Great Time
Everything was arranged by Cheap Caribbean. Great service, very accommodating, food was good, very clean, would recommend to a friend.
This was our first trip to Bahamas. I reach all the Hotels and decided on the RUI Palace on Paradise Island.
We arrived on Thursday April 12th. After a hour and half airplane flight, and then a 30 min ride to the hotel we were very tired.
After waiting in the long check-in line we are told that the hotel has over booked and we have to stay the night at their other hotel called Paradise Hotel for one night. We were not happy about this at all.
We were sent to the Paradise by taxi. When arriving at the Paradise Hotel we met many other people who have been sent to Paradise and they too had booked their trip with Cheap Caribben.
Paradise Hotel is a DUMP Hotel. (It needs to be thrown down and rebuilded).
We stayed there Thursday night, and checked out at 10:30a. We took a taxi back to the RUI Hotel to get our room. Upon arriving there we are told we have to wait until 2p-3p for our roon.
At 11:30a we saw some people we had met at Paradise Hotel. While talking to them and finding that they just got their room we went back to the front desk to ask for our room.
This vacation turn out very good, but getting a room at the RUI Hotel has been the hardest thing I have ever experience.
We asked at the front desk how do they decide who will have have to go to Paradise Hotel, and we were told it is a random drawing.
We found it very interesting that everyone we met at Paradise had booked their trip with Cheap Caribbean.
We paid for four nights to stay at RUI Hotel NOT the Paradise Hotel.
That was the nightmare of our trip.

Nice hotel
My family and I just returned from an awesome week at the Riu. The service was great, the restaurants were very good, the portions of food could be bigger. The staff were very friendly, remember to tip, it goes a long way. The pool was clean early then it got murky as the day wore on. Save your towels for the early mornings then select a chaslounge of your choice around 8AM. Night life is OK avg. Try to get over to Atlantis, its free to walk around after 6PM. We will return there perhaps next year so that says it was well worth it. Enjoy

Lauren
There are no horseback riding tours offered as part of the packages to the Bahamas, however you might be able to get some additional information regarding other excursions available in the area through the Bahamas Tourism website - www.bahamas.com.
KateB
We did not select this trip, but I did talk to another vacationer who had done a horse ride along the beach and they said it was awesome.
Indianna
yes, you can they offer horseback riding on the beach, you can sign up at most hotel adventure agents
2glovegolfer
Not sure but I would think so. Email the hotel or Tourism.
Reded
You'll have to contact the tour companies for an answer.
vegas
There is an excursion for horseback riding but it is pretty pricey. It is on the opposite side of the main island and would be a full day.

I know that the Riu Palace at Paradise Island does not offer beach umbrellas - is there somewhere one can be rented?
1 year, 14 months ago
twobutlers
The Dreams hotel we stayed out had umbrellas, towels, lounges and on the beach drink service...
JoeG
We did not look elsewhere. There were plenty of beautiful palm trees on the beach that if you wanted shade, it was found.
Indianna
Yes! There are private companies owned by the government on the beach to rent umbrellas. The charge is approximately $25 per day.
MariaCC
There is plenty of coverage on the beach with chairs and umbrellas.
shinkie
I am confused. One of the reviews that I read said no beach umbrellas. But one of the answers to my question indicated there were beach umbrellas. I am going to purchase one to take with me if there are none. Would some who has stayed at the Riu Palace before please clear up my confusion. Thank you!
twobutlers
You can rent them on the beach for $25 per day.
Pattigirl
It does offer beach umbrellas and there are plenty of them.
Happyinparadise
I've gotten complimentary chairs on the Riu Beach and see umbrella's everywhere. Not sure if they are also complimentary, but I know they are available.
Roxie1996
yes you can rent an umbrella on the beach right on the beach from vendors
muddymont
$25 for the entire day use of an umbrella, always offered!
DianaJam
I didn't use an umbrella, but i'm pretty sure they have them. in any case, there is a public access beach right next to Riu's beach, and definitely had umbrellas to rent.
carola
you can rent them at the beach the locals are out there early morn til close you can barter the price i suggest you do and you can also bargain for a price for the week they will set up chairs and umbrella a soon as you start down the stairs

