Awesome resort

Very pleased with the RIU Macao. Rooms, staff, hotel grounds & especially the beach. Everything was amazing. The only thing that was a disappointment was the labeling of shellfish in most dishes & on the menu. My husband & I have a serve shellfish allergy & a lot of the dishes weren't label properly.

The hotel is more beautiful then it was 8 years ago. Bigger more happening. But the liquor they serve is gross. Didn't gave a good vodka until I got home. Stoli is not stoli, cheap trick. Plus JT husband and I both got stomach sick him there and he soon as we got home. The people, the staff all wonderful, very nice. Accommodating by all means. Two towel rule only applied to us few, others had two and four each. Left towels at pool and beach all day. But that's the rudeness of the guests.

Early March stay

Beach- awesome straight stretch. Waves-yes but swimmable, slightly colder due to being on the Atlantic side but clear blue at shore. We did have 2.5 rainy/cloudy days that were way more chilly than expected. There are vendors but they are not annoying/aggressive. Food- buffets are best out of the other 2 all inclusives we have been to. Steak house was good. Lobster was disappointing (so mushy). I did get sick days 3-5 (fever diarrhea cramps-awful) and I never get sick, but my husband (who has a horrible stomach) was fine. Just be careful with seafood, undercooked meat. If you like sushi Japanese restaurant has options. GOOD TO KNOW: There is no decent food available after 2200 (10pm) when restaurants close. Self serve nachos, fruit, and cheese sandwiches is literally it, even for room service. Room- outdated hot pink but air worked, stocked minifridge, housekeeping was good (didn't come till 3pm most days). Bed was comfortable. Atmosphere- staff is very friendly, it is not the party atmosphere- pretty much dead after 11 when the nightly show is over. It is true that it is mostly older couples (we are 23&25 maybe saw 10 other younger couples). Pools are nice, fun "animation" workers provide entertainment throughout the day. There is no jacuzzi/hot tub.

Pool with bar (there are 2 other pools) Beach right on resort

Mediocre -some good, some bad, averaged out.

It was a mostly just OK resort trip. The room, that you're only given one key to (real key with giant keychain) is older with a heavy new coat of paint, there are two extra hard double beds shoved together that are not comfortable for a couple to try to share. The air conditioning is non existent, you have control of a fan, but not the temperature, to blow in air from a building wide system that never really gets the damp, musty smell and feeling out of the room and there's no fans in the bathroom that just compounds the dank. The site is nice, but places around the resort regularly get a wafting of sewage that is held and treated there. There are a ton of choices at the buffet, all good, but the food is better at the specialty resturaunts. My only complaints about the resturaunts and bars is they didn't not have them all open when they were stated on the hotel pamphlet we got checking in and the drinks were watered down or completely devoid of alcohol half the time. There is some poolside entertainment staff that are mildly entertaining when you don't get the feeling they hate their jobs, but i'd warn people against some of the activities - not trained staff giving poor demonstrations of stretching followed by aerobics - and unskilled massages by girls texting with one hand while halfheartly waving their other hand over their clients. We didn't find any after dinner activity (1 show at 10pm) worth attending and I was surprised that they closed the pool before dinner for the evening. It was an okay trip to sit and relax for a few days, but i wouldn't return there, or give it high recommendations.
