Girls Trip

This was my second time staying at the Riu and I really enjoyed it. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the least popular restaurant was the only restaurant open until 2:00a. The other thing was; the biggest pool had the most children there and they would splash me and there were cups I would step on in the pool because the children would be playing with them. Besides that it was a pleasant stay. The service was excellent and they were very very friendly even the guest at the resort were nice.

Turned out to be a great vacation

This resort is actually pretty great, although there are definitely some things that took away from the experience. One being the ride from the airport to the resort, it was almost two hours it seemed and after flying you definitely don't feel like dealing with that. However that's nothing you can help. When we first pulled up it wasn't the nicest looking compared to some of the others we dropped others off at. But u learned never to judge a book by its cover. I was disappointed at how they didn't serve drinks to you when you walked in, you had to go and pour it yourself which takes away from that first arrival at a tropical resort experience you get at other places. Also they did this weird thing where you left your luggge at the front and I wasn't the most comfortable with that. So there were issues right off the bat at check in, they couldn't find our reservation. We were then turned to the customer service table which took about an hour to resolve although they young man that helped us did a great job of keeping us calm and reassured us it would get worked out. Apparently this issue happened a lot to others because as we stayed longer we saw people sitting at that table more and more. I just thought that was about ridiculous. After finally getting all of that taken care of we felt more relaxed. The beach was beautiful, the pools were nice but got closed down many times due to throw up and drinks being spilled. The food was the best part of the resort. Entertainment wasn't the best, it didn't catch my attention enough to want to stick around for it. There was also an issue with the excursion we had scheduled. Although that has nothing to do with the resort, we ended up missing the bus on the day we were supposed to go but they accommodated us to go on the next day and it worked out great. Most staff was very friendly and helpful, some clearly didn't want to be bothered. Overall it's a great resort, I would probably not come back. Oh and wifi is only for two devices. So don't plan on connecting your phone, iPad, and laptop especially if you are not alone.

Best family vacation

We had the most amazing family vacation in Ocho Rois. We planned our destination wedding here. We had 52 wedding guest and the RIU was great in handling all the details. I would definitely recommend planning a vacation here and your wedding. Keisha (our wedding coordinator) was awesome. She helped me plan almost everything before we arrived. We met once, just days before the wedding and ever thing came out perfectly. It was so nice to relax and enjoy time with our family and friends without feeling stressed about wedding planning. The resort itself was great. We love the beach, pools, dinning. We took a snorkeling catamaran trip and went out to blue hole. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. We'd like to visit the Club Hotel RIU Ocho Rios again for sure!

Great but they overbooked

They overbooked my room and had to be placed at another resort for two which was such an inconvenience but overall the resort was nice. The parties were great. Drinks and food was okay. I would book there again but I would call in advance to confirm my reservation.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

There's Red Stripe Beer in the fridge. Every. Day.

The stress-ousting massages and treatments at the Renova Spa. Swoon.

The Jerk Chicken Hut on the beach. You'll be jammin' here ofter. Probably daily.

The phrase you hear everywhere, "No problem, Mon." Go ahead and start practicing.

The epic snorkeling that's right on the beach. Brightly colored fish will make your underwater pics dazzle.

Dunn's River Falls and swimming with the dolphins - close by and always touristy fun.

What We'd Change

The drive to the resort will take about an hour, but once you step foot onto the resort grounds, you'll be in love.

Why You Should Go

It's so worth it to upgrade to the Deluxe Wing - concierge service 24/7.

You can get a free introductory to scuba lesson in the pool. Dive in!

There are water sports out the wazoo - windsurfing, kayaking and snorkeling.

On land, you can play tennis, volleyball and take an aerobics class.

The entertainment team blows it out, starting with the nightly reggae, steel drums & chill beats.

The botanical gardens of Canbrook aren't your average "flower forest." It's uber lush.
