Just what I needed

I enjoyed this relaxing getaway. This is the first review that I have ever written. It was so very helpful to read all the reviews prior to booking so I thought I would participate. The resort was very clean and pretty. Our room was just a short walk to anywhere you wanted to go on the resort: the restaurants, gift shop, pool or beach. The room was also clean but warm so we asked the front desk to adjust the temperature and they did at first request. Bring a plug converter for outlets. Room includes WiFi, a fridge-bar and hairdryer- which was in a weird location so found it after day 2. Bed was comfy. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. I read reviews that some were not friendly but I did not experience that at all. I loved talking to Annie, Dominique, Rosemary, and Brenton. The food was amazing! Yes, lots of seafood options. I do not eat seafood and still plenty of options to choose from. I liked the buffet restaurant the best. The fruit was so fresh and they have a huge salad bar in the buffet restaurant. Lots to choose from. For those with kids, there was a section of pizza, pasta and even french fries. The desserts were great too. The best part was the ocean. We never entered the pool but it looked beautiful. The beach was why I went and it did not disappoint! Water was calm and perfect for swimming or just floating. This resort was great for relaxing. Just what I was looking for.

Lasting Memories!

Riu Place St. Martin was absolutely Wonderful, I love how it's in the valley between the two mountains. A private enclave for resting, relaxing and enjoying the French cuisine. Since I came by myself, I would have my family travel with me if I were to visit again. My daughter recommended this resort and then my niece also stayed here for rest and relaxing after working on the Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign. Wonderful way to regroup with one self and refocus. All in all, I would highly recommend Rui Place St Martin.

Counting the days 'til I go back...

My wife, two children (3 and 4) and me. The resort is in the french side so it was about a 30 min drive. Trust me it is not bad. Yes, I will go back. My wife liked it, my kids enjoyed it, it was not crowded, guest were not rude and staff was great. No one got sick. The resort is good. It is nothing fancy or extravagant. It is just what we needed. It is not a brand new place, but it was it was good. The room was clean, some minor wear and tear, but clean. The room was big and we were able to fit a roll-out bed and a crib. The staff... they were amazing. Friendly, sweet and kind. They always tried their best to accommodate our needs and make our children feel at home. The pool is big, it allowed for adults and single people to be in one side and families in the other. They have water "toys" (Kayaks, jet skis, paddle boards and a trampoline, all of these are included as part of the all inclusive package (not 100% about the jet skis). The beach was big enough to allow everyone to have their space and chair . The water was calm and it was good for our kids to walk and float around. In terms of location, it is 20-30 min away from the airport....it may sound like a lot...but it is not bad. The resort is a 5 minute ride to the boat that goes to Pinel Island. If you do go, go early so that you can grab a pair of chairs and an umbrella and yes, you will need to pay for them. We went there in the morning and stay the whole day. They also have two restaurants there. Orient Beach is close as well. If you do rent a car, you would be no more than 30 min from most oft he beaches. We went to different beaches every morning and it was great. You will need to be patient as some of the entrances are a bit hard to identify, but it is worth it. Things I would do diff: I would rent a smaller SUV. We rented a Chevrolet Spark, which was ok, but had trouble handling the hills. I would get a better idea of where the beaches are. Baie Rouge took about an hour to find...i could have been there in 30 min. Things are expensive, so bring your snorkeling gear with you.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

It's a swanky destination in a Caribbean fav. St Martin is oooo la la chic.

Riu sits on the jaw-dropping Anse Marcel Beach - this crescent-shaped beach dazzles in white and blue.

The paths around the resort are perfect for daytime, afternoon and evening strolls.

Staying in and dining on the balcony is always a fav - 24-hour room service lets you dine at all hours.

Got the kiddos? Perfect. Let them have their own fun at the kid's club. You get much needed spa time.

What We'd Change

Some say it's a bit isolated, but we think it's the perfect escape. If you want to see the island, you may want to rent a car.

Why You Should Go

Nestled on the French side of St Martin. The 45-minute drive from the airport is worth the tres awe-mazing views.

It's a vibrant yachting destination - carve out some time to ogle at the chic boats in the marina.

There's live music at the resort a few times a week. Get your cocktail and enjoy the local sounds of the island.

The Iguana's by the pool are harmless picture-worthy creatures and add to the natural landscape.

Nature reserves are near the resort - hiking the trails and snorkeling the bright blue seas is a must.
