AMAZING

Where to begin…. We had such an amazing time! (the first week of April) First we did decide to upgrade, and I couldn’t be happier that we did. Esparza was our butler and he was spectacular. Esparza, along with Alain, and Angel, took care of our every need and want. The upgrade included a nicer room on a higher floor, premium liquor in our room and access to the private pool and restaurant, Olio. Our butler also made sure we had a table at which ever restaurant we desired each evening, which is great since they technically don’t take reservations. We also came home one night to a bath drawn, with rose petals and champagne and chocolates waiting for us, it was so unexpected and made us feel so special! The private pool was lovely, but it was windy while we were there, so we didn’t take as much advantage of it as we could have. However all the other pools and the beach were fantastic. At first i was worried there was no swim-up bar, but the service pool side was on point, and we were able to get whatever we wanted quickly. The beach was well maintained, and they raked up the seaweed every morning. The ocean was rough, but that has nothing to do with the hotel, just a stormy week… The wind was at times a little crazy, but it kept the bugs away all week. There were a handful of weddings that would occupy some of the public spaces, but it never interrupted service to the lower left pool, which was always the warmest pool, and where we ended our day each afternoon. The food was great, and we ate in almost every restaurant. The steakhouse was my husbands favorite. I loved both Dragons and the Italian restaurants. The freshly made focaccia at the Italian restaurant was so good. And the sushi in Dragons was also good. The buffet for breakfast and lunch had such huge array of options, and nothing felt old, like it had been sitting out. Everything felt fresh and tasted wonderful. We also had lunch once at the outdoor restaurant, they had fantastic fish tacos, and again the service was outstanding. We both had massages at the spa. My masseuse was Janet, and my husbands was Kenia. Both ladies were wonderful. The spa itself was so clean, and we really enjoyed using the plunge pools and the steam rooms. One of the biggest things for me was how amazingly CLEAN everything was. As a bit of a germaphobe this was top on my list of importance, and I am happy to say that it was so so clean. As far as up-selling, that so many people complained about in previous reviews, we did NOT experience this problem. In the spa they ask if you would like to upgrade to some fancy oils, but this practice is normal in all spas… and once we were asked if we would like to purchase premium wines, but that was it. There were no speeches on time shares or harassment at all. In fact the staff as a whole was amazing. Everyone was so kind and thoughtful. I am already researching the family friendly Dreams, to take my kids with us next year!

Great food at Blue Water Grill and the Italian restaurant, about average everywhere else. Drinks were great, service was great. Room should have been darker at night, but was otherwise spectacular. Sommelier Rudy did a wine pairing class just for us, and he was funny, kind, and generous, and we learned a lot. I would love to go back!

Nice and friendly but not for me

If you smoke this is not the Hotel for you ... beach was a nice, service was nice, room was nice but the nighttime entertainment was not up to par... they had a magician all three nights and he was not entertaining, we have traveled a lot been to many resorts and this was probably the worst as far as entertainment so if you want laid-back quiet not much going on and good food you will enjoy this hotel. We will not be back.

What's to Love

Being greeted with cold towels and champagne - a refreshing way to remove that travel gunk and get vacay-ing.

The luxurious, chic architecture (sleek, white, boxy) that awakens your inner rock star.

Divine suites (think Architectural Digest) with private balconies or terraces boasting stunning vistas of teal surf.

Some rooms have double rain shower heads. (You'll feel like royalty).

Stress-busting, melt-into-the-sand spa that offers side-by-side couples massages on the beach.

The Seaweed Wrap (all that messy stuff that washes up on the beach is good for something).

Private concierges and butlers are available - you can really milk this whole royalty thing if you want.

Secrets box for private room service delivery - you don't ever have to see a human if you don't want to.

It's Foodie Friendly: there are gluten-free items on the menu, wine (3,000 + labels) and tequila tastings, and more.

If you upgrade to the Preferred Club, there's a plethora of Mediterranean delicacies to be had at Olio, a hot grub spot.

What We'd Change

Bars on the property close at 1am or earlier--a challenge for dedicated night owls. If you're hankering for some fun until the sun's up, legendary Cancun nightlife is only a short cab ride away.

Why You Should Go

Only 15 minutes away from the airport - you'll be there before you blink any eye to start the margaritas and shots.

Swimming with the darling dolphins is near at Isla Mujeres.

Cabs to downtown Cancun for your evening festivities are pricey - there are buses available for just a buck.

Get up early to reserve the coveted, dreamy cabanas - they go quickly.

Upgrade to Preferred Club, get better rooms, a private pool, and exquisite desserts/fine liquors and more.

For adventure buffs (or those with crippling sunburns), Mayan Ruins are not far away.

13 Golf Courses (your lucky 13) are near for your latent Tiger Woods.

Food at the airport is high (seems they're quite proud of their average fare), so pack your own superior snacks.

There's deep-sea fishing, horseback riding & Euro-bungee (you're a human slingshot, but you don't go flying off into space).

Cigar rolling (don't tire yourself out!), dance lessons and much more - the list goes on and on.
