Too boring and isolated

The hotel is offered as an all inclusive adult only, but really offers nothing compared to other all inclusive hotels. The beach is unkept and looks more like a river bank. The pool is extremely warm and no floats are provided. The entertainment consist of afternoon pool volley ball and a one man band in the evenings. The disco is a small isolated room off the lobby with a pool table and a radio hooked to speakers. They denied me wifi even though it was included when I booked. I loved Costa Rica but only after having paid a ton of extra money to rent a car and go on daily excursions. I would be in a much better financial state renting a regular hotel or b&b in a beach town. This hotel needs to be advertised differently so that its guest are not so disappointed upon arrival, and more importantly they need not to confuse boring with relaxing. Danielle at the front desk was extremely difficult and nonflexiable with even the most reasonable request. I've been in hospitality for 20 years. The most important thing you do is to be warm and welcoming to guest and make them feel comfortable in their new environment and she is incapable of even cracking a smile. All the other staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Just for the experience

Overall everything was good. The resort is nice and price is reasonable. The negatives were the dining options. Not enough choices for vegetarians. I was expecting more Costa Rican foods and less regular foods. I was told I was getting Champagne for my birthday but nothing was in my room. I didn't worry about it because it was supposed to be on the house by an employee. Depending on what you're looking for it can be more for relaxing. If you want more excitement to try something closer to nightlife. I didn't appreciate my round trip transportation provided a time for pickup to the airport. Amstar messed up the pickup time but I luckily made it to the airport in enough time. They realized their mistake. Lastly, everyone was friendly and helpful.

Being there done that kind of thing

We wanted to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and heard so many good things about Costa Rica that we decided to go. We picked this hotel because is an Adult Only hotel (should be change to a family hotel). This hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport and is not a bad drive at all. We stayed for a week but we were ready to leave by day 4 because it is not a lot to do unless you pay extra for the excursions but ... we always managed to escape on our own and mingle with the locals. Rooms were fine but very poor lightning (dark). Our shower was not draining properly and was never fixed while we were there, we did call front desk. Buffet area is not very big, meaning guests need to wait to be seated. They have different themes each day, lots of food but they should do more research on selections. This hotel also has two restaurants, one Italian and one Asian. We tried the Asian two nights, first night was very good, food tasted fresh but the second night (our anniversary dinner) was a disaster. We are guessing they had a different chef that night. If you are a person that loves to exercise and can't skip the gym, this is not your hotel. The gym is very small with outdated equipment. You will get your exercise going up and down the stairs and walking around. The pool bar service is slow and not very good drinks. It is better to go to the bar at the hotel, the bartenders were very friendly, good service, and they knew how to prepare drinks in the proper way. Night life is not the best. The hotel don't offer shows like other hotels do. The club is small. The DJ played good music but they had silly games on few nights. Pool is a good size pool, I didn't smell the chemicals that a pool needs meaning didn't use it very often. They offer aerobics, Zumba classes and volleyball games in the pool area, that was entertaining. You can't take your bikini top off to take sun (it is an Adult only hotel!!!) :-( The Spa is small but clean and the service and employees are very friendly and professional. Overall, this hotel is okay but we will not go back.
