worst resort ever!!!

This is the worst resort we've ever been to!!!! Terrible service same food at every meal. The resort was dirty and run down. Got money stolen from our room, they said there was nothing they could do about it, Advbertised a swim up bar in the poo we found out that was next door at there other property but we were not aloud to go to it. Bad attitude by the staff. They try to rip you off every time you pay for something using different exchange rates,

Good Value for the Price

Just returned from Occidental. Ill keep it short and to the point. For the price we paid it was a good value, but due to connecting flights, below par buffet, unclear water, & lack of nighttime fun, we will probably not be back. The buffet was not up to par with the 30 other all inclusive's I've been to. Wife and son got sick second day. Thanks to Pamela and the Dr on site our trip did improve after that. Make reservations for dinner in the specialty restaurants every day you can or upgrade and eat at the Royal Club. My main thing was to visit a hotel that had crystal clear water, I read so many reviews and barely any of them talked about this fact. The water is not clear, you can barely see your upper legs. To find clear water for swimming and snorkeling you either have to take a boat out or go to North side (Azul) and find the public beach, which we did and found beautiful water with lots of fish right off the beach. The entertainment was bad most of the nights, and almost everyone is in room by 1030. Bathrooms are far from pool, so you know what that means. Jesus is the man, he did make the daytime activities fun. Thanks Jesus and Pamela! Steve Nicky & Michelle.

Basic

Pretty basic resort that would struggle to captivate you if not for having other activities off resort. Room was actually nice besides the strong musty smell. We stayed here while scuba diving, so thankfully we had other things to do or this resort would have gotten boring very quickly. There is some beauty with the plant and wildlife, but is about it. The food situation was rough to say the least. The buffets are pretty bad, and you only get a certain number of reservations to the a la carte restaurants on site. You can then only make a reservation on the morning of the day you want to eat and hope that there are still spots open. The buffets were probably the worst food I have ever eaten at a resort like this. I did think the bartenders did a good job and were pleasant to work with. I thought the wait staff was good as well. No issues there. It's kind of hard to find everything at the resort due to the low level of lighting and the extreme amount of plant life. There was a little bit of entertainment most nights (lasted only an hour or less), but the place was pretty dead by 10pm or so. I wouldn't want to go back here.

Divers paradise

I would recommend this resort especially if your are interested in scuba diving. They have a pro dive shop on site with wonderful, helpful instructors if it is something you are interested in experiencing. We did the discover dive package which included classroom and pool training in the morning, then they take you out by boat to 2 separate dives -45 mins ea. location in the afternoon. We did not go on this trip with the intentions of diving but I am SO HAPPY we decided to try it! Our instructor- Hans was top notch, very paitient and knowledgeable and helped us every step of the process. This resort is literally a stone throws away from the most beautiful reef - 2nd in the world!! On our first dive we saw a huge leather back turtle, sting rays, an eel, lobsters and the most vibrant colored corals and fish. I was in total awe by the sight of it!! I highly recommend trying this if you never have!! The resort staff were very friendly and helpful and accommodated us anyway they could. Some of our favorites were Franando at the front desks, bartenders, Justino and Caesar were both great and attentive by the pool! The Am star travel Rep Rolando was very helpful in getting our excursions booked and set up. Our favorite restaurant on resort was Sonoras- and the manager or host was very hospitable. My only complaint was there were no close restrooms by the pool areas and it is a bit of a hike back to your room each time. I would definitely stay here again if I ever visit Cozumel again!
