is small. I never did eat breakfast there so no comment. Lunch was good, they had a small variety of food but I found it to be edible each day I tried it. They also grill chicken, burgers by the pool around 12:30. The only suggestion I'd have is to install a soda machine so that guests can serve themselves drinks and let the staff continue clearing tables, grabbing silverware, alcoholic drinks for others. There are pigeons on the property along with small lizards and pretty yellow finches. They don't bother anyone. My room 2405 had a fantastic view, fridge, microwave , safe, robes and a sink to do dishes if I brought food back. I didn't encounter ANY rude staff members everyone was so friendly and very nice. If anything the guests were the rude ones a at times being impatient, but that its the world we live in. In closing, be open minded. You will have issues finding US PLUGS and will have to unplug a tv or look behind something to get your flat iron working or phone chargers plugged in. This isn't the U.S. Things are different. There are blowdryers in the bathrooms. Things run on island time, when someone smiles and says hello, SAY HELLO BACK. Make new friends, meet new people. The staff here work very hard they know many languages and are very proficient in speaking to everyone. I had a wonderful time here and was sad to leave. I'd definitely come back. Thank you again to my three superstars Chantilly/Milagros and Xavier for my special week. It truly made a difference. Ps! Take a cab $15 each way into town. Go to Rif Fort See the floating bridge ( so cool at night) Go to the tiny aquarium (you can walk there from Sunscape) Island shops close at 6pm daily except on Thursdays when they're open later. I'd also recommend Klein Island with Bounty Tours. Try El Guacho a steakhouse on the island. Very good food. I felt very safe on this island and had no issues feeling uneasy. I also found that American money was used everywhere. I even found an ATM that dispensed it. Stayed January 2017, traveled as a couple

What's to Love

Red carpet check-in at Sunscape Curacao while relishing welcome treats like chocolate chip cookies or frozen pops.

Delicious treatments like strawberry hydrating facials and chocolate mani/pedis. Yum.

The luscious body wraps (for those who don't want to be tempted with naughty, sugary treatments).

The casino (adults-only) with over 300 slot machines and games (if you get too sun burned & wanna cool off).

Cool, exercise-y stuff to check out like a rock climbing wall and Sumo wrestling.

You can learn Papiamentu - a language that is mix of Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, English and French.

60 pristine, world-renowned diving sites. Here, you can really make a splash. (Ba dum dum).

Getting to feed turtles, sharks, stingrays, plus a dolphin experience at Sea Aquarium Park.

What We'd Change

The shore is close to the hotel, so you won't take long walks through the sand to get to the ocean. But if taking long walks on the beach is your thing, you can always walk along the shoreline.

Why You Should Go

It's just 10 miles away from the airport. Woot!

The Sun Club, a family-centric program with everything from room upgrades to cartoons in the rooms.

The island is outside of the hurricane belt, so it's good to visit year-round.

It's two miles away from Willemstad, where you can enjoy world-class shopping along with historic sightseeing (if you're into that kind of thing).

Golf is available at the nearby Blue Bay Golf Course and there are two lit tennis courts.

The beach is close to the hotel, so no long trek to reach the ocean.

Eco-adventure tours are available. Bring your bug spray, just in case.
