If you've been climbing into your kid's sandbox wearing your swim trunks and a silver reflector propped under your chin, it's definitely time to get away. Leave disturbia and sneak off to a terrific all inclusive resort like Riu Palace Punta Cana on Arena Gorda beach, right on the southeastern tip of the Dominican Republic.

Beautiful clean, got a little restless
This is a beautiful, clean first class property. The food was wonderful but it was a slight hassle booking the a la carte restaurants.
Good entertainment and activities.
Watch out for the phone rates. I went outside the resort and took a scooter into town to buy a Dominican Orange SIM card for my cell phone and was able to make local calls and were able to communicate if we got separated. Using the room phone would have been very expensive.
I bypassed the packaged tours and found a vendor to escort us into Higuey by guagua bus to see the basilico and the mercado. I wish it was easier to find a guide or driver. The taxis at the hotel are pretty expensive.
The people were nice and the resort and beaches were beautiful. The food on the buffets was horrible. Nothing healthy was offered. The restaurants that were only open for dinner required reservations did have good food, but they only had 2 seating times each night. You have to make all your dinner reservations in the morning and they book up fast. It would have been nice to have a restaurant for lunch other than the buffet. Every thing was over cooked, and there were no fresh vegetables. We have been to Punta Cana before at another resort and the food there was not great, but it was better than this resort.
We also booked a zip line tour. The tour guide told us it would take 45 minutes to get to the zip line and it took 2 hours!
We had a massage and facial at the spa and those services were very good. The spa itself is nothing special but the spa technician was very good and very friendly.
All of the staff was very nice and friendly throughout the resort. The service and the friendliness of the resort staff really made the vacation enjoyable.
The resort and beach are beautiful - had stayed at a Riu Palace in Mexico last year, and this one is almost identical. The room was nice and well cleaned, only complaint about that is that the bed is hard. The buffet is good - just wish there were more options and flexibility for dining in the specialty restaurants. We appreciated not being bombarded with timeshare sales. We also liked that even though it's not adult-only, it's geared to adults and there were very few children there. One other complaint is the same one you hear everywhere - people go out very early with their towels and "reserve" all the lounge chairs around the pool. Still there were always available chairs on the beach, which was our preference anyway.
This is my second time staying at the Riu palace punta cana and I enjoyed my vacation each time. the room is very nice i had a pool/ocean view. the food is good and plenty to choose from. the staff and the intertainment crew are very pleasant. the staff went out of their way to make the guess feel comfortable. The beach and pool are great and beautiful. thank you to cheapcaribbean staff for making my travel the best experience ever. thank you to juan from olympus for taking care of my friends and i with ground transportation and thank you to guido for the reservations at the restaurants. Over all great experience, great vacation.i can't wait to go back except not during high season too crowded.
