Caribbean Jim's Comments:

What I love about this resort:
A very casual atmosphere here lends to a very relaxing vacation. The beach is shallow and great to splash around with the kids. The adults pool here is large and offers a tranquil spot to reach a book and get some sun. There's nightly entertainment which is a great after dinner activity.
What I wish I could change:
The property is small but offers a lot of activity in a relaxed setting.
Why YOU should go:
Cozumel, the island with something for everyone, in the sun. Melia Cozumel adds to the island flavor with a welcoming, casual atmosphere that great for adults and families alike.

It's a low-key, relaxed place with no pretentiousness and a generous supply of warm Mexican hospitality. The resort contains two good-sized swimming pools surrounded by expansive sundecks. Situated on a terrace above the beach, the main pool is adults-only and includes a swim-up bar. An activities pool for adults and children lies in the resort's middle. On this pool's deck are ping-pong tables and a ceramics palapa where guests purchase and paint figurines and bowls. Behind a hedge lies a shuffleboard court. This resort is also just across from the island's premier golf course, Cozumel Country Club, featuring an 18-hole, par 72, championship golf course designed by the Nicklaus Design Group.

The beach is down a short stairway from the main-pool terrace. Shallow but long, it offers palm trees and thatched-roof palapas for shade and lounge chairs for sunning and napping. World-renowned for snorkeling and scuba diving, Cozumel is surrounded by parts of the world's second-largest coral reef, which extends from Cancun to Belize.

The lemon-colored, 12-story tower is visible for miles. That color, accented by orange, blue, and rose, recurs throughout the resort, creating a bright, Mexi-Caribe look. The resort offers a wide range of facilities, services, and activities. A children's center entertains with video games, arts and crafts, and other activities. The resort offers Flintstone land and the Bam-Bam Club (ages 4-12) for our younger guests. Complimentary scuba and snorkeling lessons, dance and Spanish classes, water aerobics and beach volleyball are offered daily. Each night, the resort's activities/entertainment staff presents a show in the theater. After the show, the theater becomes a disco nightclub.

Within the lobby are two free-for-use computers for accessing the Internet. A health-and-beauty spa offers saunas, steam rooms, body and facial treatments, hair and nail care, and massages are available outdoors or indoors. Like most Cozumel hotels, the Melia Cozumel recommends guests not drink tap water; bottled water is provided.

DINING / BARS:

CAFE PARAISO - Built over a freshwater pond and containing a central aquarium, Cafe Paraiso provides air-conditioned dining under a large palapa, piano music, and varying international menus for dinner. Reservations are required.
LA ISLA - Offering the option of inside or outside tables on a rustic, two-level veranda with views of the sea, La Isla is the resort's main restaurant. Here bountiful buffets are set out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A different food and decor theme (Mexican, Caribbean, French, etc.) is presented nightly. Breakfast offerings include an omelet station. At lunch and dinner, the station offers grilled fare such as smoked pork chops. The desert station features exceptionally good cakes and pastries as well as puddings, custards, and ice cream.
LA IGUANA - Situated under a palapa near the beach and the resort's two pools, this open-air spot serves pizza, burgers, nachos, hot dogs, French fries, and other light foods from late morning until sunset. Seating is on a wood deck under a separate palapa overlooking the beach.

The resort contains four bars: a swim-up and beachside bar near the adult pool, a bar near La Iguana, a lobby bar offering piano music in the evenings, and the bar inside the nightclub Fantasia.

This resort may have a minimum stay requirement, and also may have a minimum adult age for check in. Please see the "Additional Information" tab for details.