is there a casino on property11 answers
1 year, 13 months ago
frabk
According to the website there is not a casino on the Riu property but there is one at the Atlantis, which is a 5-minute walk.
twobutlers
No there is not.
Ninilicious
yes there is a very small casino.
suunymiche
No, there is not a casino at the Riu, however, there is a casino at the Atlantis which is just down the street.
Tatic
No Casino, but right next to the Atlantis
ODOSOU
No casino on site, but the Atlantis is literally just steps away.
KimG
The casino is in the Atlantis complex. The Atlantis is just across the entrance way, 2 min walk from door to door. Once you get into the Atlantis, it's about a 5 min walk thru their building. their is an Atlantis entrance closer to the actual casino, and you could easily get a taxi from the front door of the Riu to that entrance if you have trouble walking.
Roxie1996
there is not a casino on sight but you are right next door to the atlantis, which you can easily walk to
muddymont
It is a five min walk into the atlantis to go to the casino, we did that everyday. It was awesome!
DianaJam
not on property, but right next door at Atlantis, a 5 minute walk
carola
you are within walking distance to the Atlantis casino next door

What is the difference in a Jr. Suite Oceanview and a Jr. Suite Superior Oceanview? Does anyone that has stayed at the Riu Palace know?
1 year, 13 months ago
twobutlers
My daughter and her boyfriend stayed their last month and the only difference was that the Superior had jacuzzi tub in the room in a winding staircase but the layout of the room was identical so they stayed in the junior suite instead of paying the extra money. Wasn't worth it just for the tub.
LouF1954
I think it is close to the water.
Happyinparadise
I stayed there in October in a superior ocean view, and was on the 10th floor. Last weekend I stayed in the plain oceanview, and was on the 4th floor. Same side of the building, just on a lower floor. Room was the same.....amazing and the view was the same.
Roxie1996
the difference is the size of patio and position in jr suite you are able to sea ocean and a great view the other is straight away we stayed in jr suite you are really out enjoying the scenery more than from your room
icky54
I assume Superior Oceanview means better view of the ocean and probably a few dollars more per day. It may be a classification used by the hotel for different types of rooms.
benitocarmen50
I believe its a more spacious room - with a larger balcony closer to the ocean view - hotel sits vertical to ocean so the more expensive room is almost as close as you can get to the ocean. Room/Balcony def larger.
BahamaMamma
sorry don't know the difference
2glovegolfer
Superior means you get the best view of the ocean because technically every room seems to have some view of the ocean even if from the side.
Sparkles
The superior sweet is the end room on each floor so there is only 1 per floor, and the room is much larger, with a huge balcony! But really the junior sweet is very big with a huge bed and balcony, so it's not really worth the money for the bigger room, unless you have kids.
DDan4th
I'm not definite. But I believe that all the rooms are the same. The difference might be how much of an oceanview you may receive. I think the Superior Oceanview rooms are on the 11-15th floors where the Jr Suites are the lower floors.
cberry
The superior gives you 1 extra chair in the same sized room...LOL
FrequentFlyer
I just stayed there and my answer is that the Oceanview has a side angled view of the ocean (still good) and the Superior Oceanview has a more front facing view.

why does the pool close so early????5 answers

becky
Hi Becky,
Rest assured, you are able to use the pools after 6PM. The lifeguards leave for the day at that time and any swimming after that hour is permissable but at your own risk. Additionally, the beach never closes!
ccsusan1
Any all-inclusive I've been to in the Caribbean all close around 6:00.
I think it's for the better, can you imagine all the drunks that would be partying. Not to say I.m not a drinker but all day at the pool drinking is enough for me.
There might be insurance issues too.
naha54
The pool is open, but just at your own risk. I saw some people in the pool even after dinner sometimes. Just bring your towels back the next day to make sure that you receive your towel cards.
cberry
Very good question! We asked ourselves the exact same question when we were there. It closes at 6pm and there are no lights in the pool for night swims. If I were to guess, I would say they are catering more to the wants of the staff than to the customer. I would email them that question.
Reded
It closes basically when the sun goes down.
vegas
Don't really know the answer to that unless it's because of all the free booze.....don't want anyone getting drunk and falling in?
Melebean
There are two sittings for dinner 6:30p and 8:30p and there are entertainment (shows or bands) at night.

