Not for everyone, but definitelyfor me

I was honestly hesitant when booking this trip after reading previous reviews. I was traveling for my 25th birthday and booked this trip about 3 weeks before going. However, when arriving to the resort, my guest and I were greeted by a very pleasant doorman who took our bags and walked us to get checked-in. At that time, our room was not ready so they held our bags and we ate the buffet for lunch. We then walked around the hotel, checked out the activities the resort had for the week and got ourselves a drink. By that point, our room was ready. Our room was 511 which had the view of the ocean and the pool area- very nice. Down fall of the room was that it was also overlooking the top of the building next door- but it was easily overlooked by the scene of the ocean. The room had a king size bed and was very clean. We changed, dropped our bags and headed for the beach. The first two days of our stay there was a "cold front" which made the beach very winded that caused the sand to hit your face so we mainly hung out at the pool area. There was always workers walking around either taking drink orders (which were obviously free considering it's all inclusive) and also workers picking up garbage around the pool area. There was entertainment around the pool area every day. Can't really say it was for adults- mainly for younger kids, but at times it was enjoyable to watch. Music was always playing and the pool bartenders were always looking to make guests happily drinking. Two bartenders, Lenny and Donny, were our favorites as they never failed to keep a smile on your face. Very friendly. On the day of my birthday, I had mentioned to housekeeping that it was my birthday and she decorated the room with animals made from towels and a complimentary champagne bottle. Yes, the hotel did have a funky smell to it. But it is not as bad as what other guests had mentioned. Plus, you're not even inside most of the time! The room did have a drip coming from the vent which was easily fixed by placing a towel on the floor. The buffet dining was amazing. Every night was a different genre of food: Italian, Bahamian, Asian, etc. I only ate at the steak house and I got the Lobster- FUN FACT: you can order both the steak and the lobster- didn't know this till after I saw the table next to us do it. Alll in all, it was a great trip. You can walk through the hotel next door to get to the Atlantis and it is only a 5 minute walk if you go through there. Would definitely come back here and recommend to friends/family.

Very disappointed with the rooms

This property was described as offering Junior Suites and that is what my friends and I booked (total 3 ladies). We arrived at the hotel and and were given our room and upon walking in, the room stunk of cigarette smoke and the room was tiny. Additionally, it was a basic hotel room. However, the beds are only XL twins, not fulls as the hotel claims and certainly not queen beds. We complained about the room, that it wasn't a junior suite and about the cigarette smell. They moved us to another room that also was not a suite but a standard hotel room that had 2 beds, 2 chairs and a table. When we questioned them on the "junior suite" they claimed that the whole hotel is junior suites, which they basically call a standard hotel room. We told them that we anticipated having a room with a small living room that was separate because that is what a junior suite is and they said that they call that a "family suite". So, needless to say, we were stuck in this standard hotel room and because the beds were so small and they do not offer roll away cots or pull out couches, the 3 of us had to push the beds together and share the bed. And, because the beds were pushed together, they kept separating because they don't offer anything to keep them locked together. The rooms were clean, just not what we expected at all. The hotel was clean and the food was decent. Was disappointed that they don't offer waiter service on the beach and that the bar makes drinks in child size cups so most of the guests purchased larger cups at a local store for the bartenders to fill for us so that we weren't at the bar every 5 minutes.

Great fun/great value

The resort is a little dated but we hear that they will be renovating. The staff go above and beyond to be friendly and outgoing despite some of the vacationers they have to deal with. The entertainment is good and the staff put a lot of effort into getting people involved. My only suggestion would be to have more Top 40 music here and there and less traditional Bahamian line dancing. One or two nights is good but every night got to be a bit much especially since most visitors are American and Canadian. The beach got 3 palms only because it was extremely crowded, Cabbage Beach used to be one of those undiscovered gems but not any more. The beach area at the Riu was wall to wall people. Perhaps a busy week? The pool with all the use was very cloudy. The BIGGEST reason I would potentially not do this vacation again would be the selection of airlines, which the resort had nothing to do with. We flew Delta and almost as predicted there was a 3 hour flight delay coming home. When we asked they said it was due to weather. However there were no flight delays for any other airlines. We flew into MA and others were flying to Canada, NY, MN, poor excuse for the delay. Had there not been a delay however, I don't think Majestic Tours would have gotten us to the airport on time. The lines were extremely long at the airport, again a busy week?

The water sports (jet skis, water skiing & more) will blow you out of the water. Hang on!

You can dive into aahh-mazing excursions like swimming with the dolphins.
