Sub-par experience

My husband and I have not been on an adult only vacation in over 7 years so really, we enjoyed each other and had a beautiful beach for 5 days so we had a great time because of that. With that said, the actual hotel itself was average and we certainly would not come back specifically bc of the experience we had with the hotel. The food was absolutely nothing great. It was edible, but I didn't have to worry about gaining weight on vacation bc we didn't eat much or go back for seconds bc it was not great. Upon checking in, they have us two room keys and two towel keys. They never told us up front that if we lost a key, we would be charged. Well, my husband lost his room key in the ocean bc it was in his pocket and when we went to check out, they hit us with a 300 peso charge bc of that. Not a huge deal, but, it would have been nice if that was communicated before hand. The actual rooms were decent but if you reserve a room with a king bed, they push two mattresses together to make that king bed so we had a big crack in between us while sleeping. The room never fully got cold enough to where we were comfortable. There was always a level of sweating g going on, even in our room. The beach and pool were beautiful and fantastic. We had a wonderful and relaxing time but if and when we do come back, we won't stay here. We will try something different and maybe with better reviews of food and service.

Best Purchase Ever

It was our first time in Mexico! It was an amazing trip. We took out 16 month old baby with us and he had the time of his life. Everyone was very nice, the service was 5 star. The food and the drinks were average.

Kids zone

Went on this trip For a wedding anniversary. The hotel staff was nice did not speak very much English but were helpful. The buffet food was OK the restaurants buffets are OK the after hour food at the sports bar was a joke, terrible. The bartenders were great never have to wait long to get a drink. We wish they had service at the beach. This is a family kid resort it seems like they do put a lot of time and effort into the children and there is children everywhere. Could not get away from screaming children in the hallways all hours of the night everywhere during the day. If you want to go to have a quiet location or to get away from the sounds of daycare and I would not recommend this place. Screaming kids all hours of the night. We had constant music playing extremely loud outside, During the day and until about 12 almost every night. It was not from the hotel clubs. The sister hotels were nice and we spent most of the hotel time there. If you want to go to resort that's more like a giant daycare then this is for you. If you want to go somewhere that has a little more space and not so daycare busy then I would recommend somewhere else

Good weekend trip

Room was a little dirty when we first arrived, after tipping the maid the first day it got better. Pool was also a little dirty all three days we were there, lots of "floaties" of things we weren't sure of. Food was average, buffet style breakfast and lunch were alright, nothing to write home about. The sit down dinners were very good, I would recommend the Steakhouse next to the beach and the Italian restaurant. Overall, for the value we paid and the type of weekend we wanted, which was to sit and relax by the ocean or pool with a drink in hand, it was a nice stay. There was a diverse group of families and party going groups, as well as couples like us. All mixed well and everyone got along, enjoying their time. I would give it a 3/5 overall based on the room being a little dirty and the pool not being the cleanest. Everything we booked through Cheap Caribbean was fantastic, including the shuttle service back and forth from airport.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The Spanish-style resort with Moorish flourishes, surrounded by palm groves and the Pacific.

The liquor dispensers in the rooms. It's a party. Just add people.

RiuLand - supervised fun for the little ones while you savor that beachtastic drink by the teal waves.

The majestic Sierra Madres that hug Banderas Bay, which frame the soul-stirring sunsets.

Stress-smashing massages in open-air palapas, facials and Henna tattoos you can get at the spa.

The championship golf course that's near and waiting for your A game.

The nearby Marieta Islands with the hidden beach, a natural wonder that'll blow your hair back.

What We'd Change

Since it's located in Nuevo Vallarta, it's a bit of a drive to the shopping and sights in downtown Puerto Vallarta. But most families never want to leave the all-inclusive perks at Riu Jalisco.

Why You Should Go

The airport is 10 miles from the airport. Your vacay is so near you'll be able to taste it.

Frolicking at the dolphinarium in Banderas Bay is a great option for a non-beach day.

The Malecon, a promenade with beautiful sculpture, is near and ready for your oohing/awing.

There's wave after wave of water sports: body boarding, kayaking, catamarans, and more.

The boat trip to Yelapa, an epic, beachy paradise you can access by boat, is a must-do.

For a fee, you can hop on horses and/or bikes to explore the exotic, tropical terrain.

The traditional village of Bucerias is near and filled with craft markets for your sourveniring.
