Great time - bring mosquito repellant

Had a great time at this resort. The two pools were by far the center of attention. Swim up bar was heavily used and there we some days we spent 8-9 hours in the pool. The other pool was used more for water games like volleyball. I did note that the bar pool water seemed considerably warmer than the activities pool so if you want to actually "cool down" keep that in mind. Drinks were always well made and never skimped on the alcohol. Room attendants were great and food was excellent! A couple of comments - the evening shows were nicely done but we kept expecting to have them open up the floor for US to dance and they never did. They should give the customers time to get out there! Secondly - do NOT forget a good DEET based mosquito repellant and maybe a swatter. Those little buggers come out at dawn and are plain evil, even if you are in the pool. Had some get in our room and we were bit up in the morning. The resort did "fog" for mosquitos multiple times but they just kept coming. Wifi access was very good in most all locations. Water sports were also fun and we did take an optional tour out on one of the catamaran boats for 6 hours. Worth the cost. Enjoy!

Riu Palace Tropical Bay

Beach is a 10+. Pool deck at this property needs upgrading it's hot cement. Restaurants need to be able to take reservations for parties of 8 or more. rooms need a full size mirror and showers should be updated. Staff was amazing and wonderful. Overall grounds very nice. Entertainment was very good.

Excellent location, Excellent Service

Beach location right in the middle of the bay, calm waters, sandy bottom. Things going on all the time. Food selection great, only issue was the steak house, steak was tough. Staff, top notch. Planning to go next year, it was that good

Excellent

I read all the reviews but I have to say I did not experience any issues other than I did not like the steak house. The meat was very tough. Other than that I would rate it s 4.5 star. The service was excellent, The location you can not bet. I will be back

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The stunning beach with ivory, soft sands hugged by the bluest of tranquil, dreamy water.

Melting at the luscious spa, where the massages and facials transport you to Nirvana.

The outrageously delish, lip-smackin' Jamaican BBQ you can nosh on while chillaxing by the ocean.

The Victorian-style buildings bathed in happy, soft pink, which cause instant happiness.

The liquor dispenser in your room. Your hour of happy can start any time of day.

24-hour room service - if you've got a hankering for grub at 3:15 a.m., you can get it. For realz.

The bonfire and DJ on the beach - you'll feel like you're in a movie.

What We'd Change

The airport is a little over an hour from the resort, but once you get there you'll never want to leave.

Why You Should Go

You can hang out at the sister resort, which includes free access & drinks at the disco, Pacha. Woot!

There are oceans of activities for the kiddos, and even a children's playground where you can have some sandy fun.

Must-dos: Rhodes Hall Plantation for horseback riding & Roaring River for swimming in a fresh water sinkhole.

Don't miss bodyboarding, sail boats, snorkeling and/or for a fee scuba and jet skiing. Dive in.

On land, there's water polo and volleyball in the pool for your splish-splashing pleasure.

On the way home, plant yourself in Club MoBay at the airport for grub and A/C. It's so worth it.
