Only Average

We just recently went to cancun and decided to stay here because of the consistent 4 to 4.5 ratings on various sites. However I would not rate this place higher than a 3. Both my wife and I are easy going people so it really takes something special to make me post an average or negative review. The good: For us the good was the entertainment, the staff and close proximity of the hotel to nearby shopping, clubs and dining and finally the building itself. The entertainment, both during the day at the pool, and at night at the outdoor bar area were great and really fun. The staff members were also amazing. They were kind, attentive and simply fun people. Also for anyone who wants to be in downtown cancun and within walking distance to clubs and restaurants, this hotel is located in a prime area. Last but not least the property is really beautiful looking. Another thing I want to mention is that some people have reviewed saying the beach is small but I found it to be perfect. We really enjoyed the beach and the ocean there. The bad: The smell, the food and the beds. There is a moldy smell in your room and please don't turn on the shower if you don't want to smell sewage. Very disgusting smell. The food was below average to both my wife and I. The best food was from the buffet, which was only average and the specialty restaurants were nothing special. I ordered lamb from the Italian restaurant and it was not good at all; Red snapper from the Mexican restaurant and it was flavorless. Felt like I was eating rubber. And the steak house was average. The beds are the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept on. I didn't get one good night sleep the whole time. They are very firm and the sheets are always damp. At one point I thought I had brought sand with me back from the beach when I was laying on the sheets but it turns out it was just the sheets. Did we enjoy our stay? Yes, but primarily because of the fun staff and day time activities at the pool. Would we come back or recommend our friends to stay here? Nope.

Should have booked a cheaper option...

Sushi was horrible.... food in general was not impressive, except for the poolside bbq. Bed was rock hard. Pillows were worn out. Breakfast meats were grotesquely greasey. People were really nice. Good liquor selection.

nice if you want a quiet couples get away

the hotel is beautiful , service is on key,, stay away from buffet,, restaurants are very good.. great wine selection , not so good with top notch alcohol .. not much for entertainment at night,, but if you want a low key, quiet , romantic get away, this is your place, beach is beautiful , rooms are nice!! and service is pleasant , we made the mistake of goin during spring break time,, there policy is no spring break college students,, but some slipped through the cracks.. overall nice place,, but if you want excitement this isn't the place for you!!

March stay.

Solid 3 star resort. I thought the hotel was beautiful- our room 560 had a wrap around balcony and was renovated recently. We were told originally we had a street facing view but a few winks & a twenty took care of that. No fan in the bathroom or shower seat area- and bring your own blow dryer as theirs was horrible. There are 3 pools all nice but not heated. It was windy the first couple of days and the water was freezing. I would think one of the smaller would be heated. That was a bummer- also drink service was spotty on the beach and by the main pool- came around maybe once on hour. Beach is small but nice- I asked for an umbrella and the guy brought it down for me. Tipping a few bucks gets you a LONG way at this resort. Abu at the lounge bar had my drink ready for me as soon as he saw me. I think they put tequila in every drink- I actually started ordering my drink " vodka no tequila & sodas please". Wine is horrible-champagne is horrible and I hope you like Mexican beer. Though across the street from the hotel you can get Bud lights for $2.25 a peice! Spa across the street was wonderful too- the hotels was pricey & not impressive so we moved on- great move- excellent facial. There is also a mall right down the street to buy souvenirs. Food is bad... seriously bad. The breakfast & lunch buffets had decent food and they had a BBQ by the pool which was also good but the restaurants are bad. Black & white is the lesser of the evils. If you try the Italian one go for a salad and the lamb. No reservations is great- first come first serve & they have beepers. The service people really work hard- they were cleaning all day and they do a great job- just by the pool and in the lounge and theater they need more people. Entertainment is typical resort stuff- cheesy shows at night but your also 1/2 a mile away from all the clubs if you want to go out. They need to stop letting people put towels down and leaving- SO many good spots are taken and the people sometimes never come back! All in all I had a super good vacation here- but I enjoy good food & wine and would have liked a warm pool so I wouldn't go back.

Abu March stay.

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2016, all-inclusive everything and no reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

You're a seashell's throw away from the Cancun Hotel Zone's awesome - shops, eats and clubs.

The massages at the Renova Spa. They squeeze every ounce of stress out of you.

The free scuba lesson in the pool. Dive in. It'll be a blast.

The Jacuzzi in one of the pools and the swim-up bar. Plenty of ways you can make a splash.

The resort feels like a huge Spanish castle, and this is perfect. Here, you're beach royalty.

At Los Arcos, you can get both Italian and Brazilian tapas. Delish.

What We'd Change

While the beach isn't large, there's still plenty of places to work on your tan and enjoy your own stretch of Cancun's finest beaches.

Why You Should Go

It's just 12.5 miles from the airport so get ready to get your vacay on. Soon.

You have access to Riu Caribe & Riu Cancun - kinda like you get three resorts in one.

Karaoke happens at night so rest your pipes and get ready to serenade your adoring fans.

Release your inner adventurer and go windsurfing, canoeing and snorkeling.

Mayan ruins are near - the pyramids of Kukulhan in Chechen Itza. Bring some sturdy shoes.

You can rent a scooter/moped and tour all the epic beachiness of Cancun that's around you.
