Nice beach, great entertainment, awful food

The resort is a bit dated when walking in, and the front staff was friendly, but not very helpful or expeditious in checking you in (we were eager to get to the beach!). Our initial room was old looking with very cheesy magenta colored chairs...we upgraded at around $40 per night to a more modern room with a jacuzzi tub which was nice. The accommodations were very clean, but the bed was very uncomfortable. The fridge was stocked with beer (unfortunately we couldn't get Presidente, only coors light), water, tonic water, and soda. The beach was beautiful, but a tad bit crowded in this area. There's a cute caribbean street with lots of cute shops; some of the stores are way overpriced though so be careful. We ran out of sunscreen and had to pay $24 USD for a lotion bottle - ludicrous! The entertainment was really good. Every night we saw a different show and the entertainers were awesome. The gym is average, some good equiptment and on the larger side, but the weight room and aerobics are all together which felt weird. There are pool tables and games, but you have to pay for everything ($3 each game) and the tables/sticks are WORN OUT. RIU - please replace these tables - they were awful to play on. There's not much to do between lunch and dinner by way of activities or entertainment. My husband and I did kayaking which was fun and included as well as a catamaran tour that included snorkeling and a trip to the "natural pool." The snorkeling was nice but the natural pool was a waste of time. It was basically a shallow area in the ocean that was murky and greenish with a bunch of other boats/tours circled about, everyone drinking cheap alcohol, jumping around to dumb reggueton musi. The tour guide said drinks and snacks included...they had cheap alcohol and Lay's potato chips (really). I'm a vegetarian and the options were deplorable...they literally had no healthy food options and the menu was the same for every single meal. When I expressed my frsutration, they said they could make me a special plate...they made a plate with oily vegetable (lettuce, zuccini, carrots) and pieces of super soft tofu. The tofu wasn't cooked or seasoned or anything...literally right out of the box and cut sloppily. I would not recommend this place to vegans or vegetarians as the staff had very limited knowledge (they thought I had celiac disease or something....they couldnt' fathom that I am vegetarian by choice) and they were not very accommodating. The room service was pretty quick - my husband ordered a sandwich and some beer past midnight and it came in like 10 minutes. The bar service is quick, but the drinks were not well crafted...maybe I was expecting too much, but the brownish spearmint in my mojito wasn't exactly appetizing. All in all, great beach, entertainment, nice modern rooms, and good service, but the grounds (bars, games, etc.) were old and dated and the food options were awful.

Disappointed

Maid service was lacking, did not provide clean washcloths when needed. Had to go find someone. Room service was the worse ever. Everyone that answered the phone did not speak English, orders were consistently wrong. Did not have items on the menu. Food was excellent, staff very attentive, nightly shows entertaining

Good Value (Not good for Vegetarians)

We had a great time at this resort. I'll touch on some key points of what makes a good resort below: Food: So many great food options if you like seafood and meat! I was in heaven with all of the wonderful food. Lobster, calamari, steak etc. My girlfriend was not as she eats more vegetarian and none of the restaurants except for the buffet offer vegetarian options. Room: Very basic room. We had an upgraded one and it was plain, but we didn't spend much time in the room. Beach & Pools: Very nice beach, lots of room to walk up and down. You will get asked by multiple people to buy various things while walking the beach. Pools were clean and nice as well. Service: Some of the staff was excellent other staff was just okay. Never had a bad experience. Overall it was a great trip on a budget.

Cheap for cheap

I was hoping a super vacation but instead I get something just ok first at all the hotel was 30% reason it was to be close for renovations so non of the restaurant weren't open fully food was ok but I got mi own way to qualify it.for the price we paid we get far away room even hotel wasn't full we paid extra for room change. That was more aceptabke servers and front desk employees were helpful.an very cordial shine on that matter. Beach pool very nice except the day we leaving back looks that they were pushing us out cause of the closing not good experience .punta Cana very beautiful tour very enjoyable tk
