Review!

The property and pools were very good. Beach was good and service on the beach was good. Seaweed was a big issue. It smelled and made it difficult to go in the sea. They had workers trying to clean it up everyday, but they will never catch up and get rid of it. Restaurants were good, but the policy of having to wear long trousers in 3 of them is rediculous. They need to change this policy. You can go into these restaurants in scruffy looking jeans, but nice expensive golf shorts are not allowed inside the 3 restaurants. If you had shorts you had to sit outside! It's humid and 85 degrees there. Service was spotty, depending on where you went. When you arrive and check in you are assigned a butler, as they call them. Our experience was not good. There were 3 butlers talk to us, and all they did was talk about themselves and promised that anything we needed they would get. turned out, that the butler that we were assigned, we never saw him after that first meeting. A training butler tried to help us and did his best. The butler service was an overpromise and did not deliver. They don't need butlers, just beef up room service and a desk area to answer questions and arrange service. Many of the staff in general did not speak good English, which made it tough to get what you wanted. We often has the wrong drink or food brought to us. Worth a visit, but would not go back!

Lovely resort--with some issues

We stayed a week at this resort. We are three women. It's truly beautiful and the room was comfortable. The resort is large and caters to a younger crowd, particularly heterosexual couples. At times, we felt as though we were in a sports bar because the activity coordinators kept insisting that the guests wanted to be competitive. I go on vacation so as not to be competitive. There should be a quiet area for those who wish to relax and enjoy the view. At one of the restaurants, we could not hear ourselves over the roar. Our check in was not easy as we were not given the room we asked for and had to wait two days. Finally, we were moved, thus losing a day of vacation while waiting. While the beach is gorgeous, it's not a great place to swim. The pools were wonderful. I encourage you not to take a tour offered by the hotel. We went to Saona island and got sick. This tour is over priced and gross misrepresentations of what you will experience. Other guests complained about the tours. Overall, the restaurants were great.

Getting there

The resort was beautiful. Our biggest issues were the fact that even though the staff was courteous they could not understand all that we asked and requested. He language barrier was very frustrating. The food was good, not great. Some items were not what the menu described. The breakfast buffet was the best food choice overall. Another disappointing thing was to see all the weeds growing among the beautifully landscaped grounds. The resort definitely has potential for being a 4/5 star resort with more time and training.
