Ocean is Blue but all most else needs improvement
My husband and I stayed here in April 2009 for a week. Let's start with the positives... We got massages at the spa (extra fee) that were nice. The room wasn't bad. It was clean, and AC was cool. Everything worked, etc. The pools were clean and reasonably populated. The casino was small but fed my need to gamble! We won a couple bucks, but it was all in fun. The hotel hires out private photographers to take your photos if you wish. Then you can view and choose to purchase them if you would like. The wasn't the typical hotel photographer either, they were more artistic and we ended up buying a few prints. The ocean was beautiful, bartenders friendly, and the kayaking and hobbie cats were the highlight for us! Now onto the improving.... Our balcony overlooked an empty lot and side road. Not the biggest deal in the world but could have been a lot nicer. We also had a room on the 3rd floor and there are no elevators. It was a long walk to the beach from our room and if you don't get to the beach literally before 7am to claim a shaded beach chair, you were stuck in the sun for the rest of the day. This was our biggest challenge as we didn't figure it out until our third day there. We would get to the beach around 10am and be dumbfounded that there were NO shaded chairs left... We did enjoy playing ping pong (yes, we are big kids!) in the kids club, but it was so hot in there and musty that we could only stay in there for short periods at a time. The kids who were bowling in there did appear to be having fun though! The restaurants decor was nice, but the food left much to be desired. We got tired of eating the same foods night after night. The service at the restaurants was not good. Very slow. If you needed something it was near impossible to get their attention. We mostly had dinner at the buffet so we didn't have to worry about being served. I would not stay here again. It is not bad, but not good either. I expected more I suppose.

Great Resort for all
We really enjoyed our stay here. We are an early 30's couple who brought our 10 month old daughter and just had an amazing time. The rooms were very clean and well kept. The restaurants were many and varied and delicious! We never had to wait and the food was well made.
The beach was cleaned daily and there were plenty of chaise lounges in the sun or shade. Usage of hoby cats were included, as were rock wall climbing and snorkeling and several other things. Plenty of swim up pool bars. Friendly eager to please workers. Nice spa!
I can't say enough about how clean it was. Always someone was scrubbing the walkways or cleaning the beaches. While we did take our daughter and there were a few other families with kids there, this resort caters to couples as well. Whatever you are interested in, they had it here. The vendors were a little pushy but just have a firm NO ready if you aren't interested and walk away.
The nightly shows were REALLY good. They were tons of fun and a few had audience participation which was enjoyable as well. (As long as it was not me! LOL)
Great resort we can't wait to go back to.
We really enjoyed ourselves, however, we thought the staff at the front desk was youthful, lacked perfessionlism. They were nice and warm but lack the training that would build confidence in you that they really understood their role. The rooms were very clean the food was good, and all were friendly. If we had an opertunity to return we would.
We had a wonderful time with plenty of activities for the whole family. The coffee shop had a variety of drinks and desserts and the dining options offered something different to satisfy everyone. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

We just got back from Montego Bay Jamaica and we stayed at the RIU, which is all inclusive. We also have 3 teenagers and they loved it. It's safe, there is plenty for them to do and we did it on a budget as well.

I had lengthy conversations with Dominican workers, taxi drivers, etc. while in Punta Cana -- they say the "Hard Rock" is the place to go- considered above the rest! My friends just returned from spending a week there - they said it was awesome!

Sorry we went there for the golf too. But there is no gulf now. They had a storm and its out of service for now. But there are some not far from the resort. They should take the golf out if they don't have it available.

Hotel Description
Ocean Blue Resort, Punta Cana: Get Ready to Double Down
If life feels like one long day after another, give yourself permission to check out the magnificent Ocean Blue Golf And Beach Resort. Two resorts, Ocean Blue and Ocean Sand, mean twice the activities of an average resort, offer dining and luxury for every one of their guests with access to both resorts. Each resort houses half of the combined 728 superb suites with private Jacuzzis and VIP concierge service.
Located along the lush Dominican Republic's Punta Cana, this all inclusive dreamboat offers water activities, such as snorkeling, windsurfing and scuba diving, plus unique ways to see the sights, including a cool beachfront climbing wall. Float under swaying palm trees in the quiet pool or order a margarita and join the party at the other pool's swim-up bar. When you've had enough water fun, channel your inner Robin Hood at the archery range, shoot pool like Minnesota Fats, or peddle like Lance Armstrong on a bike.
If you're feeling in need of pampering, relax at Ocean Spa, then grab an Irish Coffee at Mike's, the coffeehouse at Ocean Blue Resort in Punta Cana. Fully caffeinated and ready to go, cash in at the Ocean Tower Casino, or strike out with the family at the bowling alley. If bowling balls aren't your cup of tea, splurge a little and grab a tee-time at nearby White Sands Golf Course, an 18-hole course designed by Spanish golf great, Jose "Pepe" Gancedo.
Guests can have their taste buds tickled with a smattering of delicious dining options from El Bodegon's Spanish tapas, to Route 66's 1950s diner, to La Casa de Mi Abuela's traditional Dominican fare. Dine where you like, when you like, with no reservations needed. And for those who really rock around the clock, you can play the night away at the resort's Wave Disco Bar. So if you just can't stop... you don't have to at Ocean Blue Golf And Beach Resort, where it's all inclusive, all of the time.
