Fun in the sun
The Melia was a great place for families. So many activities for kids and a great way for parents to relax. Awesome food and a beautiful pool area. Thanks again.
I came here with a small group for a friends Bachelorette party. I tried calling ahead of time to set up a little welcome basket or something for our arrival. After trying to call and speak with someone 4 separate times and being transferred to 5 different people's voicemails (remember this is long distance) I finally was able to speak with someone that gave me options (all of which were extremely overpriced). I chose to have a welcome package with champagne in one room and they said they would send me a confirmation email. A day before our departure there was still no confirmation email and I could not get through to anyone. Needless to say, when we finally arrived no welcome package had been set up and we had to stall going to the room until they did it. There was no offer of a discount because of the trouble or any sort of accomodation and the front desk people were extremely unhelpful. Obviously was not a good start to our stay. Overall the resort was nice enough. The main pool by the beach would have been nicer if it wasnt so dirty and full of sand. The smaller pool away from the beach was really nice though. The food was surprisingly good and the restaurant options were great (other than the fact that you could only make reservations 24 hours in advance and they filled up really quickly but when you got to the restuarant it was empty). It felt as though everyone working there could care less if we were there or not, surprising in this economy. Thank goodness for good friends and us being able to have a sense of humor about how awful the service was, otherwise it would have been a ruined trip.
This resort might not have all the bells and whistles of a new resort but it is a very good deal for the value. The resort beach is nothing to write home about... small strip of sand. However they do offer kayaks which can be used to navigate to other beaches. (a 1.5 hour paddle will take you to a small fishing village and nature reserve full of birds.) The staff was incredible. Tip the maid a couple of bucks for beyond excellent service. Alcohol selection were good but study up on your shots and mixed drinks as they don't know how to make many. DO NOT TAKE A TAXI FROM THE AIRPORT. Walk out of the airport section and grab a taxi. Much cheaper and no airport drama or time shares.
My husband and I and our 3 children stayed at the Melia the last 10 days of July. Overall it was an enjoyable vacation, but I would not stay at this resort in the future. We checked in and handed the front desk a voucher for a free room upgrade which we were told we could not use. Our shower was not in operating order and had to be fixed in the evening just before dinner when all 5 of us wanted to take showers. My son's bunk bed sheets were soiled and had to be changed at 10:00 PM the first night we were there. Housekeeping would never leave us 5 towels each day, so we had to ask each afternoon for more towels and washcloths. Our kids enjoyed the beach although it was difficult to relax and enjoy with the locals constantly trying to sell us their goods. The pool was nice, we enjoyed the food and the nightly shows. Overall, our stay was enjoyable, but average. It was nothing spectacular.

These rooms also feature special amenities and exclusive benefits to pamper the parents and kids including: welcome gift, step stool for easy access to the sink, mini bar with juice and flavored milk, bunk beds, sand toys and much more!
The kids' programming is absolutely top-notch! Not many resorts have Flintstones(TM)-themed clubs divided into age groups to keep kids of all ages happy.
What We'd Change
We wish the beach were a little larger, but the outrageously huge pool more than makes up for it with its jetted sections and zero-entry kids' area.

Hotel Description
Melia Puerto Vallarta: All Inclusive Fun, Huge Pool and Flintstones(TM) Land
Why take your kids to just another park when you can hit the beach in a fun-filled paradise? Families are the priority at this Melia resort in Puerto Vallarta with kids programming for every age group. All inclusive perks give grown-ups a much needed break; nosh on nachos and sip strawberry daiquiris from La Palapita worry-free while the kids have free rein in the largest pool in Vallarta.
The resort's beachfront location lets guests spend all day lounging under palapas while the kids build sandcastles. The enormous pool is split up for maximum fun: jetted sections, an activities area and a zero-entry children's section. Splashing up a storm leave you with an appetite? Let the five dining options take care of it! From tender veal medallions at Vitrales to savory rib eye at La Palapa, families can dig right in. As the sun sets, the stars come out above and in the entertaining evening shows. Professional dancers wow guests every night at this Melia resort.
Puerto Vallarta is ideal for spending all day at the beach, whether you're just hanging out or taking advantage of the complimentary water sports. Teamwork is a must out on a kayak, and kids can spend hours scouting fish while snorkeling. Nervous about growing gills from all that water-time? There are tons of ways to have fun on land! Work on your swing in the batting cage, or aim for the bull's-eye on the rifle and archery ranges. And did we mention the fun that's in store for kids at Flintstones(TM) Land? Age appropriate groups, like Baby Rock Club, Bamm-Bamm Club and Cool Club means that each group gets an experience designed just for them. Whether they spend the day finger-painting or exploring the Yabba-Dabba-Doo Bazaar and Gardens, kids have a blast. And you'll have time to stop by an open-air cabana for a massage that soothes and pampers you.
When it's time for sweet dreams, families love the KIDS & CO Room with its bunk beds, special perks for the kids and a balcony. Your kids will make memories for a lifetime!
