Great Resort! Highly Recommended!

As an English-speaking person that doesn't understand Spanish, it was difficult at times trying to communicate with the staff -- especially outside the restore. However, those at the Front Desk seem to be able to understand and speak clearer than most and were very pleasant. The room was awesome! Very large, big shower with good water pressure and nice and COLD with the ceiling fan. I was surprised to see 4 bottles of booze hanging on the wall! However, the dingy-white and scratchy towels were a disappointment. The food was okay. A fairly nice variety most of the time. Some was a little on the bland side. Most of the time it was hard to find a clean table. It would have been nice to have "to go" containers so we can take food to our rooms instead of open plates. The pool area was great! However, I will warn people... the shallow areas where they have the built-in lounge seats ARE VERY SLIPPERY -- probably due to all of the sunscreen everyone was using. For 5 days and 4 nights with airfare and an all-inclusive, this was one of the best deals I ever spent on a vacation.

Great Resort! Highly Recommended! Private Bar

Beautiful Beaches

Arrived on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 on Sun Country Airlines. I had never heard of this airline before but was pleasantly surprised. Flight was on time, spacious seating, ambience was better than competitors like Spirit and the landing was smooth. We were escorted by airport employees from tarmac to customs and immigration. After walking out to where the pre-arranged transport, I found it very daunting to try and find my bus. A man helped me with my bags and to find my transportation so I tipped him $2 (one bag). I had to wait around for other people riding on the bus for 30 minutes. Also, I was the last resort he dropped off so I had to wait on that as well, but I didn't mind bc I wanted to see the country side and scout other resorts. I would recommend arranging private transportation so you can hit the ground running and head straight to your resort. RIU Republica was my resort. At check-in I was given coupons and a barely legible map of the resort bc it was a copy of a copy of a copy, so I just explored on my own. Everything was in working order but I found dried blood on the toilet seat...DISGUSTING! I reported it and it was cleaned...4 DAYS LATER. Needless to say I did not use my room's toilet. I later found that the walls and floors between levels were paper thin (definitely not 12" concrete), so I heard EVERYTHING! I did not sleep well. The food was bland, maybe bc they don't use butter to cook. Breakfast buffet was decent, but The Asian buffet at Kaori was the only food I could stomach and they're only open at dinner so I ate sandwiches and nachos from 24 hour sports bar the rest of the time. BRING PEPTO! Water at the resorts (including ice) is safe but the shower and faucet water is NOT. Shower and brush teeth with it but don't drink it. Overall: Great beaches Fun/ nice people Great Excursions, party cruises, zip lines, etc. I should've invested $400-500 more dollars in a better better resort...believe me it's worth it.

Best Beach

Just returned after 7 days. All was awesome. The beaches did not have sea weed which is rare in that area. Staff was awesome. Employees are great and take care of any issues promptly. Drinks easy to get and strong as you like. No problem getting a seat anywhere at the beach or in the pool. I did get tired of the buffet after a few days..but there was always another option. Worth The Price.

The worst resort in punta cana

Now I come to punta cana 5-6 times a year and this resort was the worst after check in our bags were left alone for us to bring them to our room with no direction to the room 30 mins later we found our room most of the staff was rude and ignored your questions The food made us sick every single time we ate don't get me started with the bartenders 20-25 mins at the bar trying to order a drink. If I can give this resort a 0 I would. Epic fail

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

A palatial retreat where the mixin' and the minglin' is only with adults - no kids or crying babies at this resort.

You're located on Dominican's Macoa Beach - the mind-boggling ocean views go on for days.

Taking the introductory scuba lesson (it happens in the pool) - you'll be ready for the ocean waters in no time.

The pools are spacious - you won't bump into each other - no one wants to be that close (especially if the bathrooms are faraway).

When you're ready for your next cocktail, all you have to do is just swim on over to the bar.

Detoxing in the steam bath at the gym (all those icky work impurities will stream out of your pores).

The whirlpool bath that makes you feel like a jelly fish.

What We'd Change

The resort is large, but you really don't feel crowded and the restaurants can accommodate everyone easily and there is plenty of room at the pools.

Why You Should Go

So close to the airport you'll land and be at the resort in a flash - you want your vacay to start immediately!

The Mediterranean-style village Altos de Chavon is near - authentic architecture, swoon-worthy boutiques, cafes & more.

Also in Altos de Chavon, check the Amphitheatre for Kandela! - don't miss this Caribbean musical review.

See the lush landscapes at the Punta Cana Ecological Reserve: plants, animals, coral reef, freshwater lagoons & more.

Hone your golf skills and tune up your tennis swing - both are available near the resort.
