Christmas at Secrets Papagayo

We'd never been to an adult-only resort, but after our trip to Secrets, now it's our vacation style of choice. Pool and restaurant service were professional and friendly. Bar waiters circulate around the pool and beach areas and are always accommodating. The guests were enjoyable. The entertainment staff have activities planned throughout the day, We enjoyed the cooking demonstration, water aerobic lessons and sunset kayak tour. Other activities are also available and some are capacity limited, so be sure to inquire at the Activity desk which is adjacent to the main pool. The resort is spread out enough that it seemed uncrowded at the beach and pool. The room was fabulous, total luxury. Room service is served discreetly to a box from the outside and can be retrieved from inside the room. There were lovely Christmas decorations and a special dinner served beachside on Christmas Eve.

Would not go back or recommend to a friend

We have been to several all inclusive resorts, mostly Sandals or RIU. This was our first time (and last) to Secrets. The service, food quality and overall experience was not very good. Everywhere you went (restaurants, etc) staff was trying to sell the non included alcohol, spa packages or into their vacation club. At the Italian restaurant, the waiter's attitude changed when we would not buy the expensive wine. We became almost invisible to him. The food was marginal and very salty/overseasoned most of the time. The 24 hour room service option was nice. The poolside service was slim to non existent. The drinks were very mild and did not include much alcohol unless a "tip" was given to the bartender. The staff continually said "my pleasure" but their actions and tone of voice made us feel as if it were a standard reply, not a true feeling. We really enjoy Costa Rica. However, our next trip will be back to RIU or another all inclusive.

Amazing & perfect vacation at Secrets Papagayo

This resort is beyond beautiful, the service is excellent, the staff is friendly and goes above & beyond to take care of you. Me and my boyfriend stayed here in October for an anniversary & had such an amazing time we will DEFINITELY go back. The resort offers so many activities-kayaking, snorkeling, cocktail classes, bike tours, sunset hikes, live music, and so many more. The staff stands out to us as one of the highlights as everyone was so nice, helpful, and really made us feel taken care of. Minor, Arturo, Henry, Yelsong, Ligia (at the restaurant Portofino) specifically made our trip one to remember! We had an even amount of time relaxing at the resort (in the beach or the swim up bar pool) and going on excursions that you pay for and can do either through the resort or through different companies that walk the beach promoting them. Of course the resort recommends to go through them (swiss travel has an office there) so it's up to you what you decide. We did the mega combo tour-horse back riding, zip lining, Costa Rican lunch, and a trip to the hot springs. It was an all day event and really great. We also did an ATV 2/3 hour excursion- went into the jungle and rode around it was so much fun! The resort is clean, upbeat, beautiful, the food was good (there are two restaurants that men need to wear pants at) and the drinks were great. I definitely recommend brining strong bug spray as we used some the whole trip and still got bit several times. Our room was an ocean view (we paid for the preferred member upgrade which we thought was definitely worth it) and our room was beautiful! We had some bugs in the room but its the jungle so you can't really fault the resort. ighly recommend this resort & to take advantage of the activities they offer!

This place was awesome!

To be honest, this is an older resort so don't expect flashy, shiny, State of the Art 'glitz' - but that is overrated anyway! This place was awesome! The food was outrageously delicious - no really - everything we ate was "shut-the-front-door delicious", and the rooms (which are updated) and property were clean and well kept. Can't say enough about the service either. All of the staff - from janitors to management were awesome and the ones that went way above and beyond for us were Rebecca at the Aqua, Kenneth at the Seaside Grill, and Jarvi by the pool (idk, this guy was always sweeping and mopping the pool area and was always happy, pleasant, and engaging - made us feel like we were at our neighbors pool!)
