Very nice resort
No need to leave to see the rest of St. Thomas, if you didn't want to! We stayed at the Frenchman's Reef part of the resort - which has some awesome pools. The Morning Star resort with the beach and a couple other restaurants is a short walk away (or take the shuttle if you didn't want to walk). Our room requested was water view, king bed, high floor. Only the view was guaranteed and we did not get the king bed until the last night of our 4 night stay, but then thanks to Lisa at the front desk we were upgraded to a suite, which was on the 8th floor (top floor). Both rooms were very similar (comfortable beds. small balcony with two chairs and a table, facing the Charlotte Amalie harbor). Though very nice, rooms and common areas did not seem "brand new" renovated. (Some of the details like caulking, stickers still on the porcelain, wimpy closet doors, made it less than a 5 but, overall, very nice). The suite had two levels with a spiral staircase going up to the loft which had the king bed and a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi bath tub and separate shower. Downstairs was another full bath and a sofa / living room. We loved the view of the harbor - watching the ships come in and out. The resort had several dining options, including casual beach front dining at Coca Joe's and also the Sand Bar, so you did not have to spend a fortune eating each meal. (Meals are expensive on St. Thomas).
My daughter and I stayed at Morning Star which is apart of Frenchman's Reef a Marriott property. The hotel itself is nothing spectacular but the rooms were nice and the beach and the infinity pools were beautiful. The restaurants were very expensive, lunch was $50.00 and dinner $80.00-$100.00 per night for two people and that is no alcohol. I wouldn't recommend renting a car as the roads are very narrow, steep and there are a lot of hairpin turns, then add to the fact that they drive on the opposite side of the road. We took cabs everywhere, so in addition to the food expense add in $6-$12. per person each way. The shopping is great, lots of jewelry, perfume and watches all duty free. I would recommend Banana Tree Restaurant @ Bluebeards Castle and Mim's Restaurant. Not too much to do at night after dinner unless you drink. My daughter and I both don't drink so we were kind of bored at night. There was no music at this property not even by the pool or beach. The best feature of this property in my opinion is the beach and the view.
The vacation was a decent vacation overall. The hotel however is a little outdated and needs some work. The halls smelled of mold. The service and hospitality was pretty decent as well.
After reading numerous negative reviews on this resort, I was very skeptical of what our vacation would be like.
Our stay was wonderful!
The food was extremely expensive, but we were aware of that beforehand.
The staff we encountered were all extremely pleasant and each one always asked if our visit was going well.
Our favorite spot for an evening snack was the gift shop - Petronella was always so pleasant!
We went on several excursions using the Adventure Center. They were both very nice. We really enjoyed our excursion to the BVI's - do not miss this!

Is this a good snorkeling beach?10 answers

Take circumnavigational cruise (catamaran) around island and snorkel off of Green Island. Excellent views.
GAZZ
The coral cliffs outside Frenchman's Reef side of the resort offer some great snorkeling -- but there's no beach.
DanielleCC
There is a bit of coral and pretty fish to see on one side of the beach, but there are likely better locales on island.
musicearlyadopter
There is good snorkling at either end of the beach...it is a long wide beach. For the best snorkling, take the ferry over to St. Johns ($6.00 from Red Hook) and try Cinnamon Bay for the best in snorkling.
Mthyree
No, go to St. John.
beachbumette2
Best to take ferrie to St Johns at Turk Bay... worth the ride.

not really
speedr1023
In my opinion it is not a good snorkeling beach. We went to the Frenchman's Cove beach where we were told the snorkeling was better but we found it to be very bland. a few fish, grey rocks, nothing exceptional at all. We took a day sail on a sailboat and went to a couple of snorkeling places that were much better.
whatsthetruth
No, not really. I went snorkeling, and there wasn't much under there. It also has a bad undertow, so be careful if you're not a strong swimmer.
Sportstergirl
No. St. John (a boat ride away) has a better reputation. Trunk Bay is not so good anymore but other sites on St John are reportedly better.

Do kids stay free at the USVI Marriott deal? We just have one child1 answer

Currently if you book with out the meal plan a child under the age of 13 is free if they are listed as the 3rd or 4th guest in the room.

what does a child 10 years old need to go on a cruise?1 answer

angie
CheapCaribbean.com specializes in land and air packages. Flying to most of our Caribbean destinations requires a passport for all individuals, irregardless of age. The exceptions are Puerto Rico and the USVI which require a state issued ID and/or birth certificate. The requirements for cruises may be different. I would recommend going to travel.state.gov to search for the specific entry and exit requirements for cruises to the destinations of your choice.

