An average experience

Overall: The good things about this resort were the value and the ease of booking with cheapcarribean.com. The bad things were no wifi, aggressive staff, just a feeling of of oldness/out of date-ness and not right for our age group. Food: -the buffet is your best option; there are many different food types, made to order, great drinks, friendly servers, and no wait -the a la carte restaurants are average. We ate at the steakhouse and at the french restaurant. The staff in both were overwhelmed, and the food was average. -Blue Moon (French): Mahi-Mahi and beef tenderloin were just okay. Atmosphere was not formal. -Steakhouse: The steaks were a disappointment - we had skirt steak and sirloin, and they couldn't comprehend medium, let alone medium rare, and the steaks were well done and chewy. The calamari at the steakhouse was vile. The ceviche was very good. You do not need reservations for either of these restaurants. -Mike's coffee was good, and the staff here was friendly. The restaurant is overly air conditioned with giant ceiling fans that they wont turn down, so even though the restaurant is nice, it is hard to sit in there and read or anything as it is far too cold! Beach: -the beach is indeed eroded and there is a steep step off. You can walk all along the beach front for miles, as beaches are technically public. There was a lot of seaweed at this resort's beach, but not at others, so the other parts of the beach at other resorts were definitely better! Pools: -the pools were COLD. very cold. hard to use. -the pools close at 7pm, which is really too bad. Entertainment -my conclusion is that the entertainment is for older/less traveled folks -there was live music in the main lobby most evenings, but this was really out of date -the disco/club opens at 11pm, but was very sparsely attended, with few if any people dancing. The songs were mostly local/unrecognizable. We asked the DJ to play a Mike Posner song and he didn't know what it was. -the casino is small and brightly lit and feels more like an arcade -the spa, which we used for a massage, body polish, jacuzzi and sauna was a good experience and good value for the package we got. The jacuzzi and sauna were amazing. The massage was average and a bit strange - we did a couples massage and the lights were on and bright, and we were sat up for some parts of it with no clothes on, and no privacy (it was not romantic!) -the spa should have offered massages on th beach, but they dont' Staff/service -the staff at the buffet was very nice. -the staff in the lobby and reception were also nice. -the staff at the a la carte restaurants was stressed out and overwhelmed -Mike's coffee staff was lovely -the H10 premium people were terrible and persistent with their sales pitch -there were vendors on every walkway and entrance to the lobby and restaurants on Valentine's day. They were downright mean when we told them no. I felt upset and felt like going back to my room. Internet -Wifi is there name, but even after connecting it does not load any websites, and they should not be allowed to say it is offered. It is a lie. -there is a computer with wired internet in the check in area. This is what we used to respond to work emails etc. We went here because we needed a break from our midwest winter, and we did get a break. The weather, unlimited/all-inclusive nature and general vacation feeling was great, but there were a lot of issues as noted above. This resort is better suited to older people - we are both in our 30s and this was not the right location for our demographic. The issues with the wifi and the rude H10 and vendor staff were a huge problem, and downgraded the resort making one feel harassed and hustled, like a captive population there to be exploited. Most of our days were spent mapping the best route to avoid the constant harassment by many of these staff members and vendors.

Will go back anytime

This was a great value for the money. All the staff were great, food was good with a lot of variety, there was plenty of entertainment throughout the day and evening, yet enough quiet areas as well. Our only complaint would be a musty smell to our room, which could be expected with the high humidity of the area. This was quickly remedied by keeping the air on in our room. This is a great resort whether traveling as a couple, with friends or with children.

Best Resort

This was our 1st trip out of the country. It was so amazing. The staff was very excellent. The buffet was the best we have ever had. It was so clean. Everything was in walking distance. The grounds were beautiful. The entertainment was also excellent. They were so talented. Hope we can return every year. There was something to do all the time. We were there February 13th to 18th 2017. They had alot of wonderful things on Valentines Day. We just can't say enough about this resort.

Hotel Description

Ocean Blue & Sand Beach Resort, Punta Cana: Get Ready to Double Down

If life feels like one long day after another, give yourself permission to check out the magnificent Ocean Blue & Sand Beach Resort. The Ocean Blue and Ocean Sand share facilities, which means twice the activities of an average resort by offering dining and amenities for every one of their guests with access to both resorts. Each resort houses half of the combined 708 five-star suites and junior suites. VIP concierge service is offered for Privilege Jr. Suites.

Located along the lush Dominican Republic's Punta Cana, this all-inclusive dreamboat offers water activities, such as snorkeling, windsurfing and scuba diving, plus unique ways to see the sights, including a cool beachfront climbing wall. Float under swaying palm trees in the quiet pool or order a margarita and join the party at the other pool's swim-up bar. When you've had enough water fun, channel your inner Robin Hood at the archery range, shoot pool like Minnesota Fats, or peddle like Lance Armstrong on a bike.

If you're feeling in need of pampering, relax at Ocean Spa, then grab an Irish Coffee at Mike's, the coffeehouse at Ocean Blue & Sand. Fully caffeinated and ready to go, cash in at the Ocean Tower Casino, or strike out with the family at the bowling alley. If bowling balls aren't your cup of tea, splurge a little and grab a tee-time at nearby White Sands Golf Course, an 18-hole course designed by Spanish golf great, Jose "Pepe" Gancedo.

Guests can have their taste buds tickled with a smattering of delicious dining options from El Bodegon's Spanish tapas, to Route 66's 1950s diner, to La Casa de Mi Abuela's traditional Dominican fare. Dine where you like, when you like, with no reservations needed. And for those who really rock around the clock, you can play the night away at the resort's Wave Disco Bar. So if you just can't stop... you don't have to at Ocean Blue & Sand Beach Resort, where it's all inclusive, all of the time.
