Just okay

I went with my friend for a week-long getaway. First off, if you are looking for some peace and quiet, this is not the place for you. There were way too many kids running around for my taste. I almost felt like I was the only one there without any. Dinner was an absolute nightmare one of the nights. So many kids running around, bumping into my chair, crying babies and kids wearing pajamas to dinner. There were some that were even grabbing their food right out of the bins with their hands, which really grossed me out. That night was the last night I ever ate there. I ordered room service one night, which was super cheap and actually better than the buffet. Well worth it. The rest of the nights, we went to restaurants across the street at the marina. The rooms were actually really nice, except I was supposed to get 2 beds and we got one king size, but it was on the 8th floor with an awesome view so we really didn't want to risk getting something that wouldn't be as nice, so we didn't say anything. The resort was fairly small and there's not much to do. We were going to go to the magic show the first night and then when we got there, there was a sign of what looked like Mickey Mouse hands holding a wand and a hat, so we figured it was geared towards the tons of kids that were there and just turned around and left. There wasn't really much action around the pool either. I guess I'm used to having some entertainment during the day. The most exciting thing that happened was having a ring toss competition with the guests and a shark dancing by the pool (ugh!). The beach was nice, although vendors walk around constantly asking you to buy stuff, so if you are looking to lay down with some peace and quiet, that's really not an option either. The location was good and was right next to the marina, which we walked to a few times to go eat and shop. The service was okay. Most of the time, we wouldn't be asked what we wanted to drink for breakfast until we were nearly done. The breakfast was the best meal of the day. It was really good and I actually took note of how they made their omelettes and have been making them everyday since I got back. Dinner was just okay. We were eating lunch at the buffets for a couple of days until we realized that there is a snack bar by the pool, which was awesome as well. We didn't have to change out of our suits. We could just walk up there and get a burger, hot dog, nachos, fries, etc. and go back to our lounge chair and eat. The best service was at the pool. The waiters come around all the time asking you what you want to drink and they are pretty fast too. Very impressed with the pool bar staff and they make great drinks!. Super nice! I think this place would be great for people with kids, but definitely not for couples on a romantic vacation or going with your friends to have some fun. I stayed in a Melia resort in Punta Cana, it was much bigger with more things to and better entertainment so I just assumed it would be just as nice. This resort just made me think that next time I will probably just go to an adults only resort so I can get some peace and quiet.

Great Spring Break Trip - Good Value for the $$

We thought the hotel was a great value. We booked this as a last minute Spring Break trip and we were worried about the reviews but we were happily surprised. We loved the grounds and thought it reminded us of Hawaii with the old the vegetation growth. We loved the koi ponds and old growth trees and the shade they provide. The fountains and ponds and water features were very nice. The pool area was big and never too crowded where you could not get a chair. We have been to other resorts and that has always been an issue. Even though there is only one pool, it never seemed too crowded and it was dirty. The pool fountain could use some work but it's hard when you have a hotel with lots of people there. I would recommend the hotel invest in a pressure washer to clean up around the pool area in the early mornings. Also, keeping the kids off the center fountain seemed to be a challenge and it always ended up causing the issues where the fountain stopped. They need to put a steel grid cover over it so kids can't stop the fountain completely and back up the pump. We also really liked the kids club. This was a must for us and we were not disappointed. If this is important for you, the Melia Kids Club is outstanding and your kids will have fun participating with their activities. People complain about the food but honestly, this is a hotel that is trying to cater to a lot of people from all around the world. I read some of the reviews and I feel like people are expecting to eat at a Michelin quality restaurant. For the price we paid to stay, the food was fine. The we always were able to find something to eat. I thought the Mexican food was authentic and the Sushi was a nice change. I know folks liked the Italian, it just was for me. I did like a lot of the other stuff and was really happy with the food in general. We were really happy with the breakfast and thumbs up to Sylvia and her great omelets. She remembered you order by the second day. The night entertainment was excellent and our kids really liked it. It gave us something to do at night without having to leave the hotel which was nice. The hotel room is the only thing that is keeping us from giving it a 5 star and where we had some issues. We paid for an ocean view which was excellent. Loved the view!! The main issue we had was the room had a musty smell and the room didn't was never really cool. While we thought we could deal with it, it did sort of bother us by the end of the week. It sort of messes with your sinuses and made your clothes smell. I think that the a/c wasn't dehumidifying properly. The second issue we had was that the towel service was not consistent. Sometimes there would be 4 towels sometimes there would be 2. Sometimes there would be a bath mat towel and hand towels and sometimes not. Either way, we didn't complain - since it was going to be a short stay. Overall, we were looking for a family-friendly resort and we found the Melia to be a winner. It seemed to be a popular brand in Mexico and there were a lot of guests speaking spanish. We also liked that alcohol was not the 'focus' like we have seen at some other resorts we have stayed at during spring break. It's an all-inclusive resort that I thought was very reasonable for what you get! Food, Staff and Entertainment are all great. It's an older hotel located in a very convenient location and it's close to the Airport and downtown. You have the Marina right there if you get bored of the Hotel and if want to explore. I think if you can overlook a few minor things, this hotel is an excellent choice!

the resort was good comfortable bed everything nice and clean the staff was amazing. just the food variety was not so good. the cheap Caribbean representative was not so eager to sell me excursions. I purchased one and then asked for info on some trips for the next two day. He said "I'll be back tomorrow you can purchase your next tour then". I was very surprised by his response. there was a promo available and he never mentioned it. It was a representative from another company that brought the promo to my attention.

What's to Love

The all-inclusive fabulousness: the food, the drinks, the everything is sandsational.

Teeing off at the Marina Vallarta Golf Course that's a coconut's throw from the resort.

Dropping the kids off at the kid's club then making a beeline for the swim-up bar.

Melting into stress-smashing, body-and-soul-soothing massages in an open-air cabana.

Swimming, floating and diving into the largest pool in Vallarta - zero-entry point for kids!

The all-consuming kids' activities: arts & crafts, ping pong, foosball, arcade games and more.

Visiting the landmark, the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe & zip lining in the nearby jungle.

The nightly shows - the dancers cut a rug with everything from retro to traditional cultural dances.

Hanging at the Marieta Islands and Los Arcos National Marine Park. Both are not far away.

What We'd Change

We wish the beach were a little larger, but the outrageously huge pool more than makes up for it with its jetted sections and zero-entry kids' area.

Why You Should Go

The resort is just 10 minutes from the airport so your fam's slammin' vacay will begin in a snap.

The hotel does not accept "Spring Breakers" - put your hands together for this one.

You can go whale-watching and deep-sea fishing. Go ahead - take the plunge.

There's jet ski and motor boat rentals plus parasailing, scuba, water skiing & more.

Hop on this opp: there's horseback riding. You can't miss this.

When you're drying off, you can play tennis, hit the climbing wall or batting cage.

Luckily, medical facilities are near should you trip on a coconut or have any other mishap.

Keep your svelte body looking svelte with yoga, aerobics and a fitness room.
