There's much better RIU resorts
This resort was not the best experience at RIU. I normally love their resorts but this one had really poor front desk service to begin with. They told us as we registered that there was no availability the entire time we were there for the speciality restaurants. Even coming down to reserve early was not possible, and that in no way did they have room for us during our entire stay. On the other hand, we had a beautful room upgrade due to the fact that the resort was completely full. We recieved the top room, which was bigger than a normal one bedroom Manhattan apartmment. It had an enormous bathroom, seperate jaccuzzi inside and outsde, living room, walk in closet (really walk in) and a jucuzzi outside with a huge private deck patio. That was a great surprise. The staff was courteous but not friendly like the staff in Cabo, at the RIU palace, the food was average. The pools were immaculate, and the bars and club were average. The beach was ok, swimmable, but storms kept it muddy on shore ( may-june 1st). We have had 3 stays at RIU ourselves, and our daughter/son in law, as well as our son/daughter inlaw stayed at the one in Cabo and loved it, so this was disappointing. We did ask for patio chair mats as they had just chairs with wire seats, and they did not arrive, even though we asked repeatedly.
Just returned today from a fabulous trip to the Riu Palace.
The resort was spectacular. The grounds were immaculate. The service was exceptional. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. The nightly shows were very entertaining. The cleanliness was refreshing...the staff was continually cleaning everything and everywhere. We have never seen anything like it in terms of cleanliness. We mainly stayed at the resort for 5 days of relaxation with our families. Beach was good though we would have preferred not having the people trying to sell things to us throughout the day daily. They were not bothersome or pushy, just not expected at a resort of this level.
Food was very good, especially Krystal and Guacamole. The buffets were excellent with tremendous variety at all meals. Hint: for a less crowded buffet, try to go to La Toscana instead of Peninsula. At Peninsula, ask for Arturo. He is wonderful.
Only downsides: The resort makes it almost impossible to find change for US currency. The front desk is worthless when it comes to being helpful finding any change US or Mexican. Seek out the waiters, servers and bartenders for US change. The Sports Bar has pool tables and some video games but has absolutely no change (you need 5 peso coins to play). They tell you to go to the front desk to get change and the front desk is very unhelpful is giving change. The pool tables and video games would be quite profitable IF they had a change machine.
Last downside...the workout room offers very little variety in terms of weight machines. No leg machines, No biceps. 4 total machines (chest, lat pulldown, shoulder press and back press). They absolutely need to invest in a dumbbell rack but probably do not do so because of the tile floor. They should probably play music into the workout room instead of the limited options on the TVs. They do have treadmills, steppers, ellipticals and bikes. It is very clean.
If you venture out, Daquiri Dicks in Puerto Vallarta is exceptional despite the name. The food is wonderful. The strolling guitar player/singer is tremendous. Go at sunset. Be careful with the Tequila :o)
Just returned from a fantastic week at the RIU Palace Pacifico. Nothing short of outstanding. Were there over Haloween and thanks to "The Pope" and "Sister Mary M" for a hilarious evening! Anyone who rates this property less than perfect should stay home.

Riu Palace Pacifico: Sunny Flamingos Beach and All Inclusive Family Fun
Watching sunsets paint the sky just doesn't feel the same from your bedroom window. Experience the real deal at beachfront Riu Palace Pacifico, where families get the royal, all inclusive treatment. Beautiful architecture and design come together at this resort where guests enjoy relaxing on Flamingos Beach and spicing things up with a visit to downtown Puerto Vallarta for the lively nightlife.
Families soak up seaside sun on Flamingos Beach, where spectacular sunsets splash the sky with oranges and reds every day. Build sandcastles with the kids, or dive into the cool Pacific. If a pool is more your style, you'll love the in-water loungers at the resort's two pools. Go ahead and let the kids splash up a storm; the swim-up Marlin Bar has liquid love in the form of icy margaritas.
Chat up fellow guests on the terrace-solarium until it's time to eat at one of the resort's five restaurants. Try the tempting gourmet seafood fusion at Krystal, fresh sashimi at Kyoto or a thick filet mignon at La Toscana. Dance off your dinner or laugh through an evening show courtesy of the resort's jam-packed nightly entertainment lineup. Five bars round out the action nicely: Petit Pigalle has a fantastic martini menu, and the air hockey and pool tables in the 24-hr Sports Bar are a blast.
The fun is non-stop at Riu Palace Pacifico if activity is what you're after. Get a breeze in your sail on a windsurfer, or challenge the kids to a kayak race. Round up the group for an intense game of beach volleyball, or take it easy with a soothing body treatment at the resort's spa. To check out the facilities at Riu Vallarta and Riu Jalisco, sister resorts just two minutes away, drop the kids off for arts and crafts at the Kids Club, and start exploring.
Corral everyone after a day of excitement for quiet time on the balcony or terrace of the Junior Suite Ocean View which has everything you want, from a split-level living room to a hydro-massage tub and satellite TV!