Guests who select the Morning Star section will have direct access to the beach otherwise it is a a few minutes to walk. Morning Star section includes five two- and three-story beachfront buildings (exterior corridors, no elevators).
KellyCC
It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the beach, down steps, ramps, along sidewalks, downhill to the beach, uphill to return. I think it would be a problem with a broken ankle, but there is a shuttle which will pick you up in front of the hotel and drop you off at the beach so you should have no problem
whatsthetruth
It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the beach at Morningside. You must walk down steps, ramps, and sloping sidewalks. It would be a problem with a broken ankle, but there is a shuttle which runs about every 5 minutes that will pick you up in front of the hotel and take you to the beach and do the return trip.
whatsthetruth
You can take the shuttle down to the beach unless you are staying at the Morning Star (which is where the beach is). Otherwise, there are lots of stairs.
Sportstergirl
There is a shuttles that runs every 5-10 minutes t to take guests to and from the Beach. A few steps once you get there.

Reef is further: Morningstar is at the beach.

Is the Marriot Frenchman's Reef Resort have an all inclusive Meal plan?5 answers
3 months ago
Nic
I didn't see an all-inclusive plan. I wouldn't recommend the food there. It is extremely expensive. Take the water taxi to Charlotte Amalie and go to restaurants there. Most people the the restaurant "Gladys." It is down an alley in the shopping area.
Sportstergirl
The Marriot Frenchman's Reef offers the option to purchase the all inclusive package. Cheap Caribbean does carry the All inclusive package for this hotel on our website. You may search for this hotel by using our create your own vacation package entering your specific travel dates for St. Thomas or by using the Quick Search option you would then choose Marriott Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Beach Resort All Inclusive.
MeganCC
None that I know of.
Crobie
No, and you would not want that..go to town for dinner
unionftbal
they do not
The restaurants are a bit pricey, too, but they do have a gift shop/coffee shop that has sandwiches, pastries, drinks, etc. that are less expensive than sitting down in one of the restaurants.

My husband and I have twin 10 year olds. Can they stay free with this package?
Second question: the kids do not have passports, which I understand are not necessary since this is a US island. What form
Of government ID do they need to have? I'm not aware of kids government
IDs. Except birth certificates...?

US
Under our current specials children under the age of 13 stay free in the room. The maximum occupancy in the Resort View room is for two adults and two children. US residents traveling to the USVI do not require passports for entry, although it is highly encouraged. Birth certificates are typically an accepted form of identification, however it is a good idea to check http://travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html for acceptable forms of identification.

Hotel Description
Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort: Kid-Friendly, Fine Food, Chic Rooms
When the morning commute gets to be a drag, let the beauty of the Caribbean re-energize your spirit. The picturesque Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriot Beach Resort is the largest vacation resort in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and after a multi-million dollar renovation, it's even more gorgeous. The modern rooms and kid-friendly amenities lure couples and families to this Caribbean Eden.
Marriott Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Beach Resort perches on a cliff above the lovely Morning Star Beach. The water's great for body surfing, and the new infinity pool has spectacular views of the sunset. Kids get a kick out of the Splash Zone, and the Pirate Lore program has them re-living adventures in the kid's pool.
When hunger strikes, there's a tempting variety of dining options: Cuban sliders at the beachside Sand Bar are a house favorite at lunch, and tasty coco mojo camarones, or coconut marinated tiger shrimp, are heavenly at Havana Blue.
Great food isn't all this resort has to offer. Marriott Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Beach Resort has a full fitness center for trimming off the calories from that fabulous food you ate, and stunning views of Charlotte Amalie are a sailboat-rental away. Shopping in Charlotte Amalie is duty free, and golfers can tee off at the nearby 18-hole Mahogany Run Golf Course. Want to spend a cool day with the family? Swim with sharks and get close and personal with sea lions at Coral World Ocean Park.
Running around all day can take it out of you, and a Swedish massage at the resort's Lazule Sea Spa will have you refreshed no time. Nothing says relaxation like the modern decor and super-comfy beds in all the guestrooms. But we love the Water View Frenchman's Reef Room with its sweeping views of the scenic harbor and a private balcony or terrace. It's the perfect spot to simply enjoy this little bit of heaven.
