Money well spent but, minor improvements needed

Prior to purchasing this vacation I did a lot of research and felt this was going to be a great vacation for my girlfriend (27) and I (34). It was definitely worth the money and we are glad to have had this experience. Pro's: - Employees and service at the resort were top notch. They always made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. - Cheap Caribbean was great, They had a shuttle scheduled for us when we arrived to the airport and one scheduled when we left. They were fully prepared for our visit and had a representative meet with us to review the weeks schedule. Note: taxi drivers are pushy and will charge to drive you to your hotel, do not take their offer as you should have a shuttle scheduled. - The Cheap Caribbean representative reviewed different activities available during out visit. We knew we wanted to do a couple of activities so we were prepared to pay. Well worth the money. We weren't sure how we would find actives so it was so nice that they had pamphlets and reviewed pricing with us. Our rep was very honest and was not pushy. - Facilities were clean and maintained daily. - Resort was very close to the airport which was really nice after a long and exhausting flight. - Once you have everything booked with Cheap Caribbean (hotel, flight, activities) you literally don't have to worry about a thing. They will give you all the info you need, scheduled times, maps, transportation, etc. Con's: - There was a ton of food to choose from but a majority of it was cooked with lots of oil and butter which was hard to eat. In general we are healthy eaters but do enjoy splurging on food so we are not crazy. However, there was plenty of fruit and it was very fresh. The bread was very good as well. - The lighting in the room was horrible. If you are a girl that likes to get ready and put on makeup for a night out, then you will probably have a hard time getting ready in the room. The lighting was dark and very hard to apply makeup (for my girlfriend) she complained a lot. - The music was pretty bad. They played a lot of popular American music from the mid 90's - early 2000's. The music was all infused with Jamaican beats which was really boring, cheesy and sounded like kid's bop. Changing the music would have made our experience so much better and would liven the place up. Notes: - Bring small bills for tipping - Adults only hotel. Mostly everyone is there as a couple, many older couples so if you are looking for night life and dancing this is not the resort for you. - If you are looking to relax at the beach and poolside all day then this is a good resort to do so. If you want a little more action, you should plan to pay for outside activities/tours. - This is a great place to do additional activities because they take care of transportation and keep good track of you. - Bring water shoes and a plastic bag if you do any water activities otherwise you'll have to buy water shoes there.

Awesome Resort

Resort was just like the pictures. Service was great, food was delicious, beach was wonderful. I would go back to this resort. One minor detail: a la carte restaurant service was great but in both steak and Italian restaurants, we had to wait a nice amount of time for our entrees. This minor issue does not cancel out our resort experience. Highly recommend!!

The RIU

The resort is very posh and stylish. The resort reminds me of Miami Vice for us older folks and MCIS for the younger generation. A hotel you see on t.v. And wish you were there. It is really nice, but being a frequent flyer to Jamaican and experiencing a few different all inclusive, I can't give it all 5 pineapples. A few areas need improving, such as having rinse showers at both ends of the beach and in the middle. After being in the ocean all day, you want to rinse the salt before you head back to your room, I could only find 1 beach shower to wash off the sand before heading back to my room. Service was pretty good most of the time, I had to chase down the drink guy a few times, no biggie but red flag service would be nice. Excursions are extra, unlike some all-inclusive resorts, so be prepared to pay $59 for the catamaran cruise, and 30 to 40 for shopping trips. You can walk to the shops, if your not afraid. I did enjoy the use of the Riu sister resorts on each side. The Reggae, a sister resort, has the best jerk chicken and is more lively with music. The food was tasty with a variety of different items. Gentlemen, please bring a pair of slacks because you will have to dress for certain restaurants. The rules and regulations at the resort are strictly enforced, so be prepared for security if you break the rules. It really is a good thing to keep the rules enforced. Overall I had a nice time, I would like to say thank you Joelle for honoring my husband request for a lovwe level room, that Cheap Caribbean didn't mention. We had a good time, with plenty of tropical drinks, jerk chicken, and a gorgeous beach to enjoy.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

It's surrounded by fringy palms and overlooks the luscious, soul-stirring aquamarine Mahoe Bay.

The Renova spa next door (@Riu Montego Bay) where you can kick your stress to the sandy curb.

The beach is protected by a reef so the water is calm & delicious for snorkeling and swimming.

The ocean breezes and crazy beautiful sunsets - it's more than Bucket List worthy.

World-class golf is near - soaking in the sun while you play a round is the best. Ever.

What We'd Change

For lunch, you can dine at either Montego Bay or Seaside, but if you're wanting more choices, you'll get to enjoy the restaurants and activities at the sister resort, Riu Montego Bay, which is next door.

Why You Should Go

The airport is just 1.7 miles away. Your rockin', adults-only vacay will begin lickety-split.

You can head over to the sister resort, Riu Montego Bay, for more places to get your grub on.

Saddle up and get ready - horseback riding is near. You have to do this.

Attention water babies: check out the catamarans, kayaking & windsurfing.

You can play a set (or two) of tennis or get in some beach volleyball. Game on.
