April 9-15 2017 spring break

2nd visit to the resort (1st trip March 2010). Rebooked vacation using Cheap Caribbean website- no major issues using site (a little worried considering all the negative reviews listed about them). First visit to the resort in 2010 was amazing- couldn't wait for a return trip. Booked for April expecting most families would be back home from Spring Break, but was highly disappointed in the amount of changes to the resort and was overwhelmed in the amt of ppl staying since our first stay (similar opinion to most other returning couples comments). Such a nice resort, but so disappointed with the amount of changes :( if you choose to stay, make sure you book during less busy times- this place is too small for busy holiday travel times. First of all, this resort is beautiful, but it is a much smaller luxury resort in comparison to the big chain resorts down there. The hotel has now found ways to spilt this place up to accommodate all paying levels (Similar to a cruise line). This resort is not large enough for new changes!!!! Please go back to the previous management company!! We purchased the upgraded luxury room when booking (first stayed in the junior garden room), but wanted something different- absolutely no difference (not worth the extra $$). Upon arrival, my husband and I were upgraded to the Royal Service (RS) rooms- excited because we previously read a lot of positive reviews that came with this section of the resort, but the upgrade was too much $$ despite the little extras you get. Such a disappointment, because the upgrade came with no benefits... just the room location, which was one building down from where we originally stayed in 2010 (buildings are all connected). All the "extras" including an imaginary line division of the main pool by the swim up bar was actually off limits to us, which we didn't know about until one of the security guards yelled at us for swimming in a certain part of the main pool. Apparently this section was blocked off For Royal Service customers only (we weren't the only ones yelled at after). For a few days, this part of the pool was monitored with a security guard to alert ppl not to swim or lay in certain sections of the main pool for the RS members (who also have another separate pool btw), but was taken down after a few days- probably bc the hotel was too crowded. Don't pay for the RS during holiday time- the level of service is unnoticeable. Due to the amount of ppl staying here, the main pool and beaches were overwhelming crowed daily- pools and beach open at 8am and there lines daily for towels and ppl trying to reserve their spots for the day. We didn't have many issues in comparison to others to find a spot on the beach (in the back) but be aware that if you lay towls down, by the beach, and don't return for awhile to claim your area, the beach crew give away your chairs (for a tip!). The beach is now further divided than it was in 2010 in which the resort has cut more than half open spots for the new RS customers (so very limited open chairs). Ppl would sneak over the ropes just to sit down, but would be asked to moved shortly. Dining options- you still have to make your dinner rsvps daily, but it's now more of a challenge to find restaurants open (not enough staff to cover the open/unused tables). We were lucky a few nights to jump in line for rsvps at some of the restaurants, but be flexible with your timing (mostly good after 8/830pm). The resort opened a few additional places for dinner, that were originally closed off to the old Reserve members, but wasn't too impressed. Majority of all restaurants are located at the main hotel. I'd say the dinner rsvp desk was the most unfriendly customer service experience ever- dinner rsvps were lost daily for us or cancelled bc of larger families. I was pretty disappointed with overall customer experience here and the attitudes of most employees working this spot :( Overall, the resort wasn't too bad this time around, but would probably prefer to look at other resorts first. Was more disappointed in the amount of families staying there that used the hotel as a basic babysitting service. Additionally, the amount of families traveling with 18+ yr olds was worst. Such a shame - wasn't sure if I was more annoyed with the amount of drunk teens running around or the amount of unsupervised children running and jumping off chairs, pool ledges and screaming!! PARENTS- WACH YOUR KIDS! I'm a paying customer too and don't want to be bothered by your lack of parenting. Brush up on your Spanish! I was a little surprised in the lack of English speaking workers in comparison to 2010. Staff positions that would be considered more customer facing are able to get by, but housekeeping or other grounds workers not so much. Didn't bother us, but noticed a lot of couples making comments.

Disappointed

There were many things wrong with the rooms - mildew, jacuzzi didn't work, sliding glass doors that didn't lock, broken shower handle, to name a few. We had to change our rooms several times which took up a lot of our time. Had to make reservations for dinner in advance with no guarantee. The buffet was quantity not quality. The Japanese and the steakhouse were good. The beach and pool were nice but didn't get much time there because we had to take care of settling the room situation. It was a waste of time and money. Very disappointed.

Nice scenery, but disappointing services

I stayed with my 2 children in this resort for 3 days, during spring break of 2017. Although the resort is vast, and the pool side and beach side amazing, the resort leaves a lot to desire. First of all, we got 0 internet reception in our room throughout our stay. WiFi may not be a top priority for some, but it is important in our family in order to stay connected and watch shows at night. Not having any reception had me use my Verizon data plan and even created a family dispute one night (thank you very much for that Paradisus Palma Real!). Despite asking nicely 4 times for the problem to be resolved, nothing happened. I was able to get some WiFi reception in the main area, but the internet speed was reminiscent of dial-up internet of the 90s. The TV did not help matters: old TV and complicated remote. Secondly, the staff is slow, very young, not professional and even oblivious at times. I was poorly greeted when I checked in and poorly greeted when I checked out. The boy at the desk who looked like he was 16 could not have cared a less. Lastly, the food: all-you-can-eat inclusive is nice, but it was at expense of quality. I got food poisoning on my second day, which made the last day difficult for me and the children. At least, the store inside the resort had a mini pharmacy and I was able to get generic Imodium AD. Furthermore, the food is served by staff with an utter lack of care for food. In summary, although the beach view and the pool space were great, I cannot recommend this place due to the above. Instead of having amenities that look tacky (like a hot tub in the bathroom surrounded by Greek pillars), just take care of fundamentals like internet, professionalism, and food!

Beautiful resort but will not be back

The resort landscaping, beach area and lobby or absolutely gorgeous. A few of the restaurants were ok and a few absolutely horrible...if you're a foodie, definitely not your resort. We were traveling with our 8 month old and after 5 days decided to give their babysitting services a try for a couple of daytime hours so we could enjoy some adult pool time together. It ended with the babysitter running around the pool up to us with our son screaming crying. She came from the reserve holding him, so she didn't have him in his carseat on the golf cart and should not have been running with a baby around a pool. She said she had experience with babies but I think she just jumped at the opportunity for some extra cash because it was clear she had never dealt with a baby. This is really scary that something like this could happen. We are super lucky everything was ok, but I would not trust this resorts 'Guest Services' for anything. Pool - We had to wake up at 5:30am to go down to the pool and beach to save ourselves a spot and even then the pickings were slim. It's a total fiasco. Restaurant reservations are also enough to never want to go back. We were there for 7 days and were told we couldn't get a res for any night until like 9:30 at night yet all the restaurants were empty at 7 and 8. YOu can just go to the restaurant and they'll seat you. Also watch out for the 'family concierge' they are just trying to sell you a membership.

What's to Love

All-inclusive everything: the cocktails, the grub, the utter luxuriousness of it all.

The adults-only Royal Service (boutique hotel w/in the resort) with a private pool & Bali beds.

Releasing your kiddos to the 7,800 sq. ft. Kids Zone with a climbing wall, trampolines and more.

The stress-ousting treatments at the spa and the uber-relaxing water ritual area with sauna/steam.

Getting your killer workout on during the salsa, bachata and merengue classes.

The AAA 4-Diamond restaurant, Passion, with the world-renowned chef, Martin Berasatgui.

What We'd Change

It's true that the resort is pretty spread-out and requires a good bit of walking. But the landscaping is lush and extra space means crowding is not an issue.
