First time at Old San Juan

Overall good experience. I went during 4th of July weekend 2016. The fist night we barely could sleep because people were in the hallway singing and dancing. I'm positive anywhere you travel during this time would be a similar situation. On July 5th it calmed downed. The bed is great. You'll fall asleep like a baby, also very clean. I didn't realize Old San Juan had a lot of homeless people in the streets, so just be prepare to have many people ask for money once you leave the hotel. Outside the hotel, you're in the middle of everything. Great dining, shopping, and scenery. You can walk to el morro. The closest beaches are condado, and isle verde - about 20 minutes away for both. I would recommend this hotel, if you're staying for a short amount of time, and want to get as much done as you can. Make sure when you check in you ask about excursions. They have tons of activities 45 minutes away.

Great location to explore Old San Juan

We had booked a June beach escape on Black Friday. It was well priced but since it was only 3 nights we decided we'd rather be in town. When we called to change the reservation in April the Sheraton Old San Juan was our only option. We took it but it ended up being a pricey 4 day trip - about $750/person from St. Louis. That being said, we could not have been happier with our decision. The hotel was located on the bay where we had a beautiful view. Luckily there were no cruise ships in port though. Our room was clean with a king bed and windows but no balcony. The room was a bit tired - I think the whole place could use a makeover but it didn't affect our experience. We were on the top (9th) floor which is where the pool is. We were a little concerned about noise but ended using the pool/hot tub more than normal because it was so close to our room. The hotel supplies beach towels but they were often not available. A quick call to housekeeping would replenish the supply in short order. The pool is small but it was friendly- we met a lot of people there. It is a very short walk to the restaurant/shopping district where everything is happening. There are 2 free trolleys that run all day and late into the evening. The green covered trolley runs up and down the interior of Old San Juan. The white open trolleys go to the historical sites- mostly around the exterior/coastal area around the city. There are stops everywhere. I would return to this hotel- especially if we cruise out of Puerto Rico. Oh, and take a walk to Calle San Francisco and visit Mallorca - a wonderful local place for a great breakfast. It's across from the church courtyard.

The Sheraton is a great hotel in a central location. Everything is at a walking distance. We used the valet parking for convenience because we traveled with two infants. The service was great. Everyone was courteous at the hotel. The rooms were ok, not anything too fancy.

Good City Option

This hotel is a good choice if you want to be close to the city. The restaurants and shops are easy walking distance as is the pier where you catch the ferry to the Bacardi tour. While the hotel staff are friendly and helpful, the property itself could use a facelift (rooms are VERY basic and we paid for an upgraded harbor view) and the hotel restaurant is pretty bad. The food is not very tasty and the service is slow, even wit only one or two other customers in the dining room.

We really wish the property were located on the beach. Fortunately, there's easy access to the waterfront, and top beaches are just a short cab ride away.
