Disappointed. Book elsewhere!

Service was sorely lacking. We've stayed at many Caribbean resorts and this was the worst, despite being rated "4 1/2 Suns" by Cheap Caribbean. We were assigned this resort as part of their "Deal of Fortune," which makes me distrust Cheap Caribbean's rating system and promotions for the future. Starting at check in, there was no greeting whatsoever and we had to ask where to check in and then wait for someone to become available. The person checking us in seemed very inexperienced, had difficulty finding our reservation, was very distracted, and had to make multiple phone calls before being able to locate our reservation despite us having a printout of our confirmation. We specifically requested a king bed room, and we were taken to a room with 2 double beds. We were told to call the front desk the next day to be moved to a king bed room but by the next day we decided we didn't want to deal with repacking and unpacking so we accepted their mistake. The balcony was pool facing and very small - it only fit two upright chairs so there was no way to recline for instance if there were lounge chairs instead. There was no direct sun or privacy on the balcony anyway. At the buffets, which are your primary option for breakfast and lunch, it is very difficult to get a clean table and coffee or water. We noticed multiple other guests seated near us complaining about the same thing and looking frustrated and unhappy. One couple actually started a conversation with us asking if we were as disappointed as they were about the service. Generally I noticed guests needing to flag down staff and ask repeatedly for what they needed and we experienced the same. People (myself included) were asking for standard items such as silverware, napkins, water, and coffee. in one specific case we saw, the table next to us had to ask several times for coffee, and when it finally arrived there was no milk or sugar. Sugar was taken from our table but it took another round of catching a server and explaining what was needed, then a long wait wondering if the request was understood (it was not despite gestures and the word "milk" said in several languages), and another server had to intervene) before the milk arrived. By then, I'm sure our neighbor's coffee was cold but we left our table as the whole process was painful to watch. Their interaction characterized the overall experience at the resort. Because of the general inefficiency and disorganization, staff seemed stressed, spread thin, and annoyed at guests. At the buffets, food is poorly and inconsistently labeled and if you have a food allergy, the utensils are shared between multiple dishes. Plates are not washed throughly and I would have to set several plates aside before finding a relatively clean one. Some items at the buffet were obviously reheated and still cold in the center, other items were frozen solid. The selection of food is heavy on the fried, creamy, and carb heavy spectrum. Almost all desserts were a variation on a whipped mousse and cake combination and the presentation could be improved. Dinner service at the reservation restaurants is a little better, but we still had issues with getting everything we ordered and the temperature of the food (some chilled items were completely frozen, hot items were tepid). If you have 6 PM reservations, I suggest arriving a little early as a line forms of people waiting to be seated. Overall the staff seems less fluent in English compared to other resorts we have stayed at leading to communication issues. There is a lot of sales pressure at the resort - almost every unsolicited interaction was with sales people trying to get us join their travel club, take a look at souvenirs, and book excursions or spa treatments or anything else that cost extra. All that being said, when the weather is on your side the beach is great and you are disconnected from the frustrations of the resort. When the weather is not great, I suggest accessing the gym and wellness spa (which is included).

Restaurants, gym, spa, athletic options and sports bar are all excellent. Room was good but not great (would trade room quality for amenities). Pools great. Beach nice but not a lot of distance between shaded tree area and water. Only one ATM on the property which worked 50% of the time. Overall we loved it and would return.

Honeymoon at Grand Palladium Turquesa

We spent 9. amazing days on our honeymoon at the The Grand Palladium Suites Turquesa. It is one of four in the complex and is the adult only part of it. The entire resort is very big and there is plenty to do. The staff is extremely personable and makes you really feel like their family. The food here is not like your average all inclusive. They have a very big variety of restaurants to choose from and decorated according to culture and it all tastes amazing. We did not have one bad meal at the restaurants themselves. They have multiple buffets that are nice as well but are buffets none the less. They are good for breakfast or lunch and then you can dine at the multiple restaurants for dinner for anything you feel like. The staff everywhere is very helpful. From a ride to the spa or to the beach or grabbing a drink where ever you feel like and any resort you want. I highly recommend the Turquesa Resort by Palladium to whomever is looking to relax and feel comfortable everywhere you want to go.

Honeymoon

We chose this resort since there were other resorts owned by the same company that we could visit. The grounds were beautiful. We walked most places but also rode their golf carts driven by resort staff to get around. Good food selection. Make sure to try different restaurants to find what you like. Remember that no food is ever like home. We ate off site at a restaurant Captain Cook that was amazing with fresh seafood. The hotel lobby bar was the best bar on the grounds that we found. It was the only bar that did not seem like they waterered the alcohol down. The majority of the resort staff was awesome. Our butlers Manuel & Charlie were the best! The beach and water were breathtaking. The sand was so soft and the water was clear. We loved our swim-up suite even though we really didn't use the pool much. The room was great. The resort credits we received were only coupons able to be used for specific items. The on-site shopping prices were pretty comparable to near-by shops for local goods. The biggest downfall of the trip was our Amstar representative, Ruth. She called our room at 08:30am on the 2nd day to remind us to meet her at 09:30am. We were on our honeymoon & did not like being called at 08:30am. We went ahead and got up to meet her at the lobby for 09:30am & waited around for 10 mins. 1 of the resort staff said they saw her but did not know where she went. So we went about our day, met up with some friends that accompanied us & went to the beach. On the way back in, I saw a desk with Amstar on it and introduced myself to Ruth. I explained that we had looked for her earlier with no luck. She asked me for my return flight info. I didn't have it on me as we were walking in from the beach. I told her that our return flight was going to Miami and the roundabout time. She insisted that there were no flights with that info and wrote down a time for us to be in the lobby for pickup on our departure date. She then asked us if we had booked any excursions. I told her that 1 of our friends accompanying us scheduled a fishing trip. She continued to ask who he booked through and I told her he had booked with an employee at a restaurant we ate at. She told me that "you are not allowed to do that." I explained that he had not booked with cheap Caribbean.com and was not bound to anything with her. She then proceeded to become very beligerent ask who he booked his trip with. She also told me "good luck with that because if you have bad weather you won't get your money back." At that point I got up and walked away. She had ZERO customer service skills with us. Fast forward a few days and another couple came to meet us. They too had to meet with Ruth regarding transportation they set up through Amstar. They did however have all of our return flight info for her. She looked up the flight and set them up for a different pick-up time. I told Ruth that we are all on the same flight and our pick-up should be changed to the same time. Ruth said "well then you had to have told me the wrong info." I explained how I didn't have the info on me and she insisted that there was no flight info with the time frame I had provided. She said she had already sent the info to the office and would have to change it since I gave her the wrong info. At this time, the friends with me and my husband had enough of Ruth's blatent rudeness. They confirmed that our pick-up time would all be together and we left. They did book an excursion with her as she told us we had to since we booked with Cheap Caribbean.com. I do not know how true that is. She was by far the worst part of our trip & needs a lesson om customer service. Luckily, there was only 1 of her and everyone else made up for her horrible attitude. I will book with cheap Caribbean.com in the future. It was easy and reliable.
