Good if on a Budget

The resort was very nice. Clean, well kept, etc. The service was very good. Staff was friendly and helpful. We especially liked Carlos at the front check in desk and Barbara in the dining room. My negatives would be the cab drivers. When the front desk calls a cab for you the price they quote you at the front desk and what the cab drivers charge are NOT the same, even though the desk uses a price sheet provided by the cab company. When we spoke to the front desk about this, they did not care and stated that they are not affiliated with the cab company and have no control over that. Even though its the company stationed on site. Lesson: always ask the cab driver how much they are charging and always pay the cab ride in pesos. They charge their own exchange rate with is 10-12 when the actual exchange rate is over 18. We also stopped tipping the cab drivers since they are already padding the fare. The resort was great. I didn't like that they claimed to have an adult pool because they do not. They allow children and families in what is marked as the adult pool. If it's not going to be an adult pool, don't advertise an adult pool. The food was pretty good, better than other all inclusive resorts we have stayed. Didn't have a great experience at the Steak House but the Mexican restaurant was good. We didn't go to the Asian or Italian restaurants. It would be great for families or people on a budget. We probably would not stay there again only because it was a little further away from the things we like to do. I would recommend it to a friend, especially if you just plan on staying at the resort. The beach could have been kept a little better groomed but that's ok.

Good enough for the price

Not a bad place if you are looking to get away and don't want to spend lots of money..food ok and the specialty dining is the exact same as the buffets so don't get excited...plus side you don't have to do the whole "reservations" thing to get to the specialty dining...fyi this is the only RIU with a Dance Club so the other people from the other resorts come over to party and I do mean PARTY! I know because there was a lot of screaming and yelling in the halls and elsewhere in the resort and it travels well in concrete at 3am LOL...The folks that work there are fantastic and were always very nice...the pool was pretty dirty, not sure anyone actually cleans it and if you go know that there are lots of kids so if you have kids that is a good thing, if you are looking for more adult relaxation this is not the place. Beach was nice and easily accessible but you should not try snorkeling at this spot or swimming as the surf was pretty rough every day we were there. Overall it's not a bad deal if you are just trying to get away.

My horrible experience @ Rui Jalisco

My coworker and I were so excited about our vacation to Riu Jalisco Nuevo Vallarta. First off, we arrived and our room had no AC and it was extremely HOT! we called for an Engineer to come and repair the AC and it worked only for a day so we called the following day, The AC wasn't blowing out consistent air. Day two our safe in the room was broke, the hotel staff came several times on that day to fix the safe but no luck. We called down to the front desk and asked to be moved. We were moved to another location and it was worst no AC again, NO WATER! my roommate went to go shower and the water went out while in the middle of her shower! I call the front desk and the Rep. said" The pipes are broke we are fixing it"! it took hours before the water was back on! by this time I was FED UP! and call the CheapCaribbean to move our location they moved us however, WE had to Pay and extra FEE! of $132 dollars, that was very upsetting. I feel CheapCaribbean should have paid for the move and not charged us any extra money for all of our INCONVENIENCES! I spent most of my vacation on the phone with CheapCaribbean explaining how unhappy we were and with our hotel arrangements made by them at this hotel. I would not reccommand you to stay at this hotel! The food isn't worth talking about it was terrible! We went to Walmart and brought snacks, water, and lunch meat the few days we were here. The beach was really nice and the pool was nice also. I would not choose this hotel, do your homework before you choose this location.

Sad Eyes

We had search high hopes for this hotel. There were a few problems. The phones in the rooms could not connect to customer service. There was an electrical fire while we were here. The neighbors were very noisy and woke us up at 3 AM. We complain to customer service about the noisy neighbors and they said they would see insecurity. But we never saw security since we've been here. Two of the elevators were broken and to move to other levels you had to take stairs. During the night shows, there was very little English interpretations. The Michael Jackson show was super excellent. The Caribbean ship was excellent. The city tour bus was great. The zip lining activity was great.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The Spanish-style resort with Moorish flourishes, surrounded by palm groves and the Pacific.

The liquor dispensers in the rooms. It's a party. Just add people.

RiuLand - supervised fun for the little ones while you savor that beachtastic drink by the teal waves.

The majestic Sierra Madres that hug Banderas Bay, which frame the soul-stirring sunsets.

Stress-smashing massages in open-air palapas, facials and Henna tattoos you can get at the spa.

The championship golf course that's near and waiting for your A game.

The nearby Marieta Islands with the hidden beach, a natural wonder that'll blow your hair back.

What We'd Change

Since it's located in Nuevo Vallarta, it's a bit of a drive to the shopping and sights in downtown Puerto Vallarta. But most families never want to leave the all-inclusive perks at Riu Jalisco.

Why You Should Go

The airport is 10 miles from the airport. Your vacay is so near you'll be able to taste it.

Frolicking at the dolphinarium in Banderas Bay is a great option for a non-beach day.

The Malecon, a promenade with beautiful sculpture, is near and ready for your oohing/awing.

There's wave after wave of water sports: body boarding, kayaking, catamarans, and more.

The boat trip to Yelapa, an epic, beachy paradise you can access by boat, is a must-do.

For a fee, you can hop on horses and/or bikes to explore the exotic, tropical terrain.

The traditional village of Bucerias is near and filled with craft markets for your sourveniring.
