Spring break specials to Mexico and Caribbean that are NOT for students
Los Angeles Times Daily Travel & Deal Blog - February 23, 2010 - You might call this the anti-spring break. Fun, sun and beaches galore - yes. College kids getting crazy - no. Or at least "Caribbean Jim" has tried his best to steer you clear of these shenanigans and point you to his favorite destinations and resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico where you can relax with friends and family.
The 99-hour "Not Your Usual Spring Break" sale ends Friday at 9 p.m. PST. The first 99 reservations get an extra discount when they use the promo codes on CheapCaribbean.com. So grab your friend or loved one and pick out a beach getaway, Flight + hotel vacation packages to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Riviera Maya, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Aruba and more start at $399 per person, pretax.
Deal:99-hour sales are a regular thing on CheapCaribbean, and e-mail subscribers get the first look at what's on offer. The cheapest package on the page that I found was for a four-night vacation to Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa, A Wyndham Grand Resort, Puerto Rico, starting at $399 per person (if you can take advantage of the $100 instant savings with the promo code).
Tested: I found a four-night, all-inclusive flight + hotel package to Dreams Villamagna Nuevo Vallarta (pictured) in Mexico's Riviera Nayarit, Including round-trip airfare from Los Angeles (LAX), that cost $730 per person, pre-tax and before airport transfers. This room was a junior suite with a tropical view. I upgraded to include airport transfers ($68) and an ocean view ($161), and the total package price after taxes (and including the $100 off promo code) came to $1,935 for two people. This package also comes with $200 in resort credit, partitioned out for specific activities or purchases that the website spells out for you.
Tip: I love that CheapCaribbean tells you how many bookings are left for the promo code with each special offer. There's no way that you can miss a deal on this sale - there's even a clock that ticks away the time left to nab an offer. The page also offers quotes from Caribbean Jim at the top of each package highlighting a feature from each resort.
