Rude service! Expect eye rolling

After staying in many all-inclusives, this has to be, by far, the worst! Our room wasn't ready until 5:30 on the day we arrived. They said there was someone in it and wasn't cleaned when we got there. Unless you plan on eating at the buffet, you better make your "reservations" for all your nights the day you get there. We waited a few days because we wanted to leave it open for possible excursions around the island and when we went to book, they didn't have anything for the next 3 nights. I like to tip good service. It was difficult to find anyone worthy of a tip. 98% of the workers there were rude. Probably because they never get tips, but there is a good reason why people wouldn't want to give them a few dollars after they rolled their eyes at you when asked for 2 different types of drinks at the bar. I have no idea who they go through for the hiring process, but a quality they must look for is being impolite.I know the people of St. Martin, not working at this resort, are lovely, kind people. We know because we have been to St. Martin before and had to eat at several other outside restaurants, not associated with the resort, during this last stay. Everyone was very accomodating and working toward good customer satisfaction. Therefore, got a good tip on top of it. The room we stayed in was for 4 people, staying in 2 double beds. They only had 4 drawers, so we each got one. Other than that, we lived out of our luggage for the week. Our room also faced the casino and the club below. We were on the 10th floor, but we were still kept up each night from the bass in the club. We asked to move after the first night, but in Sonesta Maho fashion, they basically told us to suck it up because they didn't have other rooms. We won't be staying here again. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place! Rent a house on this beautiful island. It's cheaper and you won't be made to feel like a jerk when asking for service.

Bad Custormer Service

The Sonesta Maho Beach Resort is not very customer service oriented at all. In fact most people that worked there were very rude and condescending. I have never stayed at a resort where the staff makes you feel as if you are bothering them, well this resort staff makes you feel this way. The room was nice but do not stay on the casino side because there is a night club on that side and they play VERY loud music until 2:30 in the morning every night! It was so loud we could hear every song that was playing and none of us could sleep! Part of the reason we chose an all inclusive resort was because we could eat there and didn't have to spend extra money on food. Well we had to eat out several nights we stayed there because we could not get a reservation at the "all inclusive" restaurants. This ended up costing us approximately $400 that we were not intending on spending. Unless you make reservations when you check in forget being able to get one. The buffet is always available but who wants to eat that every day for lunch and every night for dinner! The other restaurants have at the most 10-15 tables and that does not accommodate the amount of guests staying at the resort. On a positive note the beach and ocean are beautiful. When we do go back to St Martin we will be staying at another resort.

Ok vacation

Thw island is beautiful, the resort is great however the service is not up to standards. There is long line to get seated for meals and even longer wait for the waiter to acknowledge your presence. We waited 45 minutes at the palm grill for a waiter take our order. Some mornings we did not get coffee. The wait time for drinks especially at the pool bar is super long and the waiters are not very pleasant. The food selection is very limited compared to other all inclusive.

Island time resort

If you are looking for a luxurious, hassle free place to stay with an eye for detail, the Sonesta is not for you. However, if you are alright being in a decent hotel with plenty of food and drink and most importantly in an amazing location, the value here is superb. Check in for us (me, my wife and 10 yr old) was a breeze, we arrived a little early and luckily were able to get a room straight away. For most, this was not the case. About an hour after we checked in the lobby was packed and some patrons waited well into the evening to get a room, some as long as 6 hours! A lot of disorganization in general, I cannot imagine what it would be like in peak season. Our room was 80 degrees as the a/c was broken but was promptly fixed after we reported it. The room was mostly clean, definite signs of previous guest left in bathroom. Food at all resort restaurants was very Americanized and bland, to the point we paid to eat off of the resort a couple times for true island food Service was typical of most Caribbean all-inclusives, you have some people that don't want to be bothered by guests and some that really go out of their way to attend to your vacation needs. Thank you to those that do. The real value of this resort is the location. Right on the world famous Maho Beach and watching the planes come in was a real treat,; it appeared you could reach up and touch the planes as they landed! Very short walk to Mullet Beach and a bit longer walk/swim to Cupecoy Beach. Short taxi ride to Simpson Bay and all of it's activities Explore the area, very nice sea caverns between Mullet Beach and the resort (reached via Mullet Beach) where the remains of an old shopping center- lost to hurricanes past- can be found. Snorkel everywhere mentioned above, best spot I've been since The Great Barrier Reef is across Maho Beach, near where the planes land and beside Algiers Bar, for lots of sea life (flora, eels, fish, etc). Have fun!
