The hotel is okay, there was trash that stayed on the ground for 3 days. The A'C control is fair the room stayed warm most of the time . The bathroom was not vented and the A'C didnt go in there at all. No coffee pot in the room nor a clock. The kitchette was a joke 7 glasses, 1 plate, a frying pan and silverwear. There was a broken couch in the garden area that was there when I arrived and still there when I left. For those that need wireless, you had a signal at the desk area only. Remember the electricity is different, converters were available. Eating is better on the other side of the street, lots of choices but they eat later in the day. A lot of work needs to be done on the place, the fence was held up with boards, the sidewalk tiles were loose and you have to walk around a sewer cover that is 2 feet high that is placed in the middle of the sidewalk. I think I'll pass on a second visit
This is my favorite place on earth to relax. Great place to kick back, slow down and take it easy. The staff is friendly and helpful. About all we wore was suntan lotion. The French cuisine is wonderful, a bit on the expensive side compared to the US but we can live with it for the warm sunny days. The French know how to eat right. The portion sizes are smaller and so are the French people! L'Hoste is adjacent to the little village with about 6 different restaurants to eat and a few others within a 15 minute walk. There are also a few stores in the village including Tap 5 which is a small convenience store/deli/pizzeria, a pharmacy and a beach boutique. We don't usually get a car while there but use cabs and L'Hoste uses the BEST cab divers compared to some of the other places we've stayed that use gypsy cab drivers who operate unlicensed cabs. L'Hoste offers comfortable rooms cleaned spotlessly every day by professional, friendly maids. We'll be going back over and over and over.
The best thing about L’ Hoste is the location. It is right on the beach at Orient Bay, a short walk from your room. The place itself shows signs of aging and could use a good amount of upgrade. The staff were friendly and courteous and willing to help with any requests. The rooms were basic, but comfortable. I did have quite a lot of tiny ants on the deck and a few in the room, but not sure if that is just part of being in the Caribbean. Room service was prompt every day. Again, like much of the outside, there were parts of the room that could use some paint and upgrading. The pool area was nice and quite a lot of people gather around that area to get wifi in the morning. Two years ago when I stayed there, the provided breakfast was excellent, but now it just basic coffee, French bread, juice and a croissant. The extra items like fruit and cereal, that two years ago was free, you now have to pay for. The bar and the beach area is large and chairs are provided for guests. You can also walk either way to experience everything Orient Beach has to offer. There is also variety stores and fine restaurants within walking distance. I found I was able to find a much better price on a rental car myself than the one the front desk was willing to set up for me.
So in general, if you think of a hotel as just a place to stay and you don’t want to pay a great deal, L’ Hoste is a good choicel. If you are looking for a 5 Star resort then it is not the place for you.

St. Martin was awesome!!! I go to Puerto Rico every year and love it there. I thought that I would try St. Martin, since I love the Caribbean, and I loved living in Europe when I was in the military; this just sounded like the best of both worlds. It was, is, and will be for me for years to come!!! I now go to Puerto Rico and St. Martin every year!!!
The French side is much more relaxing than the Dutch side; it just depends on whether you want a wild nightlife, or a relaxing holiday.
The ziplining, cruises, snorkelling, and other sightseeing is excellent!!!
Make the most of your trip by planning ahead, and doing research so that you know , or have an idea, of what you really want to see; set your own itinerary and go from there.
Have fun, enjoy, and bring sunscreen!!!
