Not as great as I expected

The experience was average. We thought we would have better accommodations but the room was almost a mile from the elevator. My wife has "bad" hips. They hurt her when she walks a lot. The room was barely average. The shower was better than the room itself. I was told there would be liquor in the room. Granted, there was some, but the Vodka, that I like to drink, had one drink in the bottle, and when I called to notify the front desk, it took them two (2) days to replenish it. By that time I already purchased my own from the liquor store on the street, so there was no need to use the one in the room. The Front Desk person who checked us in was not very accommodating, at check-in nor during check-out. When it was time to check out, we asked to have a "belhop" come to our room to assist with taking our luggage to the fron. After waiting 30 minutes, we had to take our luggage by ourselves to the front of the hotel. The best part of our stay was the food in the hotel. They have excellent varieties of food from which to choose. We were pleasantly surprised.

I enjoyed everything about the resort except for the hotel room. I was in the main building and every room had an old television and hard bed. The rooms need some updating. Plus I didn't like the one key per room. This was very inconvenient at night when your room mate wanted to retire back to the room before you.

Lacks Appeal

So first thing first, this resort does not look like the pictures on the outside. You will see pink and purple buildings when you arrive, don't be alarmed you are at the right place. It is not the lovely while coloring shown on the pictures. My husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary and overall it was "ok". I don't believe we will ever stay at this resort again. Pros- 1. The food was great!!!! Had a variety and there was something always available. 2. Entertainment was great. Although slightly cheesy, the entertainment was interesting. I always managed to smile. 3. The BARS were super!!!!! You will have to try a "Baby Maker" Cons- 1. The pools close a 6pm. We were really disappointed in this. The sun was not even down. 2. The rooms are outdated. We actually had a box tv. I was not comfortable just hanging out in the room because I was not as inviting as the pictures. 3. NO HOT WATER.... We experienced not having hot water 2 days in a row. We had to take a cold shower. And the shower head fell off. 4. There is a deluxe side of the resort that's has more food options. We were not offered to upgrade either. I was sad to hear this as I would have.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive tropical oasis - lush rolling hills and an aahh-mazing, outta-this-world beach.

There's Red Stripe Beer in the fridge. Every. Day.

The stress-ousting massages and treatments at the Renova Spa. Swoon.

The Jerk Chicken Hut on the beach. You'll be jammin' here ofter. Probably daily.

The phrase you hear everywhere, "No problem, Mon." Go ahead and start practicing.

The epic snorkeling that's right on the beach. Brightly colored fish will make your underwater pics dazzle.

Dunn's River Falls and swimming with the dolphins - close by and always touristy fun.

What We'd Change

Book early if you want to eat at a restaurant that needs reservations, or face a long wait. (But hey, that's a sure sign of good food!)

Why You Should Go

The airport is about 62 miles away, but the drive through the lush hills is a stunner.

It's so worth it to upgrade to the Deluxe Wing - concierge service 24/7.

You can get a free introductory to scuba lesson in the pool. Dive in!

There are water sports out the wazoo - windsurfing, kayaking and snorkeling.

On land, you can play tennis, volleyball and take an aerobics class.

The entertainment team blows it out, starting with the nightly reggae, steel drums & chill beats.

The botanical gardens of Canbrook aren't your average "flower forest." It's uber lush.
