Great trip
Our trip was great overall especially with the location in the heart of everything including shopping and walking distance to everything. My only drawback was the rooms can be more clean even though they are dated. Supervisors should ensure that housekeeping is paying more attention to detail especially in heavily used areas in the rooms such as bathroom, counters etc. The staff is very friendly and helpful with no bias. I enjoyed the service of Rosalia in the buffet area. She’s such a sweetheart and treats you like family. There were others but I forgot the names even though they knew you by name. That’s excellent customer service there. We enjoyed the RIU parties to the max. We enjoyed our stay so much that we even extended it for another 3 days. Can’t believe I’m saying this but I love Mexico and its people to the Max. Totally different than the folks I encountered in Texas. Thanks RIU and looking forward to visit again soon.

Decent stay, but won't return.
I'm not usually a review type of person but I figured I'd share my experience. This is my 2nd Riu hotel experience. My first time was with Riu Palace in Cabo.. my experience there was amazing so wanted to keep the Riu theme going in Cancun. My experience with Hotel Riu Cancun wasn't bad at all but it could of been better. I was there from 7/2 to 7/6 for my birthday. Check In was great, we arrived super early and was able to get in our room around 10:30am.. wasn't expecting that but was very grateful due to traveling all morning. The room was decently clean, the bed was terrible.. you only get multiple sheets to sleep with, no comforter or blanket and the pillows are extremely soft that they feel flat.. had to request extra pillows which were delivered to the room through the Riu app. The app is a great tool to request items, I did enjoy feature. The beds are super stiff, you really sleep on top like you would if you were sleeping on a flat surface with no give (ex: floor). The food was decent. I was able to find items that I enjoyed but a picky eater may not be so lucky. The food is not really seasoned but everything was cooked to temp if that means anything. The pool area.. now listen. As much money as we spend staying at these resorts the POOL SHOULD NOT CLOSE AT 7PM WHEN THERE IS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE. I'm sorry but the pool area should be open until at least 9pm. The pool water is so hot during the day, an evening swim would of be chef's kiss. Also, the pool area needs more servers. I never had to walk to bar for a drink at the pool in Cabo.. here in Cancun, I had to get out the pool or get up from relaxing multiple times to get a drink.. even with tipping well.. there wasn't enough servers to keep up with the demand. The swim up pool area is disgusting.. never touched it. I'm not even old and that area was too much for me. People would leave the swim up bar pool/party area because people were so drunk throwing up in the water. The ground around the bar near the pool had so much food on the ground that wasn't getting cleaned up over time and birds were eating off plates.. I just feel a few more groundskeeper could of kept it up a tad better. The pool entertainment is decent but they do the same thing every day. The DJ outside could also play better music as well. The entertainment at night was cool. The performances and game shows on stage were nice and relaxing. No complaints there. The sports bar area was a nice touch and it was open 24/7, but it was too crowded for me but if you are with friends, nice spot to hang out. I didn't go in the club on the resort because I was with my lady but it seem to be popular at night once every came in from the Riu Pool parties. The beach area was nice.. I feel like the area was neglected by staff honestly. I just feel like being on a resort, you shouldn't have to asked to be served but every hotel is different. The staff was sweet and nice. Once they got to know you and your needs, they would always make sure you had whatever you wanted. TIP THE STAFF!! They deserve it. We tipped for everything.. we cashed out $100 in dollar bills and just handed whoever waited on us a couple dollars and they were so appreciative. They just need a few more servers around the pool. Overall, I'd give Riu Cancun a 2.75 out of 5. If you want something affordable where you and your friends want to get a way.. this is the spot for you. Honestly, couples probably should go somewhere more mature and upgraded. The beach views were the only thing luxurious about this resort.. the resort itself felt like if you placed it at Myrtle Beach, it could blend in. I would stay at another Riu but not this location.

Hotel Rui cancun
Hotel was brilliant and very clean. Room could have been freshly painted and the handle kept coming loose on the patio door. Food was amazing & plenty of choice. Staff went above and beyond.

Not worth it . Not a party resort dont be fooled
Listen guys I have been to a lot of rius and this was by the far the worst experience at a riu. Imagine spending 2000 dollars last minute and hotel security telling you to turn off your speaker at 4pm . Yes 4pm ! Imagine how you would feel spending a large sum just for them to tell you that. The food was completely trash in my opinion I wouldn’t say all days it was bad but most days it was. However the food is mostly catered to americans so keep that in mind. This hotel is extremely strict and compared to other resorts this is not a party resort. They keep advertising that it is but their so called parties are not held at riu cancun but riu caribe. And the themes are all the same ! Extremely overcrowded and overpriced hookah. They banned smoking hookah at all their hotels so they could make money selling it. They capitalized heavy on their hookah smoking sales . Prior to covid riu once was a reputable name but now its not. Its not worth coming to any more rius . After a long time customer and traveler to riu its not worth it anymore and im done with them . Their gym is absolutely unacceptable. Extremely small and you cannot get anything done at this gym. Its a complete joke .

Excellent hotel
Myself and wife (40s) stayed here for 10 days and we throughly enjoyed it. The hotel staff are amazing always friendly and attentive nothing was a bother to them. The food was also very good, a wide variety of choices for all meals and very appetising. We did eat out a few days but that was because of convenience not because we didn’t enjoy our meals. The entertainment was ok we didn’t particularly enjoy it but saw that many other people did and also the pools were very popular during the day with activities and drinking. We really liked this hotel for the fact that if you wanted to party there was plenty of it but also if you wanted to chill there are places for you to go, it was great having that choice! Location is spot on..only 5 mins walk to the local clubs, shopping etc The only downfall if I had to choose something was that the beds weren’t perfect…completely satisfactory so that we didn’t complain but that would be my only complaint. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone of any age. Thank you Riu Cancun you made our holiday!!
