Fourth Stay marred by gastric poisoning.

This was our fourth consecutive annual visit to Riu Palace. We always love the location, the classic style of the building and the excellent staff who are all attentive and friendly. However, we both spent four of our eight days confined to our room with stomach problems. We had not eaten or drank anything outside the hotel. Curiously, we met a party of six who all had exactly the same problem and when we took the return shuttle to the airport, we met another couple with the same affliction. We will return next year but hope that the Palace has conducted a thorough review of their food preparation protocols and buffet food cold temperature maintenance and also reviewed the source of the water served in the restaurants and at the bars. The problem definitely originated in the hotel and lab work on our return to the States confirmed it was bacterial in origin and not an influenza type issue. Never had this problem in previous years and hope that next year's trip will not be ruined like this one was. Still love the place....but

Awesome vacation

The resort is taken care of very well. My husband and I really enjoyed the food and drinks. Anything you could want is offered at the buffet and Krystal's Restaurant was truly a great dining experience. Nick was our waiter and was fantastic!!!! The room was nice and always had the liquor and drinks stocked. I would go back to this resort in a heartbeat!!!

Worth every penny!!

Sadly Riu Palace Las Americas will be undergoing a complete makeover starting next week and from what I understand they will be modernizing the entire hotel. Unfortunately the old world design and details of the hotel is what makes it exceptionally beautiful. The lobby and grounds are gorgeous! The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent (except at the Japanese restaurant, terrible!) All of the other food options were really delicious (and I'm a bit of a food snob!). The beach was small and parts are rocky but that's just geography, it is a well maintained but simple beach. In short, if they weren't modernizing the hotel I would definitely go there again.

Disappointed with the food options

Riu Palace Las Americas Cancun has 7 restaurants to choose from but we were not impressed by any of them. The food looked like it has been sitting out for a while with a pool of grease beneath all the options. It was flavorless, cold, mushy, or made us sick. I guess that's what you get with an all inclusive hotel - quantity vs quality

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2016, all-inclusive everything and no reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

You're a seashell's throw away from the Cancun Hotel Zone's awesome - shops, eats and clubs.

The massages at the Renova Spa. They squeeze every ounce of stress out of you.

The free scuba lesson in the pool. Dive in. It'll be a blast.

The Jacuzzi in one of the pools and the swim-up bar. Plenty of ways you can make a splash.

The resort feels like a huge Spanish castle, and this is perfect. Here, you're beach royalty.

At Los Arcos, you can get both Italian and Brazilian tapas. Delish.

What We'd Change

While the beach isn't large, there's still plenty of places to work on your tan and enjoy your own stretch of Cancun's finest beaches.

Why You Should Go

It's just 12.5 miles from the airport so get ready to get your vacay on. Soon.

You have access to Riu Caribe & Riu Cancun - kinda like you get three resorts in one.

Karaoke happens at night so rest your pipes and get ready to serenade your adoring fans.

Release your inner adventurer and go windsurfing, canoeing and snorkeling.

Mayan ruins are near - the pyramids of Kukulhan in Chechen Itza. Bring some sturdy shoes.

You can rent a scooter/moped and tour all the epic beachiness of Cancun that's around you.
