Best Vacation Ever

The Paradisus Palma Real resort was the best resort my family has ever been to. Our vacation in Punta Cana was one of the best we have ever had. We had so much fun there. We went to the beach every day, tried delicious new foods, recieved excellent service, did fun activities, I took my oldest duaghter to the most beautiful golf course we have ever seen there. I even took my girls to swim with dolphins. It was a dream come true. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone who is planning to go on vacation.

Nice but not intimate

First let me say that I am such a huge fan of the Caribbean, and it's people especially. I've traveled to a many an island throughout, and the people are genuinely as good as gold. That said, my wife and I felt like rockstars throughout our stay. First I'll highlight the pros, and then visit the cons. THE PROS: The resort is beautiful and a short 25 minute ride from the airport. The check in process is fairly efficient, and the people very welcoming. The resort isn't large and spread out, so moving to and fro was seamless. The aesthetics at night are exceptional. When the sun falls the lighting is really sexy throughout the resort. The food options were a solid 7.5/8 of 10, and I'm a huge foodie so... If it weren't for the shortcomings of the late afternoon buffet I would have probably gone 8.5/9 on the food. The main buffet which closes momentairly around 4p as they prepare the dinner menu has more choices than you can possibly eat in a weeks time, and is tremendously tasty. The Mediterranean restaurant was really good, as well as the hibachi. Our room, the one bedroom master suite was exceptional. It was quaint, but with tons of marble, and great character throughout, and a jacuzzi tub that comfortably sat two- I can't bring myself to complain. THE CONS: My new bride and I were off to celebrate our marriage and to honeymoon. However, the resort, in my opinion, as it is not an Adults Only establishment doesn't afford many opportunities or locations onsite for truly intimate and quiet moments to share with your spouse. There were children enmass. The children were well behaved and not obnoxious, however, out of respect for the families we had to avoid the long embraces, the intimate kisses, or the occasional but grabs as not to offend. Each day spent outside of our suite found us unsuccessfully searching for a place just to lay out, on the beach or around the pools, and simply be in each others arms. If you're traveling with your family then this place may be the perfect fit, but if quiet and intimate is the aim then this is definitely not the place for you. Also, the room that I paid for was sold/given out, and we were told that the room that we ended up in was much nicer, but I suppose I'll never know, but they did say that it was an upgrade. When I visit places near bodies of water my preference is to be able to view the beach from my room, and it didn't appear that very many rooms there afforded that option. Our suite overlooked a garden, which was fine, considering we didn't spend tons of time there. Be advised that you will be blindly lead into a 90 minute time share presentation under the guise of coming down to enjoy a breakfast reservation. The drinks outside of the main restaurant were C-. You could tell the difference in quality at the restaurants as I'd rate them an A. The secondary buffet attached to the Mexican restaurant almost ruined the trip for me as this was our first dining experience of the trip. This was our only food option as we arrived during a transition time for the restaurants, and the main buffet. The secondary buffet is open air like the main buffet, but with no bug repelling mechanisms and flies had free run of EVERYTHING on the buffet lines, and I do mean everything. I was shocked to see some people disregard this and chow down. Also, having to make reservations was a pain, but I do understand the reasoning, but unfortunately it forced you into meal times that you might not have preferred, but to ensure the sit down restaurant experience you had to secure what was available. All of this said... unless I'm looking for a destination to bring the family and it's little ones- the wife, and I wouldn't return to this particular resort. Again, the people and the scenery are exceptional, and the food pretty good, but it simply didn't meet the aforementioned particular need for us. Hope this helps.

Staff training is badly needed

The hotel was excellent. It was very clean and attractive. However, the front desk employees need training. They Don't seem to have customer service skills. I was so afraid to go to the front then if the keys were deactivated for reason they could not explain. They have an attitude to reactivate the keys again. They are not approachable. Secondly, house keeping doesn't not understand a word of English. IT was very difficult communicating and very afraid to ask questions because you know they cannot assist. Thirdly, the bus service (Amstar) driver drop us off at the wrong terminal and had to take a car to get to the other terminal. He doesn't understand what we were trying to say. He just say going to NY, this is where u get off. I said all airlines, he said yes. I only speak English so it was the most stressful vacation for communicating with the staff. OTHERWISE, the food, the hotel was excellent.

A Mixed Bag

Overall I thought this resort was very good. There were just a few snags along the way. I was SO excited to get out of town and go on a vacation and since I was going by myself, it seemed that an all-inclusive resort would be the best option. I'd be able to book some excursions, lay by the beach/pool, and get in some much-needed spa time. The Beach and Pool were GREAT. Beautiful, well-kept, easy to find a chair or space around as needed. The spa was GREAT - wonderful services, great staff. Here's where the problems were: I was traveling by myself and I felt I was treated differently as a "single." Upon check-in, I was directed to the wrong buffet to eat while I was waiting for my room. Then, while everyone else was getting tours of the resort, I was just taken to my room. Furthering that, they hadn't left a map of the resort in my welcome packet, so I didn't know where to go or how to find things until I figured out my way back to reception to get a map. But, since the process of how the resort worked and was laid out was never explained to me, it took me a while to pick up the vibe and what I needed to do to eat at a restaurant on the resort, or make plans for myself. If the resort wasn't crowded, I had no problem getting to a bar and/or having someone who worked for the resort bring me a drink. But if it was a busier day, I was by myself and no one seemed to be able to be bothered. And that's where the value gets a bit dinged here - I don't feel like I got my real value out of the resort because I wasn't helped as much as I could have been. There were a lot of amenities/activities that said they were included that I genuinely have no idea if they are or aren't as I wasn't able to find them myself. I'd say the food on the resort was definitely geared towards the tourist. Great because you'll always find something to eat, but it was lacking the local flair I was hoping for. The service was good, except for the one night I was followed out of the restaurant by the server asking me for a tip. That was uncomfortable to say the least. I also can only give this 3 palms because while some paperwork said one of the restaurants was included in the package, the concierges kept telling me that it wasn't. I'm still not sure? The room was beautiful. It was an amazing space to have to myself and was kept very well. I didn't spend too much time in the room, but when I was there I was incredibly comfortable. It's getting not 5 palms/stars because the water heater only worked half the time for the shower/bath. Every night there was turn-down service! The resort seemed to have a lot of activities and I was always asked to join - so that felt great and they were really fun! Who doesn't want to dance mid-day (particularly on vacation in the Dominican, right?!). Overall the staff was friendly and able to converse enough in English that I could get by, but I think the resort could have done a better job of being consistent with the guests and the value of the resort - it shouldn't matter how many (if any) people you are traveling with.

What's to Love

All-inclusive everything: the cocktails, the grub, the utter luxuriousness of it all.

The adults-only Royal Service (boutique hotel w/in the resort) with a private pool & Bali beds.

Releasing your kiddos to the 7,800 sq. ft. Kids Zone with a climbing wall, trampolines and more.

The stress-ousting treatments at the spa and the uber-relaxing water ritual area with sauna/steam.

Getting your killer workout on during the salsa, bachata and merengue classes.

The AAA 4-Diamond restaurant, Passion, with the world-renowned chef, Martin Berasatgui.

What We'd Change

It's true that the resort is pretty spread-out and requires a good bit of walking. But the landscaping is lush and extra space means crowding is not an issue.
