Could't Have Had a Better Experience

I am 31 an my girlfriend is 29 and we just got back from the Riu Palace Aruba and had our best vacation to date. We frequent the Caribbean somewhat often and were pleased with everything from the resort, to the service, to the food. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, the resort had a lot of great dining options and we were more than happy and satisfied for each meal. The best part of the resort is the pool. Plenty of room and you really can't beat the swimup bar. You also have the ability to walk the boardwalk and go to other restaurants, bars, and partake in the water activities. So-if you're traveling with that one person who is apprehensive because they 'don't want to sit at the beach all day', then this place would be for you because of the many options surrounding you. Typically I like to travel to new spots and experience as much as possible, however the Riu has made that extremely difficult as I can't see us going anywhere else at least in the near future.

Wonderful

The Riu was wonderful - everything that you would want and expect in a Caribbean resort! The room was great, pools and beach phenomenal, with drinks and entertainment. The location was great too -right next to other resorts and across the street from shopping and dining. Everyone at the hotel and on the island was so happy and helpful. The only things I would critique would be food and I never saw any free water or beach activities. It was nice to have so many food options but the food was so tiered a tad disappointing or just okay. I would recommend trying the Japanese and Fusion/Gourmet places as they were the best. We loved our stay here and can't wait to come back. 5 days and 4 nights wasn't quite long enough, with travel time. You would definitely not regret staying here!!!

Gotta Luv that One Happy Island

We have stayed with Riu before in other locations so we knew the property would be well maintained and the rooms and common areas would be immaculate and they were. The disappointment for us was with the food. The food is presented so very well but the taste is a different story. Very Bland tasting food overall. I asked the Restaurant Manager about wait times for the steak house and he said there are over thirteen hundred guests and we serve only eighty in the restaurant and it fills up immediately after opening so make your plans accordingly. Wow! When we did go to the steak house the food was good but we noticed that the full restaurant is not utilized they section off so only eighty seats are available. That is odd to me when they know they are causing difficulty for customers to dine there . FYI, The steak house is an outdoor non a/c facility. We actually walked up the street and ate some nights. A short walk up the road will take you to many fine restaurants and shopping. We decided our next trip we would stay at a non all inclusive and eat at the many options available there. So Riu is a great Hotel on a great beach in Aruba and we enjoyed the stay very much with only one complaint around food choices. The worst part of our vacation was the absolute nightmare of leaving the place via the airport. We travel a lot and this is the worst experience we have ever encountered. Even though we had TSA Precheck it means nothing at this airport and not only will you go through the process of removing and scanning everything like shoes and belts but here you will do that process twice. We barely made our plane after a three hour cattle train through the facility. We were so aggravated with this entire process that we may only see Aruba again by ship.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Palm Beach is one of Caribbean's best beaches - the sands are so soft, the waves so gentle. It's paradise.

At the main pool, the hot spot is close to the swim-up bar. Lots of mixing and mingling and music.

The staff is awe-mazing, making sure everything is taken care of just for you. You want for nothing here.

Martini drinker? Pull up a seat at the lobby bar. The Espresso Martinis here are legendary.

The ocean waters couldn't be better for whatever water-adventure you're heart desires. Snorkel, anyone?

What We'd Change

Aruba's white sands and calm waters will be your favorite, but get there early to get the best seat.

Why You Should Go

You're in a prime location here and as one of the most tourist-friendly islands, you'll fall in love.

Champagne bubbly awaits you once you arrive. Cheers! Vacay starts now.

Rent a bicycle and you can tour the island at your own speed. Downtown is full of shopping & local flavors.

Picture-worthy sunsets. Grab a cocktail and perch yourself along the shores. It's worth it.

Daily bus service runs up and down the hotel strip. Bonus part: cost is around $2.50.

Some of the best snorkeling and diving in the area - coral-encrusted shipwrecked Antilla sits underwater.
