Great resort and excellence service . The food is great and the pool right outside of the room is a plus. The beach not so great but in general the resort is perfect.

Great looking place

I really hate that I can not give such a beautiful resort excellent ratings all around. The grounds are beautiful and the contemporary architecture is a nice change from the typical beach resort designs. The service throughout the resort is amazing especially at the restaurants and the ladies who clean the rooms. I have no complaints about the quality of the food or drinks either. However there was a major issue with the beach, don't plan to go in the water while you are there. It is full or rocks and shells and believe me when I say you will get hurt trying to walk that beach barefoot. I'm so glad I chose a room with a swim out pool because that is where we spent most of our time, the beach was just too far from our room and not worth the hassle of dealing with sharp rough rocks. Would I return? Only if they clean up the beach.

Pleasantly surprised

Stayed at this resort a couple of weeks ago (July 13-18, 2017) with two friends, having booked a Jr Suite. When we arrived, the front desk informed us that we had been upgraded to a Platinum Suite because two of us were celebrating birthdays (which was a pleasant surprise to start off the vacation). The room was simply fantastic. One of our concerns when booking our room was the fact that the three of us are platonic friends (myself being male and my friends are two ladies). We had noticed in the pictures online that the rooms had bathtubs that sat exposed to the rest of the room. Once entering the room, we found that the shower had heavily frosted glass and the separate soaking tub had a curtain suspended from the ceiling that could be pulled around it (we are adults and could have managed; however, that made it more convenient than having to leave the room whenever someone wanted to bathe). The rest of the room was quite impressive (we had the two twin bed configuration - but King beds are available as well). There was also a: couch w/chaise attached; 6ft long writing desk; 3ft diameter round table w/2 chairs; 2 closets and shelving; separate enclosed water closet; iron & board; dual sinks; blow dryer; coffee maker; TV w/limited cable; and plenty of lighting. The huge balcony (20ft long x 15ft wide) had: 2 plastic chairs & matching café table; large round chaise chair built for 2; and a hot tub built for 2. The housekeeping staff came by twice a day. Once in the day to clean the room, and again in the early evening to make sure we had soap/shampoo, etc... The property has a modern look/architecture with Wi-Fi throughout (even while standing on the beach), although spotty at times. But quite frankly, the place is so beautiful that you will want to put the devices away and simply enjoy the place. The groundskeepers worked hard to keep the landscape lush and green (and their work truly paid off). We walked the property several times just enjoying the flora and fauna. The beach was groomed early each morning, keeping it looking great every day. The resort was at the end of a long strip of beach with numerous resorts along it (however, staff was always available to make sure the quiet and peacefulness of this adults-only resort were always maintained). This location has 5 bars (one of them open 24hrs). The bartenders were familiar with quite a wide variety of international drinks. We paid for the all-inclusive package so as to not worry about costs. One thing to note is that the bar staff will use the 'cheap' liquors by default. However, they will use the better quality stuff upon request with no hesitation. So be sure to specify the use of a top brand when ordering. If on the all-inclusive package, I suggest trying new drinks (the staff will surprise you, I guarantee - why not!?)... The resort had 5 sit-down restaurants and a cafeteria/buffet. All of the restaurants but one (The Skylight Lounge) were included in our package. The charge for that one would have been $40 per person (which is not bad). The good thing is that each restaurant had its menu posted outside (so that you can look it over at anytime during the day). The restaurants were: Tao (Asian) dinner; Aroma (International) dinner; Bruschetta (Italian) dinner; Rodeo Grill (Tex-Mex) lunch & dinner; and the buffet which served a continental breakfast/standard breakfast/lunch/dinner/and 24hrs overnight snack. While the menus at the restaurants looked very appealing, we loved the food at the buffet. There were 7 different stations to choose from with each meal. Highlights were the omelete bar each breakfast and the pasta bar every dinner. A fun thing was that each night, the main dinner menu theme at the buffet changed (Mediterranean one night, Italian the next, etc.). The buffet included a fresh fruit station each breakfast and a pretty extensive salad station every dinner. There were numerous desserts but were 'bite-sized' portions, so we were able to try several different each day without overindulging. We found the food there to be tasty, hot, and flavorful (and the variety impressive). We did eat dinner at the Rodeo Grill one night. The food was great and the presentation was incredible! The buffet is a come as you are affair. The other restaurants require the men to wear pants (I wore linen pants and button-up shirt but found others in slacks, Dockers, jeans and polo-style shirts). Shoes or closed toe sandals are also required. They don't require formal, just no bathing suits/beach attire or t-shirts. The resort property also has two other resorts on it (they are family-friendly). Our package allowed us to utilize their facilities as well. We walked the grounds of one of these other locations and found it to be beautiful as well. However, we had enough of what we were looking for on our 21+ only resort. One of the nice things that we enjoyed was that it was a mellow crowd while we were there. Being in my late 40's, I was certainly in the average age group. Plus, there were people from around the globe (I am from the U.S. and met people from Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Argentina). Everyone was very relaxed and friendly. It was neither a wild "spring-break' nor a dead "retirement community" crowd. There were plenty of places to hang out, have drinks and party, lay out and tan/sun/nap, sit and read a good book, or just relax and reflect. There were numerous activities each day. We did not manage to get over to the Sports Park (which had archery, rifle & gun shooting, paddle board, etc.). The main pool (there are two huge pools here) had numerous activities (including water polo, aerobics, Zumba, etc.). There were just too many activities to name. We did attend the Reggae Party on the beach. It started a 9pm and featured a live band. It is hard to describe how great it feels to be sitting on a beach chair sipping on a cocktail while enjoying a really good reggae band and being able to look up and see the Milky Way on a warm July night! The Michael Jackson show was great as well. The resort offered really great shows throughout the each day. This property offered amazing facilities and an incredible staff. They even had two ATM's on-site for those wanting to exchange their currency (the front desk even made change for guests). The resort is only a 15-minute cab ride to downtown Playa del Carmen. It cost us $18 U.S. for the three of us to go there (of course this will change as the currency rates do). It was well worth the trip. We had pre-booked an excursion before taking our trip as well but the resort does have representatives from several tour companies on-site. So you can feel free to wait until you get there to book a tour if you prefer. They will provide you with more options than you imagined were possible. Additionally, the valet station can call you a cab that will arrive within 10 minutes (no exaggeration - the cabs are stationed just outside of the property, so there is not a long wait for one). The valet station also informed us of the current exchange rate before we went downtown so that we could avoid getting taken advantage of. I do want to mention that the property is a 45 minute ride from the Cancun airport. But the road is smooth and the ride did not seem that long. The weather was hot & humid. It was in the low 90's each day with humidity hovering around 80%. This is typical July weather there. Being in the pool is what most people do most of each day (and these pools can comfortably accommodate everyone). Just make sure to bring clothes appropriate to this climate and be prepared (don't forget the sunscreen). I will say that there was a constant breeze that blew, making it feel several degrees cooler. It was easy to tan in the sun (pretty much unavoidable); however, the breeze made sitting in the shade something to look forward to each day (and the resort had numerous places to do so amongst picturesque settings). I realize that this is a long post, but I tried to cover all of the things that I wondered about before going on this trip. All that I can say is that 6 days/5 nights were not enough to see and do everything that this resort has to offer. We will most definitely be going back! This is my second time booking a trip through Cheap Caribbean and I am happy with the convenience and their service. In fact, two days after getting back, we booked a cruise through them for next year (the ONLY reason that we aren't going back to this resort again next summer)! Happy Travels!
