Not consistent with other Riu experiences

Loved the island of St. Martin very much, but not the best experience we have had with a Riu. We had a group of 5 couples and upon checkin were told we were upgraded to suites (Marina). That was great, but the rooms were very inconsistent. 2 had no shower curtain; despite calling everyday, one of them NEVER got a shower curtain in 5 days. We also had serious issues with AC and it is controlled by staff so you can't turn it down. Also, we had called ahead with questions about the power, and were told they had American power. When we go there, the nursing mother in our group was distraught because the pump wouldn't work without an adapter. It took more than 5 hours to get an adapter. Also, we missed the restaurant dinners the first 2 nights because we were told 3 different things by 3 different employees on how reservations worked. Overall not consistent with other fabulous RIU experiences we have had.

Great resort

We went with our friends to celebrate our anniversaries. We had a great time, can't say enough about the staff they were all very nice and we're focused on taking care of you. We never left the resort, we wanted a place that we didn't want to leave and we got it. Great location on the French side that was secluded.. we went in October so it was off season so dining options were limited on the resort at night. I understand that you can't have everything available every night if you don't have the guests. The meals were great though, quality was awesome. Would go back to this resort next time. Special thanks to Claude for taking care of Maverick and his wing man.

Great time Great people

Over all we had a great time! The resort was very nice however it is starting to show age. The pool has tile falling off and lights missing. Some of the pathways were not lit making getting back to the room adventous. The food was really good with many options. However the restaurant system they have is a bit cumbersome. The staff is excellent and really showed they like their jobs! We had a lot of fun with them! The grounds are nice and so is the beach! The drinks were good as well!!

Beautiful Island... Choose a different resort

We have stayed at several Riu's in the past and have had wonderful experiences. So naturally when we were looking to go to St Martin we chose Riu without question. When we arrived, we were immediately disappointed. The resort was not gated and clearly marked. The front desk was unhelpful and less than charming. When we arrived to our room there was an unpleasant odor. In addition, our room was covered in ants daily (not due to any food or beverage in our room). The bedroom was extremely hot and we were unable to adjust the thermostat. When we called the front desk, we were told it was too expensive to make the room cool. Also, the resort stated they had 3 restaraunts. However, only one restaurant was open the majority of the trip- which only accommodated 35 people per night total. Room service was less than impressive with 6 options total. The beaches and pools were nice. However, the pool closed at 7pm and the hot tub was broken. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else! Aside from the resort, we loved St. Martin!!

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

It's a swanky destination in a Caribbean fav. St Martin is oooo la la chic.

Riu sits on the jaw-dropping Anse Marcel Beach - this crescent-shaped beach dazzles in white and blue.

The paths around the resort are perfect for daytime, afternoon and evening strolls.

Staying in and dining on the balcony is always a fav - 24-hour room service lets you dine at all hours.

Got the kiddos? Perfect. Let them have their own fun at the kid's club. You get much needed spa time.

What We'd Change

Some say it's a bit isolated, but we think it's the perfect escape. If you want to see the island, you may want to rent a car.

Why You Should Go

Nestled on the French side of St Martin. The 45-minute drive from the airport is worth the tres awe-mazing views.

It's a vibrant yachting destination - carve out some time to ogle at the chic boats in the marina.

There's live music at the resort a few times a week. Get your cocktail and enjoy the local sounds of the island.

The Iguana's by the pool are harmless picture-worthy creatures and add to the natural landscape.

Nature reserves are near the resort - hiking the trails and snorkeling the bright blue seas is a must.
