Great place!

Pros: Very affordable, extremely friendly and helpful staff who speak English very well. Room was cleaned and tidied every day, drinks in fridge were restocked with a variety to choose from. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with controlled ac and ceiling fan. Balcony with ocean views from basically every room. Tons of bars that are open late. Bartenders were AWESOME and made any drink you wanted. Also made them very strong which was nice. A lot of dining options and unlimited visits to the steakhouse which was fantastic! Asian restaurant was not the best, but had a variety of food. Not sure why some people said there weren't many options for food. Snacks available at 24 hr sports bar, and at mini market. Buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner was also great with a lot of variety. Shows at night we're entertaining, beach party was fun, night club was also fun! Mini bar in rooms with different types of alcohol was such a cool feature that I've never seen before. Cons: SO MANY KIDS!!!!! This trip was everything I wanted it to be, but the amount of children was absurd and ruined the "relaxing" part of my vacation. Most kids were very loud and inconsiderate, with no parents in sight at the pool with the bar. Should be ages 18+ for that pool. Their was a perfectly good kiddie pool with slides and such, but they invaded the adult pools. Also a lot of locals. Only other downfall was the drive from airport to resort, it was 2 1/2 hours with traffic, but totally worth the drive once you get to the resort.

The resort was impressive upon our arrival. However customer service at the front desk spoke very poor English as did the entire resort staff. The accommodations in the room were nice and comfortable in the ocean front rooms. The view from the room was very scenic though the ocean and the beach appeared murky. Maids were courteous and dependable. Activities included: jet skiing, ATV'S, horse back riding, and boating. A negative was the resort was 2 hours from downtown and the airport. Additionally, most activities were at least 1 hour and were a bit costly. The food was ok and usually presented with a nice selection and was pretty good. Also food was available all through the day at the various restaurants. Massages and work out options were available. Entertainment was offered nightly. The shows were ok; but only a couple of nights were really good. The cast were accessible and available for picture taking. Another negative was resort guest children were allowed to run in front of the stage during nightly performances and run around in the adult bars at night. My family and I do quite a bit of traveling: it is very unlikely that we will ever return to this resort.

Amazing honeymoon

My husband and I decided to book with Riu Playa Blanca, and what a great choice that was. Our room was a very clean, sleek, modern room with a view to die for. We loved how the balcony wrapped around, and it was roomy. The pools were always clean, and were cleaned daily. The atmosphere of the resort was like home. Staff was extremely friendly. Always smiling, and happy to assist. Food was really good. I rather enjoyed it all. My husband did express that he wishes there were more native Panamanian cuisine. The Italian restaurant, my goodness, that was our favorite. We literally walked out of the restaurant so stuffed, that we needed a nap to make it through the evening that we had planned for ourselves. The disco was nice, but not my husband's cup of tea, so we didn't stay there long. We were in heaven with riding the horses on the beach, jet skiing and when we went on the Anton Valley excursion. The staff is awesome when explaining and setting up excursions. Honestly, you couldn't argue with the prices either. Everything was VERY affordable. This is my second time staying at a Riu chain, and I can say that I'm hooked!!! Thank you Riu for a honeymoon/experience that will last a lifetime. You guys rock!!!!!! P.S. By NO means is my review an exaggeration. I looked at other reviews before booking, and some of the reviews you can tell, clearly come from people who complain about life itself. In my opinion, they nit pick things and end up ruining their experience. My experience was truly amazing. We're already looking to go back!

Opinion of Riu Playa Blanca

I have stayed at several all-inclusive resorts around the Caribbean, and this is how I rate this resort 1. The entries are not good; however, appetizers are excellent. Limited selection of restaurants. 2. The rooms do not come with shampoo or conditioners, just a general soap dispenser, which makes your hair all dry. 3. Many resorts offer a "hot towel" to refresh guests upon arrival, especially after a two hour drive across country. They did not. 4. Most staff did not speak English and the ones that did, it was very little. Communication was very difficult. 5. Rooms, grounds and common areas were clean and well maintained by staff. 6. No wait staff on the beach area for ordering drinks or take out food. 7. No room service. 8. Bar was stocked very well, but no wine and we do not drink hard liquor.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The palm-tree studded & crystal white-sand beach that's kissed by teal waves.

The boxy, white chic look of the resort and the sleek, hip rooms. It's rock star cool.

RiuLand for kids ages 4-7 and 8-12, children's pool (with a big fun slide) and play area.

Complimentary gym with the sauna. Vacay is the time to purify.

Hanging in the Jacuzzi at the pool and letting it bubble the stress right out of your bod.

What We'd Change

Although the drive from the airport can be a little lengthy, the views of the beautiful Panamanian landscape and payoff after arriving at Riu Playa Blanca are more than worth it.

Why You Should Go

It's 93 miles from the resort (a bit of a drive), but once you get there, it's heaven.

Dive into kayaking windsurfing or the aquagym. Get wet, wild and exercisy.

Check out the snorkeling (fish ogling) and scuba lessons in the pool. Take the plunge.

You can grab a game of volley ball or table tennis, or hit the fitness center for inside sweating.

The shows, live music, disco or cocktails under the moonlight are epic.
