service and smiles

My wife and I have stayed here 3 times this year. The place is great but even better are the people and service. Food is good and they have a great selection for everyone. Bartenders, waiters and waitresses are exceptional and always have a smile on their face. They have activities at the pool and beach which Brandon makes so much fun, you can't resist getting involved or just watching. Volleyball in the pool is a great time, you meet so many people from different places around the world. My wife and I are the type to just lay around and relax. I hear the excursions are good, but I find everything we need right at the resort. My wife loves their spa, she says they treat you so well. The view from the rooms are very nice, we recommend the ocean front room, so cool to be so close to beach. Their is a dinner option that is extra, but what a great time. We had steak and lobster at the gazebo by the pool for my wife's birthday. You can have it on the beach as well.

Excellent, Excellent Value

We got this trip at a third of the cost of our other Caribbean vacations and it was outstanding for the price. I highly recommend it if you do not want to spend a ton of money yet want a paradise type experience. First, I'll get the non-excellent out of the way: The beach is small, there is not a lot of area to swim and the beach layout chairs are all right next to each other, creating a claustrophobic effect. I am positive that is one reason why this resort is not super expensive, as the other places my wife and I have been have had a lot of beach and more separated areas (like two chairs under a palm tree, yards away from the nearest couple) for laying out and enjoying the view. Also, there is only one pool and the chairs are set up similarly. However, unlike the beach, the pool is massive. I always felt like I had plenty of space to swim and for the most part no one laid out next to us. So for the pool time we still felt like we were uninhibited and had a little privacy. Now, the great: First, the staff is exceptional all the way around. There were people at our beckon call, everywhere we went, be it restaurants, poolside, front desk, etc. They all were kind and ready to serve. They were everywhere, working, cleaning, serving, smiling, etc. I could not be more impressed by the staff. It was the next best thing to having butler service. The restaurants were great. There are four to choose from, 3 that take reservations in the evening and two that offered buffets for lunch and breakfast. I loved having the options. Making reservations was much easier and more convenient than other places we have visited. The quality of the food wasn't outstanding at every restaurant but it was always good enough and I always felt like I had plenty to choose from and to eat. (Two notable things I loved at one of the buffets were the breakfast french toast and the lunch chicken wings.) And again, we were waited on like royalty at every place. I loved the fact that everything was so close and easy to find. Normally at these all-inclusives it takes me a day or two to get oriented and other places have actually made us go to other areas for some restaurants. At this place, everything is right there by the check in desk and I was completely oriented within a couple of hours of being there. The daytime pool games and entertainment was top notch. It made the pool time much more enjoyable. We didn't participate but it was fun to watch others interact with the MC, who was funny and welcoming. Our room was great. It was comfortable, clean and well laid out. All in all, we loved it. We will be coming back when we are in a place where we need to spend less money than normal.

Not worth the money!

My husband and I just came home from celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary for a week at this resort and we are extremely disappointed. We are also confused because we have stayed at the Occidental in Peurto Vallarta and it was great so we assumed this resort would provide a similar experience, boy were we wrong. The food was TERRIBLE!! Bland and no variety, they served the same thing every day at the buffet. The restaurants were decent but nothing the brag about. The pool area was very crowded and the beach side had more lounge chairs than ocean we were allowed to swim in! It sits right next to a few docking areas so only a small section of where you are even allowed to swim in roped off. The only highlight of our trip was spending a day in Cozumel (highly recommend it) and our couples experience at the Spa (which is operated independently from the resort). For the money we paid, we will definitely not be back.

Pretty good...

The pro's... Very very good food and a nice clean comfortable room for the price. Best parts are food, room, pool, and value. The con's.... Not the best part of the tourist zone. You would prefer to get on the ocean front facing side with much more beach area. This hotel has almost no beach. No free wifi anywhere in the hotel. Expect to have to add this cost per device per person to your bill.. This adds up. Get another hotel with free wifi at minimum. Plus... it costs money each day and was 1990's slow. Overall for the value... was excellent for the entire cost of the trip. We choose Spirit Airlines as they were the "lowest" cost for a direct flight. We wont fly Spirit again. Enough said without going negative
