Great experience

While I have been on cruises, this was my time at an all inclusive and I enjoyed it immensely. The resort is clean and very impressive looking. The beach is amazing and the item I am still telling my friends about. I took walks up and down the beach and was able to see other resorts from that perspective. What I saw at a number of other resorts was lounge chairs lined up edge to edge with small path ways to walk through and shade was provided by a handful of cabanas. The entire family of Riu resorts (all next to each other on the beach) was so much different. Instead of cabanas for shade there are palm trees scattered along the beach. Enough to provide good shade but not so many that it is difficult to get through. Lots of rooms between lounge chairs, typically arranged in bunches that people had pulled together, then 10 feet or so to the next bunch. As a result I never felt crowded. For the 8 days we were there only one day we couldn't find a lounge chair immediately, and that time it took less than 10 minutes. Food was decent at the buffet, and good at the restaurants. There was one restaurant I didn't care for the food but that was my preference/taste more than the food itself. The pool was great but we were in teh VIP section so that was a large contributor. Didn't spend any time at the general pool so can't comment on that. The only complaints I have were two items related to service. The day we arrived I noted the bottle of scotch in the room was empty. They removed the empty bottle quickly but it took 6 days for the replacement to arrive, that was after several calls. On the other hand, we had a problem with the TV and that was replaced within an hour. The other service item is simply my preference of non alcoholic drink (iced tea) was not readily available. Not an issue on its own as usually they would bring it for me. But a few times the staff insisted they could not bring me iced tea even though they had other days. As a side note, the red wine was pretty sub par, go with other drinks instead. Overall a great experience and I have recommended it to friends.

What's to Love

All-inclusive everything: the cocktails, the grub, the utter awesomeness of it all.

The sandsational Arena Gorda Beach - it's an escape-haven we never want to leave.

The vibrant villas that are surrounded by lush tropical gardens. Swoon.

The spa that wrings out all the real life gunk from your weary bod. It's heaven.

Those handy, dandy liquor dispensers in the room. Cocktails, anyone?

Kids club with a dedicated pool and activities that keep them entertained while you chill.

World-class golf is near - soaking in the sun while you play a round is the best. Ever.

Caribbean street - all the fun shops where you can feed your shopping addiction.

What We'd Change

Lounge chairs on Arena Gorda beach are hard to come by, so be sure to show up early to make sure you get a good spot near the water.

Why You Should Go

The airport is just 1.7 miles away. Can you hear those ice cubes in your cocktail clinking?

Soana Island excursion is a must - it's a secluded slice of paradise.

At night you can hit the shows and live music, dance at Pacha, or go the casino.

It's part of a bigger Riu complex where the party is always on. Get gussied up and go for it.

There's oceans of water sports - scuba, snorkeling, jet skis, windsurfing, kayaking. And more.

On land, there's tennis, jogging and a fitness center where you can burn off those vacay desserts.

You can ride horses at Caribbean Cachondeo, or hang with the friendly sharks at the Marinarium.

Water park with slides, tobogans, kids pool, sun terrace and snack bar.
