Good Time
Had a great time but didn't make dinner reservations soon enough and was not able to get into several restaurants. Remember to make those before you get there.
The transport from the airport to the resort was late and we had to wait about an hour to be picked up at the airport. Our friends who were on the same flight but booked with another company got to the resort 3 hours before us.

We really enjoyed our stay
Are only "bad" comments were the quality of vodka and we had a few room problems (leak in air conditioner, phone not working, and toilet running). But everything was fixed quickly. Overall, the service was wonderful. Would recommend the Hacienda suites on the ground floor. You walk out to a private pool.
Sandos Playacar's resort was overall a good resort. We traveled at the end of February 2012. I would recommend this resort to people who like to vacation with their childern (typically when we go to Mexico we enjoy this time without our childern). It is very family friendly.
Food- Buffets are buffets, but they did offer a variety. They did show cooking at every meal so you could have fresh food made right in front of you. The chicken and fish were very good. Desserts however were not as sweet as we are use to. We ate at all the a la carte restaurants except for the Brazilian and the French. Our favorite was the Meditteranean.
Beach- Beach area was nice. They could have done a little better job clearing the seaweed off the high tide area in the morning, but what was left did not stink at all. The beach area was big enough for everyone except if you want a place in the shade make sure you put your towels out early in the morning.
Activities/Shows- The entertainment team puts in long hours and does a good job trying to keep everyone entertained. The shows were amateur, but were nice to go and see. There was always something going on if you like to get involved.
Rooms- The rooms were just as seen in their photos. We had a beautiful view of both the adults only pool and the ocean. One of the best views I have had from a room so far. The showers were very spacious.
THE RESORT IS LARGE, SPRAWLS ALL OVER THE PLACE; FOOD IS GOOD WHEN YOU CAN GET TO IT; I HAVE NEVER BEFORE SEEN A REQUIRMENT FOR RESERVATIONS AT A BUFFET;THE RESERVATION PROCESS IS CONFUSING, EVEN TO THE RESORT STAFF; WE ARRIVED IN THE AFTERNOON , MUCH TO OUR SURPRISE RESERVATIONS HAVE TO BE MADE BEFORE NOON; ROOM SERVICE IS AVAILABLE( VERY SLOW AND NOT VERY GOOD ); THE BEACH IS WOUNDERFUL AS WELL AS ARE THE POOLS ; THE SERVICE STAFF DO AN EXCELLANT JOB HOWEVER DUE TO CONFUSION AND DIS- REGARD THE MANAGEMENT WILL HAVE ONE STANDING IN LINES WAITING AND WAITING ONLY TO BE SENT TO ANOTHER LINE AND SOMETIMES BACK AGAIN TO THE FIRST LINE; THE RESORT HAS A MEETING POINT BUT YOU ARE SENT ON A TRIP UP THE HILL TO RESERVE DINING;(SOMETIMES) NOT FOR THOSE WHO WOULD FIND WALKING DIFFICULT.THEY WERE UNDER STAFFED AT ALL POSITIONS.
HOWEVER THEY DO HAVE A GOOD DIVE SHOP : VERY GOOD DIVE STAFF AND EQUIPMENT

Can someone please tell me ASAP: At the Sandos Playacar Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen, are the RIVIERA JR. SUITES in the NEWER building and is this building the FARTHEST from everything? Also, where are the HACIENDA JR. SUITES? Does anyone know?
I have a trip scheduled to the Sandos Playacar on July 17, 2011 just around the corner and I sure would love to know this before I leave.

The Riviera Junior Suites and Hacienda Junior Suites are located throughout the resort in 12 two-story buildings, with 10 rooms in each building. You can request a specific building upon check in, but there is no guarantee as to the exactl location of your room.

Room Information
840 spacious and comfortable guestrooms and suites beautifully decorated with elegant colorful tropical details. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, hair dryer, satellite TV, mini bar, and in-room safe.
The hotel is beautiful. Great for couples or families. The grounds are maintained perfectly and the beach is to die for. Staff is friendly and courteous. Food was good...large variety of things, you name it they have it and a lot of it. They did really good steak and quesadillas plus some interesting desserts. The Guacamole was the best!! I also recommend the popular veal chops in the French Restaurant, and one of the best a la carte restaurants in the hotel. My room was clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated.
What We'd Change
I found in order for me to get my favorite beach chair every day, I had to go to the beach at 6:30 to get the best seats (as I love lounging on the beach!)
Why You Should Go
Most beautiful, crystal clear beach shores in the Playacar area. The resort is located at the end of the hotel strip. There were many pools to choose from with many activities going on all day long. Activities were great; the animation team really works hard to get everyone involved. There was as much or as little as you wanted to do at this resort! One rainy day I even treated myself to a day at the Spa!...The Spa menu was filled with a variety of services from places all over the world! Overall this is a great place for a family vacation and I we would definitely recommend it.
