Another great Riu vacation
This was the fifth Riu I have stayed at and it did not disappoint. The staff was very attentive and did an excellent job making us feel welcome and seeing to our needs. The complex is flawlessly maintained, the food was all very fresh and wonderfully prepared. The management is constantly visible, talking with guests and overseeing the operation.

Would recommend, but wait for a renovation maybe.
Overall the place was great. The service was excellent. The grounds and beach were beautiful. The restaurants were good, though not exceptional. The service made up for the less than stellar food. Our only real complaint was a musty smell in the room and in some of the restaurants/lounges. The room's king bed was really two full beds pushed together. Not what we'd hoped for. Also there were plastic sheets under the linens which crinkled every time you moved or turned over. Noisy. Room was somewhat dated and the place could use an update to some of the common areas as well. I'd recommend it, but maybe wait to see if a renovation will be completed any time soon.
Everything was just perfect except for specialty restaurants. Food was ok but not overly tasty.
Swimming pool section didn't have jacuzzi in it nor were there much on the entertainment side there.
Shows were good but started a little too late and always started with kids fooling around at 945pm.

From the pictures, this hotel looks pretty far set back from the beach. Is that a fair assumption?7 answers

If walking for 5 minutes is far....not really! It's maybe 500 yards from the beautiful beach and gorgeous water which is worth it !!!
JaninaL
The beach is on the back side of the resort. Just so you understand....None of the rooms will have a view of the beach. You will have to walk out of your room and through the pool area to get to the beach. Its a BEAUTIFUL beach so you won't be disapointed.
Adorable
no hotel is on the beach about a 50foot walk from pool to ocean front
Mexicination
No the beach is with in a minute from the far end of the hotel. Also, you can walk to other Rui resorts...great location.
Spanglish
This hotel is not that far back from ocean. 1 minute walk from your rooms. You go by pools first then your right there. Very nice beach with plenty of chairs
Lincoln
Not at all. The beach is a one minute walk from the rooms. I've been to many other All Unclusive resorts and this one was the best.
Dcmd
Because of the size of the building. Some rooms are farther from the beach. Not far at all really. The beach is beautiful with all the palm trees providing shade from the hot Mexican sun in midday.

Lady Di
Most resorts have metal railings going into the pool, however, we are unable to guarantee as we do not have information on file regarding this specific matter.
MariaCC
Metal ladders, but on one side of the pool there is a built in bench along the side inside the pool and many older people used it as a step.
deena
No, access to the pool is by ladder, there are no graduated steps into the pool.

Riu Palace Mexico: Riviera Maya Beachfront, 5th Avenue Shopping and Nightlife
All work and no play is definitely the wrong recipe for a good time. Why not head to Playacar's resort area instead? Riu Palace Mexico in the Riviera Maya is a just reward for hard-working couples and tired families. A huge stretch of beachfront encourages rest and relaxation by day, and proximity to happening 5th Avenue means nightlife is just steps from your door.
Ever see those commercials with couples clinking Coronas in front of an unreal surf? Riu Palace Mexico and the Riviera Maya make you the star! The resort's stretch of sun-bleached sand gives kids the space to build sand forts while grown-ups soak up the sun. Cool down with margaritas from Las Conchas swim-up bar and a dip in the two pools. When hunger strikes, take your pick from five restaurants. For fine fusion, try Krystal's take on filet mignon. Miyagi serves fresh sushi, El Patio offers juicy tenderloin and La Bodega offers authentic Brazilian BBQ. Riu evening entertainment gets the whole family laughing. Check out flashy shows at Los Mariachis, then get the kids a sitter and shake it to the beat at La Pi?ata nightclub.
Party all night and play all day with all inclusive perks at Riu Palace. Riviera Maya is best enjoyed from the crystal surf. Just take out a windsurfer, catamaran, kayak or body board and see for yourself! If you need a little personal time, drop off the kids for hunting starfish and sand dollars at RiuLand and head to the nearby 18-hole golf course for a quiet game. If your golf swing still needs a little work, stop by Renova Spa for a Swedish massage and let the tension melt away.
Enjoy your day to the max before heading back to the air-conditioned Junior Suite where the comfy d?cor lets couples and families relax in style. Thirsty? Grab a cold one from the stocked mini bar and dress it up with shots from the awesome in-room liquor dispenser.
