Sugar Bay St Thomas

Cons: This place was in a state of disrepair. 2 of the 3 pools were empty and being repaired. Staff seemed over worked and not overly happy to be there. The pool bar did not have a working soda gun dispenser. Exit signs were hanging by the wires, Some of the elevators were inop. Service was slow at best. Beach could use some maintenance. Our room air conditioner would stop working if you changed the temp. Our room ceiling fan didn't work. We requested to get the fan fixed but it never happened. Equipment like miniature golf, snorkeling, tennis was only available from 10-4. Late night entertainment was none existent, and everything was closed by 11-12 each night. Pros: Breakfast buffet was consistently very good. Even though most employees were beat down there were a few that were upbeat, friendly, and helpful. It was not crowded which was very nice, no lines. It was in a good location close to Ferry to St Johns which is beautiful. They had just gone through a owner/management change and staff was cut, most employees were working from early morning to late at night. Over all I don't think I would not return and would not recommend this resort as it seems to be in a state of flux.

Missed the mark

I was truly looking forward to my adventure - warm weather, beaches, catamaran, and the resort... The trip itself, we chose to make it work for us. First issue - arrived at the Sugar Bay Resort 45 mins early, they would not let us fully check-in or put our bags in our rooms - 45 mins, really??? Second issue, our catamaran trip was cancelled, without having been informed - this group was recommended by the Resort. Thankfully, one of the few helpful service providers - concierge - helped us to get a new trip booked. This was the high-light of our trip - Thank you! Third issue, and probably the most irritating, the food! We paid for an all-inclusive, the only food that was served at dinner was off the menu, and not very good at all, Japanese and Italian, no other options, really? I didn't come to the islands to eat this type of food, and considering it was off the menu, not sure how it was all-inclusive? I don't recall even seeing 1 desert item and the fruit was minimal, same thing I can get in my own grocery. The pool grill was slow, limited condiments, and the server was quite rude - as if we were inconveniencing her by placing an order for a cheese burger. VERY, VERY disappointed in the food - and we will be asking for this part to be refunded... The beaches were great, even the people we met during our trip were pretty nice... but having to spend even more money just to eat a decent meal put a damper on the trip, which by the way, wasn't all that cheap.

Winter Getaway at Sugar Bay

We did the all inclusive- the food was really pathetic - not much of it -Italian or Japanese EVERY night that tasted yuk - lunch grill had very limited choices of which there was a long wait to cook it - no sides, fries, fruit?? You would think coming to the caribbean there would be lots of fruit to eat - not even there at breakfast. We arrived 1/2 hour early from traveling ALL day and the wouldn't give us our arm bands to eat. Once we did get them the lunch area shut down at 3:00pm and we had to wait until dinner- kinda dumb Won't be staying at Sugar Bay again unless we get some $ back for the inclusive part- we ended up eating outside of the resort because the food was so bad

Perfect way to start of the New Year

Love this resort. It's pricey but it is all inclusive and I stayed the week of the New Year. The grounds are beautiful. Loved the view from my room. Room was spacious. I had a king size bed but it wss so soft I felt like I sank in. The staff and service was phenomenal! They were super friendly and helpful! Just to name a few the restaurant hostess Maureen and server Karen, bartender Jermaine, and front desk employees Jewani and Seoni. Food was good but the last night I was there it was phenomenal. You had a small variety of local dishes but I enjoyed it all. The club played great music but was always empty. That didn't stop me from dancing. They played a mix of island music and pop. Great space, too bad it wasn't being used. Beach was beautiful even though you had to get past the stones first. I was able to kayak and paddle board. The only things I didn't care for, the windows in the dining hall need to be cleaned from the bird mess. Great stay. Plan on coming back next year!

What's to Love

St. Thomas is a dreamy destination - white sandy beaches, gorgeous ocean waters, sun days.

Begin your day in Zen at one of the yoga classes. Namaste.

Your modern room comes with a view - mountain, tropical or ocean - all swoon-worthy.

Got the kiddos? Great - the Kids Klub will take care of the activities. You can hit the Journey's Spa.

Service is top-notch - don't hesitate to ask for a thing. No, we mean really.

Activities for all - tennis, mini golf, beach and pool volleyball - a little friendly competition is good.

What We'd Change

To get to the beach, it's a bit of a hike, but luckily, the resort's shuttle will take you to and from the beach all day long.

Why You Should Go

When you hit paradise, you've got a zippy 40 minutes to the resort. Bubbly is on deck.

Duty-free shopping dates back to 1724 - lots of galleries, boutiques and unique shops.

Spend a day at Lindquist beach - not overcrowded, crystal clear water, but bring towels & snacks.

Mahogany Run Golf Course is an 18-hole stunner that runs along the sweet Caribbean.

The resort has a shuttle that will take you to and from the beach. Hop on.

Pack some water shoes for the beach - always better to be covered than step on a rock.
