Flamingos Make it Worth It, otherwise, Meh

The option of the private island beach with the flamingos is the selling point and highlight here in an otherwise mediocre hotel. We stayed at the Marina/Adults Only side. The front desk team, who are the first people you meet, are RUDE. At all hours of the day rude, except for on younger gentlemen, Jeffrey I think. If you hate your job, why work in hospitality? We arrived early and the front desk person said she was “doing us a favor” by giving us a room early. She gave us a room overlooking the hotel dumpsters, and it smelled. When we complained, she said we would have to wait 2.5 hours until actual check-in time. Fine, but no offer of hotel amenities, the lobby is not air conditioned, it’s Aruba, IT’S HOT, plus we found out later that the hotel wasn’t fully booked. Our actual room once we got one was fine. Im very picky, the bathroom could have been slightly cleaner but for the most part fine. Since it was all inclusive, we prepaid, they never asked for a credit card at check-in. At one point at the swim-up bar we put an extra $2.50 tip on the receipt because we didn't bring cash into the pool. The level at which we were harassed for $2.50 by the front desk in a less than 12 hour period was remarkable. I'm talking a letter, phone calls. They must be really hurting for $2.50, it was seriously only done because we didn't want to get the cash wet and the hotel acted like we were criminals. The pool in the Adults Only hotel is laughable. The pool at the ocean side/kids part is much nicer. Getting to the island is a bit annoying but worth the trip. It gets over crowded so you have to wait, and sometimes it was over 45 minutes, and there were no employees to facilitate so you can wait 45 minutes and a fellow guest who just walked up will cut to the front and you’re stuck waiting for the next boat. The restaurants. Aquarius had a very nice breakfast. For all inclusive it was overall disappointing bordering on inedible at times. The steakhouse was really good and the restaurant when you sat down and ate there on the flamingo island was good enough. I will say all of the waiters were lovely and very attentive. Used the spa, the technician yawned for the full 50 minute massage, sorry she was bored/tired, good massage but that was distracting. The beach chairs are used and abused. Covered in bird do. Really, the flamingos were the best. Not many other places to see that and really is the only reason to choose this place over another.

Met all expectations

We had a great time in Aruba and the Renaissance met all of our expectations. The private island was great and I would definitely recommend this to friends and family. We plan on going back next year!

Great Trip

The resort was wonderful! However, the service from the check-in and front desk staff was sub par. They seemed somewhat dismissive about guest preferences if they were not available. They relied on "it not guaranteed" as a response to everything that was lacking. The cleaning staff was poor. The rooms needed to be more thoroughly cleaned, especially the bathrooms. The restaurant and bar staff were all wonderful but the front desk team needs to be more courteous. I plan to visit again next years. Thank you, Terri Walthour
