Very good, but not great

The service of the staff was excellent. Very clean and comfortable rooms and common areas. I did feel I was being sold too many additional services, spa packages, dinners, etc. There was only 1 buffet with the same food in it every day. For as nice a resort as this was, I was a bit disappointed in not only the buffet, but the food in general. Overall, a great trip though.

1st all-inclusive trip ever

This was our 1st ever all-inclusive trip, as well as our 1st time to Mexico. We chose to do the Deal of Fortune, as we thought each of the hotel option sounded good. We were very excited to learn that we'd be staying at The Vine! TIPS / ADVICE FOR YOUR 1ST ALL-INCLUSIVE (@ The Vine): 1. Meet with the excursion reps immediately, the day you arrive. On any given day, there will probably be a line, so you want to meet with them and figure out what you want to do while you're there. Knock it out early, and hear your options, so you can maximize the rest of your vacay. 2. Do NOT order room service. See below. 3. Tip your servers- they work hard. $1-2 here and there is appreciated! 4. Go to Coco Bongo - great experience! Get VIP - see below. 5. If you like a good, strong drink, you need to order a double here. 6. If you're looking for an upbeat, energetic hotel vibe, stay elsewhere. This is a very relaxed, low key, calm vibe. Had we not done the Chichen Itze excursion, I would have been bored. THE GOOD: The airport to hotel transfer was smooth, easy, and well planned. The Amstar associates were very friendly and helpful! Upon arrival to the hotel, we were greeted, checked-in, and then met with Susanna. She walked us through some basics regarding the spa, restaurants, etc. Helpful:) Our room was good! We had a good ocean view, as well as a view of the neighboring hotel's pools, haha! We got to see a bit of their pool entertainment as well, so that was nice. The room was clean, well organized, and there was plenty of space for both of us, our belongings, etc. The pools were great! There were 3 pools open to us (1 additional on the 12th floor, if you choose to have a Preferred Room), and each pool was a little different. Fun pool (groups having fun, chatting, poolside performances), a slightly quieter pool with lounge chairs alongside in a runway of water (pretty cool!), and then a 3rd pool with a hot tub next to it. The beach is where we spent most of our sun time, as we do not live in an area with a beach. There were always plenty of chairs, towels, and umbrellas, and the beach servers were pretty attentive and friendly. We made friends easily, and my boyfriend had a blast playing beach soccer and beach volleyball. The breakfast buffet, Market Cafe, was fantastic! So many options, great service, and tons of seating. The restaurant options were also strong! My favorite was Olio, the Mediterranean option, and we enjoyed everything we ordered here. The steakhouse and the Asian restaurants were also tasty! We did not make it to the Italian spot. Our Amstar excursion reps were very knowledgeable. We chose to do the Chichen Itza excursion (7:30am-8:15pm), and absolutely loved it!! Our tour guide was amazing, and made the day a blast!! We also chose to go to Coco Bongo that same night, and it was so cool! The performances were fantastic, and we had a server tending to us all night long. RECOMMENDATION: Purchase the VIP tickets. This club is not as big as we thought, and they reallllllly pack in the people. If you want to be comfortable (read: not getting elbowed, not getting pushed, not getting stepped on), then you really want to spend the extra money to get a table, and get there early! THE DISAPPOINTMENTS: The food quality - lunch and room service, in particular. There are 2-3 lunch options, and unfortunately, we did not make it inside to the lunch buffet. I have a feeling it was good though, if it's anything like the breakfast! Instead, on our first day, we immediately at outside at the Sea Salt. We each ordered a separate type of ceviche, and were unimpressed with each one. My fish tacos tasted fine, but were nothing special (fried). My boyfriend ordered a marlin dish, and it was tiny...which is fine because you can order more, but at this point we were already unimpressed and didn't really want anything else. There is also a burger/hot dog bar outside, but we didn't come to an all-inclusive in Mexico to eat gameday foods, so we never ate there. The next day, we ordered lunch while sitting poolside. The pool servers have a separate food menu than Sea Salt and the grill, so we thought it was worth a try. Wrong. We ordered chips/salsa and it was just so-so. In addition we ordered shrimp quesadillas, and upon arrival, immediately noted that it was literally 2-3 small shrimp with cheese between the tortillas. Nothing else. Took about 2 bites, and then you just had tortilla left in your hand. Room service - absolutely unacceptable if you're a 5 star restaurant. We ordered room service immediately upon arriving back from our Chichen Itza excursion, as we got back later than expected, and still needed to shower and get to Coco Bongo. We ordered as soon as we walked into our room, and were told that it would take 45-50 minutes, which was cutting it close, but we had to eat. When our BLTA and Turkey Club finally arrived, there were so many things not okay: BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) - there was no tomato or avocado, and the fries were semi-warm and wilted. Turkey Club (turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo...at least, right?!) - I kid you not, it was white bread with turkey and mayo, along with the same fries as described above. We couldn't believe our eyes. I honestly do not know who could have any pride in delivering that mess to someone's room in a supposed 5 star restaurant. I was embarrassed for them. Drinks- overall the drinks were not very strong. I eventually started ordering double vodka, double rum in my pina coladas, etc. Then things were good!

Very relaxing

Resort is very modern and chic. Excellent guest service and very clean! I have food allergies and I have to say that our waiters were excellent in assisting me with food options and suggestions. Dragon was the best restaurant in our opinion. Pools are nice which was good because sometimes you could not swim in the ocean due to the tides. Always something to do. I would definitely stay at this resort or another one of their brands in the future.

What's to Love

Being greeted with cold towels and champagne - a refreshing way to remove that travel gunk and get vacay-ing.

The luxurious, chic architecture (sleek, white, boxy) that awakens your inner rock star.

Divine suites (think Architectural Digest) with private balconies or terraces boasting stunning vistas of teal surf.

Some rooms have double rain shower heads. (You'll feel like royalty).

Stress-busting, melt-into-the-sand spa that offers side-by-side couples massages on the beach.

The Seaweed Wrap (all that messy stuff that washes up on the beach is good for something).

Private concierges and butlers are available - you can really milk this whole royalty thing if you want.

Secrets box for private room service delivery - you don't ever have to see a human if you don't want to.

It's Foodie Friendly: there are gluten-free items on the menu, wine and tequila tastings, and more.

If you upgrade to the Preferred Club, there's a plethora of Mediterranean delicacies to be had at Olio, a hot grub spot.

What We'd Change

Bars on the property close at 1am or earlier--a challenge for dedicated night owls. If you're hankering for some fun until the sun's up, legendary Cancun nightlife is only a short cab ride away.

Why You Should Go

Only 15 minutes away from the airport - you'll be there before you blink any eye to start the margaritas and shots.

Swimming with the darling dolphins is near at Isla Mujeres.

Cabs to downtown Cancun for your evening festivities are pricey - there are buses available for just a buck.

Get up early to reserve the coveted, dreamy cabanas - they go quickly.

Upgrade to Preferred Club, get better rooms, a private pool, and exquisite desserts/fine liquors and more.

For adventure buffs (or those with crippling sunburns), Mayan Ruins are not far away.

13 Golf Courses (your lucky 13) are near for your latent Tiger Woods.

Food at the airport is high (seems they're quite proud of their average fare), so pack your own superior snacks.

There's deep-sea fishing, horseback riding & Euro-bungee (you're a human slingshot, but you don't go flying off into space).

Cigar rolling (don't tire yourself out!), dance lessons and much more - the list goes on and on.
