Good for the price

Overall I had a good experience. Unfortunately I went in May not realizing that's Jamaicas rainy season, which is no ones fault but my own for not researching. The people working at the resort were beyond friendly the people in Jamaica go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. The rooms were small with no upgrades available, but they were nice other then the views. The pools seemed small when looking at pictures but both were a good size with swim up bars. My main complaint about the resort was the food. No reseort for this price is going to have amazing food options I realize that. Unfortunately this food wasn't but it wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad the real problem is after 11pm there is no option for eating other then left over burgers and hot dogs in a fridge not even room service. If they had a late night food option my review would be better for sure. Other then that the excursions offered were great and the crowd was young and fun.

This was our second visit to Jamaica and to a Rui Resort. Our first stay was at the Rui Montego Bay. We thoroughly enjoyed the Rui Montego Bay, our only complaint was that it was outdated and needed upgrading. Since the Rui Reggae was new we chose this resort, thinking we could get the same great experience but with newer amenities. We got the newer amenities, but not the great experience. We arrived early so of course our room was not ready (they still graciously offer guest full access to the resort) Yet at check-in time (3:00pm) our room was not ready, then at 4:00 still not ready. We were not happy at this point because late arrivals were going to their rooms and we were still waiting on our room. We were given a bizarre excuse for the delay(s). We FINALLY got in our room about 4:15-4:30. The second issue was the towels, our room attendent took our washcloths and towels and did not replace them. We kept calling for more towels and only received them the day before we left. Thirdly, we tip our hats to OMAINE and TAVIO and the two/three gentlemen on our floor who were VERY friendly and made our stay enjoyable, but overall we DID NOT find this resort to be as friendly as the sister resort. Hopefully the complaints we had were not an everyday ocurrence. With a little more attention to detail this resort could be very nice.

Reggae is great

If your looking for an all inclusive that doesn't cut corners look no further. Riu Reggae is worth whatever you spend. Even the worker were super supportive and was able to assist with whatever was needed.

Very young staff

Our stay here was cut short due to a fire at Riu Reggae, but noticed several things in the few hours we were here. Would like to note I've been to many inclusive resorts over the past 15-18 years or so and realize that not everything is perfect. Upon arriving from the airport, ambulances and fire trucks were outside the building. We couldn't tell if there was something happening at the resort or an accident on the street. There were about a dozen onlookers, however the resort seemed to be operating as usual (i.e. crowds at the lobby bar being served, people checking in.) Walked in to the lobby and immediately saw a female who appeared to be in her late teens/early twenties in a chair vomiting on the floor (separate incident from the fire trucks outside). Her 2 family members were fanning her but NO hotel staff was helping at all, including a group of 4-5 housekeepers standing a few steps away chatting. We were probably in the lobby a full 20 minutes and absolutely no one helped the girl who was on the verge of passing out. Where was hotel management?? Note: All the staff that I had seen at this resort looked barely out of their teens. It's like it's being run by camp counselors!! I was immediately concerned about the entire operation at Riu Reggae. We were checked in by the girl at the desk but not given direction to our rooms nor any real information as to the hotel (there was only one other group checking in and she didn't seem busy at all). Still couldn't find our room after walking through the lobby and several halls so asked the group of housekeepers (still next to the sick, over served girl) where our room would be. They were confused and sent us IN THE WRONG DIRECTION! Finally found our rooms and rested for 30 minutes until fire alarms and warnings to evacuate came on. Get out to the lobby and was told it was a false alarm. We then decided to get something to eat at the buffet. Everything was picked over and looked awful (this is about 4pm). We then decided to go to the Riu next door to eat which we had access to. BUT it's not the hotel next door, it's two hotels down which we didn't find out until we started walking thru the restaurant and picked up a plate! The girl at the Reggae desk said the other Riu was NEXT DOOR. I would cut the staff some slack due to the scene outside with firetrucks however, the front desk wasn't busy, the staff was jovial with each other and other guests. So I didn't get the sense that they were overwhelmed. Just inexperienced, poorly trained and very young. Finally get to the correct RIU, eat and return to Reggae to find the hallways pitch black. Used our phones to find our way to room, gathered our things and headed to lobby where everyone is being evacuated. Come to find out a boiler blew up and power was lost. I can say this - Riu did a decent job of getting everyone out of the hotel and shuttles to various Riu's throughout the island. The staff was also (shockingly) smart enough to get everyone bottled water. From what little we saw of the resort, it appeared to be very clean and modern. Rooms were very contemporary (which I like) but may be a bit sterile for older visitors.