Not at this Hotel Riu Palace, but at Atalantis resort you can swim with dolphins, but its very expensive.
Mike0718
There is a dolphin swim available at "Dolphin Encounters". You take the ferry over to Blue Lagoon and can spend the whole day there if you want to. They also have a sea lion encounter, which my husband and I did. I was awesome.
tishy57
There are several Dolphin encounters available. One through Atlantis and others privately.
Reded
Majestic Tour company provides one. They are located in the hotel lobby.

There is a dolphin encounter available next door at the Atlantis. We did not to it, but saw advertising for it:)
CK3121
Excursions are available through the Riu and at the Atlantis next door.

Yes, you can book in the lobby.

Is there a cost to enter the casino at Atlantis? How far is the casino from this resort?6 answers

Mdl
there are additional cost to enter on the property of the Atlantis but we are not provided with that infomration. The atlantis is located right next to the Riu.
DanielleCC
There is no cost to enter the casino and it is just a short walk (10 minutes) through the interior of the complex. While walking there is lots to see and plenty of shops.
Reded
There is not cost to enter Atlantis. RIU is next door to Atlantis and about a five minute walk to the casino.
vegas
There is no cost to enter the casino at Atlantis:) We had a couple days of "icky" weather and headed over there to burn some time while waiting for the sunshine!! Just make sure u enter thru the hotel itself, we tried to walk the beach back to Riu one day when leaving and got stopped right at the door because we were not registered hotel guests, oops:(
CK3121
No cost to enter the casino but you may leave your money there! Access is very easy - walk down the driveway at the Riu and up the driveway next door, follow through the interconnecting buildings of the Atlantis and there you are. 5 minutes unless you stop to shop or take pictures along the way.
Melebean
There is NO cost to enter the casino at Atlantis.
The Atlantis is next door to the RUI Hotel.
Just go next door to the main entrance for the Coral Tower and there are signs for walking to the casino.

You'll have to get with the tour companies situated in the hotel lobby. Majestic Tour company is what I used.
vegas
You are able to book excursions prior to travel with your vacation package or directly with Majestic Tours while in destination. These excursions can be viewed during the online booking process.
MariaCC
Free activities include pool games, ping pong, afternoon dance/water aerobics (way more fun than it sounds!) and darts. Locals offer items for sale on the beach, jet ski rentals, banana boat rides and fishing trips. Excursions include just about everything you can think of and can be scheduled through the Riu or next door at the Atlantis.

The price listed on the website is the price per person, based on double occupancy in the room. That price would not be applicable if only ione person stayed in the room as they would be charged as a single supplement.

The price listed is for one person. It is very worth the price.

FOOD AND DRINKS3 answers
How was the food? What does the Riu consider Imported and domestic beers? Did you have to pay additional for the specialty restaurants? Did they have entertainment in the evenings at the hotel?
D
The food at this resort is very good and the specialty restaurants are great. They do not cost extra, but you do need to make reservations. I would suggest making your reservations as early as the resort will allow so that you don't miss out. They have entertainment, shows, every night.
ccsusan1
Food was excellent. Several choices of beer. No money is required at all and the entertainment was great.
Pattigirl
The food was good. We ate at the buffet for lunch and dinner and had breakfast brought up by room service. You do not have to pay extra for the speciality restaurants but you have to make reservations and you can only do that btw 8-9am. The have 2 or three brands of their beer and the had miller lite stocked in your room and they have heinekin. They have entertainment every night in the lounge bar and a 24 hour sports bar
