Not a great value

I booked this resort for myself and two of my friends for a winter getaway. We specifically wanted an all-adult all-inclusive resort on the beach hoping we would receive better service and have more age-appropriate entertainment options. We had also heard that the resort had been renovated summer of 2016 and it had great reviews. Pros: The beach was white limestone sand and the water was crystal clear. By far the best beach out of the surrounding resorts we walked to. There are also several docks and underwater barriers that attract all kinds of beautiful fish for snorkeling. The newly renovated grounds and exterior were very attractive. Cons: I have been to many all-inclusive resorts and even several Riu's and this one was by far the most disappointing. We even went over our budget thinking it would be worth it. Food: The food was almost inedible. We tried almost all of the restaurants and buffet options and mostly stuck with the chips and guacamole. I would say it was definitely below average as far as quality. Entertainment/service: I also felt that the staff did the bare minimum as far as service and entertainment. They most certainly did not go out of their way to help or serve you drinks and food pool or beach side. The entertainment was so horrible every night that people either didn't show or walked out. Rooms: We expected 2 full or queen-sized beds and a pull out couch for the 3 of us traveling together. The two beds were combined and when we went to pull out the bed in the couch, rust and crust came off of the frame and mattress. Needless to say, we did not use the couch! All 3 of us slept in the big bed for 5 nights, which was roomy, but very uncomfortable bedding. After seeing the couch quality we were afraid what our mattresses looked like. Obviously the rooms were not included in the renovation, as confirmed by several other fellow guests. Pools: There are 3 pools. The largest in the middle did not receive sun for a good portion of the day, so was not often busy. The pool with the swim-up bar was the most used, but was not very large and the pool entertainment was juvenile and hardly anyone participated. The third pool looked like it should be a large hot tub, but was cold and I never once saw anyone in it. We were also told that during the renovation, they removed the outdoor Jacuzzi and only had the two small ones inside of the spa, which were indoors with no view and the pumps were broken so neither were hot. One day we started to get in the lukewarm water and saw chunks of something white floating and immediately got out. I was almost embarrassed that this was the first all-inclusive experience for both of my friends. They never want to go to another all-inclusive resort now. Definitely not worth the money!

Incredible trip!!

I must say this was the best trip I ever took everything was five star from the time I got off the plane until the time I left. The food was sooo good the room was first class all the way and everyone was so nice they made me feel better than home. I plan to take this trip again and by all means I'll use the same company cheep Caribbean.I will also stay at the Riu Palace on my next visit and every visit after that. Thank you for a wonderful vacation the only thing could have made it better is if I had cane with a woman, and even traveling solo like I did this time was absolutely incredible. See you next year same time.

Watch out for staff !!

Food was ok but ran out of Wine, Cabernet for two days, witch we drink with meals! The staff at next door hotel was nice to give a bottle for our dinner. When waiting to be seated a staffer in black shirt came up to me and said he was the boss! You can not have this wine. I told it was gift and your hotel ran out of it! He wanted to fight that they do. It serve this wine! I told him they serve first two days and I'm going drink it with my meal! Then he said it was glass. I said so everyone is with a glass of wine or beer! Then I told him to leave me alone! This guy got in face while I'm on vacation and feel he was showing off in front of staff! He was trying to fight with me and I was in a great mood until this happen! Also other people their did not like this or did my wife! Staffer who walks over and cause a very tense time is not what I think should happen on vacation! Management needs to address to staff that we do not come that they will not have a job! One bad staff makes bad for everyone! Will not go back to this place at all! Staff is not to be trusted!!!!!

Great deal

The Riu Palace Las Americas is an amazing hotel. It is super clean the rooms are amazing, the views are spectacular. The grounds are well-kept, and there is always plenty of chairs to be found even if you are not out early in the morning. The staff is very friendly and the food is very good. The only thing they can improve on is the desserts. We loved it and we would go back.

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2016, all-inclusive everything and no reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

You're a seashell's throw away from the Cancun Hotel Zone's awesome - shops, eats and clubs.

The massages at the Renova Spa. They squeeze every ounce of stress out of you.

The free scuba lesson in the pool. Dive in. It'll be a blast.

The Jacuzzi in one of the pools and the swim-up bar. Plenty of ways you can make a splash.

The resort feels like a huge Spanish castle, and this is perfect. Here, you're beach royalty.

At Los Arcos, you can get both Italian and Brazilian tapas. Delish.

What We'd Change

While the beach isn't large, there's still plenty of places to work on your tan and enjoy your own stretch of Cancun's finest beaches.

Why You Should Go

It's just 12.5 miles from the airport so get ready to get your vacay on. Soon.

You have access to Riu Caribe & Riu Cancun - kinda like you get three resorts in one.

Karaoke happens at night so rest your pipes and get ready to serenade your adoring fans.

Release your inner adventurer and go windsurfing, canoeing and snorkeling.

Mayan ruins are near - the pyramids of Kukulhan in Chechen Itza. Bring some sturdy shoes.

You can rent a scooter/moped and tour all the epic beachiness of Cancun that's around you.
