Good value for basics

Sunscape is a great value all inclusive resort. ROOM: We have the deluxe tropical view room with a view of the bridge and a little pool. The two double beds got the job done. It didn't feel like sleeping on a cloud but it wasn't hard as a rock either. The room had a mini fridge stocked with beers, bottled waters, and soda. The bathroom has a shower with a half glass partition and a showered along with a handheld shower. For some reason we were only given shampoo and no other toiletries. We tried calling the front desk but our phone did not work. Housekeeping came at different times during our stay. They made sure to change the towels, make the bed, and empty the trash. DINING: The lobby has a daily schedule of restaurants that are open at certain times of the day. Make sure to plan accordingly because there is a gap between lunch and dinner times. Our favorite place to eat was Bon Apetite (a la carte french restaurant) and Windows (buffet style). Previous reviews spoke highly of Chopsticks hibachi but it was disappointing. The food was too salty for my taste and it was not a show compared to what I experienced at other restaurants. POOL/BEACH: Pools are well maintained and there's a bar by every single one. There are also entertainment activities throughout the day where you can earn coupons that can be used during an auction. Beach was not what I expected. There were huge sandbags and lots of seaweed. As you walked away from Sunscape, there were a lot of people trying to sell you things: excursions, hair extensions, braids, etc. TIP: Employees definitely expect a tip here. Bring lots of singles. It also helps if you can speak Spanish, even a little bit is good. The front desk is fluent in English and Spanish, but other staff is not.

Worst experience of my life.

I have recently traveled to this sunscape resort last week! It was one of the worst experiences of my life. It took me and my boyfriend 4 hours to check in; in that time we paid 500$ to upgrade to a "suite and top shelf liquor ", when we were brought to the room that was "ready" there were no sheets on the bed , no towels in the room and the room was still dirty! We complained to management and nothing was done! The next morning my boyfriend woke up and had bites all over his body! Come to find out they were bed bug bites! I went to management and flipped out , they could not do much for us ! After 2 hours of fighting with this woman i got refunded 100$ of the upgrade we paid and told us a quality team would go check the room , NOONE DID ! I suggest you don't waste your hard earned money on this terrible place!

Average at best

This is a perfectly average resort and we would have had a fine time expect for the food. The food was a MAJOR let down for my husband and I. Everything was just bland and very unappetizing. The best thing we ate was at the airport on the way home. The rooms are comfortable enough, but we didn't have a "do not disturb" sign and it was hard to sleep in because the housekeeping service came before 9am. When I would ask them to return in a few hours they would just come back in 30-45 minutes. The level of English among the staff is inconsistent and my Level of Spanish wasn't enough to fill in the gaps. Also the AC while working only cooled the room to about 75. Sleeping was definitely uncomfortable with that temperature. The beach is pleasant enough to sit in a chair and enjoy the view, but we didnt feel compelled to swim at the beach because it is very badly eroded and quite overgrown with seaweed. It was only pleantiful rum and coke that helped me look beyond the bulldozer constantly going by cleaning up the plants that had washed up during the night This was our first all inclusive experience. All in all I will do all inclusive again, but I would not return to or recommend the Sunscape. You get what you pay for and next time I will definitely be willing to pay more for those creature comforts.

What's to Love

Assuming rock star status while checking in on the red carpet and nibbling on treats.

Kids get a passport that will kick off a scavenger hunt (read: keeps them occupied so you can chill)

The Pirate Ship Excursions - grab your eye patches and hop aboard.

The teal waters that hug El Cortecito Beach, which will hypnotize you for hours.

Swimming with dolphins - Bucket List item you must do.

Scuba diving - there's a fee, but dive in. It's a memory-making kind of thing.

Snagging a boat over to the sublime Saona Island - an unforgettable day trip.

The indoor theater with spectacular shows. Order a drink and prepare to be "wowed."

What We'd Change

Sometimes it's hard to find complete peace at the pool, but this is a family-friendly resort so lots of young ones will be splashing around.

Why You Should Go

It's only 25 minutes from the airport - Instant Happiness is very close.

You can go reef exploring, whale watching or for less water, hang out in a floating spa.

Isla Catalina is near and has dramatically beautiful coral reefs for snorkeling & diving.

The resort can arrange an intimate dinner - just for two - in a variety of romantic spots.

Play a round at the Cocotal Golf Course designed by the famous Pepe Gancedo.
