Beautiful grounds. Well kept. Beach gets an A+. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Rooms great. Bed great. Housekeeping did an excellent job. Great place to stay. If you have problems walking, this may not be the resort for you. a lot of walking to get anywhere. Just sayin. Don`t try to get your "free" coupons or you find yourself involved with the timeshare people..3 hours. They will tell you its not a timeshare, but it is. Hey it`s a resort buffet. Don`t expect too much. I was always able to find something edible. Overall, a great place to stay. And, this is not a resort issue, but... BEWARE the taxi drivers ! Anywhere on the island! They are ripoffs and thieves ! Better off staying on the resort. Most all of the excursion companies will pick you up at the resort dock or front desk. HAVE FUN !!!

Just OK

The Occidental Cozumel resort is on average just ok. My room on the Royal Level was great! Very spacious and nice. The overall resort has a tropical feel including the animals. There are iguanas everywhere and especially mosquitoes. The nightlife needs to be improved as there was not a lot a lot to do after 9pm. The food at the buffet was better than the food at the specialty restaurants. I think there should more authentic Mexican food though and less of sub par Italian food. The bartending staff were excellent, very attentive and friendly!

Beautiful grounds

My husband and 2 daughters, 3y and 6y, stayed at this resort for 8 days. 8 days too long. While this resort is absolutely beautiful, it is really for couples who are looking to eat, sleep, drink, and sunbathe for days. There was nothing going at this resort. They had occasional pool activities but no water activities. The main pool was definitely the epicenter of the resort. I enjoyed the pool however It was cloudy and warmer than the air which was not refreshing at all. The beach water was not clear like the pictures, although I had been told the murky water was because of all the recent rain. Make sure you bring water shoes if you plan on swimming at the beach. The Surfline in covered in sharp dead corals. At the furthest end of the swimming boundary I was told by other guests that the snorkeling was amazing for a beach. (I was too scared to swim out that far) The website pictured a children's area. When I visited it in person it looked as though it was never used. The small pool was filled with leaves and dirty. Our favorite part of our stay was definitely the grounds. We looked forward to any walk we had to make so we could see new animals. You truly are staying in the middle of the jungle. We saw coati's everyday, iguanas, lizards, pigs, turtles, forest crabs, and a raccoon (apparently they are critically endangered on the island). The service was ok. Some of the staff was amazingly friendly but slow at serving you drinks. The rooms were very clean and accommodating. My kids enjoyed the drinks in the mini fridge being refilled daily. if I could describe the food I was just say it is edible. Occasionally there were some good selections but the majority of the food was a mediocre attempt and foreign cuisine. When I came to Mexico, I expected authentic Mexican food. This resort is about a 20 minute drive from town so if you plan on going to town plan on spending $30-$40 round trip for cab fares. It is very remote. I would recommend renting a car for the day to explore the island. I loved this resort it was just not for my family of busy bodies. I would definitely recommend this resort for couples looking for maximum relaxation. One thing I would change: the onbnoxious timeshare pitch. Be aware as soon as you step off the plane someone who says they are concierge from the hotel tries to sell you excursions. We actually did purchase an excursion to tulum and xel-ha for $200 + ferry (for 4 people) the catch? We had to sit through a 90 minute timeshare pitch. My advice, walk straight past everyone at the airport and hail your own cab. Unless you don't mind sitting through a 90 minutes presentation to get a sweet deal on excursions.
