Secrets Maroma

Really nice resort. Highlights: Food was the best of any all inclusive I've ever visited. French restaurant is really good. Hibachi fills up quickly so getting a reservation with your concierge upon arrival is recommended. Honestly the Barefoot Grill- shrimp/beef burritos are insane. Service is really solid around the pool. Drinks and liquor selection solid if not well above average (grey goose, herra durra/don Julio, etc.) Beach is first rate. The seaweed- which seems to be a pretty consistent complaint- isn't bad at all and is cleaned daily. Main pool area is really nice and so long as you anchor down by 11/11:30 am you can easily get a couple chairs in the main area. We had a swimout room and I'd recommend getting one if you're going as a couple or with a small group in the same building/floor so you can hangout and get away from the big pool. We used the swimout every afternoon. Rooms are okay. They could use an update, but are by no means poor. We've had the benefit of staying in some nice newer resort and might be a little spoiled. They are renovating and I'm guessing in a years time it's going to be 5 stars all the way. Oh, the layout of the resort is excellent. Never too far to walk versus other resorts we've stayed. Employees- save timeshare reps- are first rate. We did preferred club at Secrets the Vines a couple years ago and did not at Maroma. I regret that decision. I think it's worth the extra 80 bucks per person per day to just go all out. Con: It's our 5th time to Cancun/Riviera Maya area and it's the first where we were instantly ushered from check in directly to a timeshare representative. The timeshare rep from Secrets blasted that we booked through a travel company versus booking direct and said that the reason we got "stuck" in such a bad location Building 24 (note- didn't think the location was bad AT ALL) was due to how we booked. If first impressions are meaningful than this was an absolutely horrible way to kick off a vacation. We didn't sign up for a 90 minute presentation- which would net 200 bucks in resort credits- because... it's vacation. I talked to a dude who did walk the hot coals of closers and he said it was PAINFUL. He and his wife- on their 41st wedding anniversary- were closed by four different sales reps. He said the last guy (number 4/king closer) was so derogatory that he almost punched him. I actually enjoy going through stuff like that because I'm in sales and a masochist but I didn't want to waste an hour an half for 200 bucks. Not worth it. Summation: Good, close to great resort. Upon renovation and slight adjustment to the nuclear a** kicking via timeshare reps and they'll have one of the best all inclusives on earth.

Seen one Secrets, you've seen them all...

Third time we have stayed at a Secrets Resort. Though the beach by far was the highlight of the property, I see no reason to pay more to stay at Moroma over the sister resort Silver Sands which is a much better value for the same exact product. One thing about AM Resorts, it pays to be a preferred guest. Better room locations, dinner reservations, and check in/out privileges make your stay more enjoyable. The food is good but not great and slow. It takes 2+ hours to eat a meal in a restaurant there. You want great food, you gotta leave the property and go into town. We went into Playa and was amazed by the difference in quality.

Beach is amazing! Breakfast views

Terrific vacation!

My wife and I had a wonderful time and can't wait to return! The staff was absolutely top notch, and we were thrilled with the trip. The only slight thing that was a bit different is the view from the room, which is not like the one in the picture. We actually paid to upgrade when we got there, because it really wasn't a great view. Other than that, we were very happy with the entire trip!

What's to Love

Being spoiled by the sparkling champagne and cool towel upon arrival.

Chic, breathtaking interiors in warm earth tones with stunning vistas of the turquoise sea.

Powdery, velvety sand that never gets hot.

The cushy spa that boasts a spa garden, hydrotherapy circuit and outdoor massage cabins. Sa-weet.

Free round of golf at the Grand Coral Riviera Maya that was designed by PGA champion Nick Price.

Dining under a private palapa at Oceana. Rock star existence, it is.

The lit tennis courts - who doesn't love this?

What We'd Change

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun does enforce a dress code for some of their more upscale restaurants, but it gives you an excuse to shop.

Why You Should Go

The resort is located 20 miles south of the airport so you are heartbeats away from your first delicious vacay cocktail.

The French restaurant, Bordeaux, has a wine cellar. Not too shabby.

Zip lines, swim with dolphins and eco-adventures are near - there might be a fee, but go for it. You only live once.

Chichen Itza and Coba Ruins are near - both are historical and beguiling.

Water sports out the wazoo: sea kayaking, catamaran, water skiing, snorkeling and windsurfing.

When you've had enough sun, you can check out archery, dance lessons, and billiards.
