Wonderful time
We usually go to a all inclusive hotel. Although this cost a bit more ,It was worth it. It was wonderful. Service was great. Beautiful Hotel. Very relaxing. They so many things they do to make it a special . You can snorkle right off he beach at the hotel. We will go back.
The hotel is very nice but all walking---NO elavators, too much walking for older folks. Also swimming area & snorkling was jus FAIR, I thought it would be great! but it was not. Also the food was overpriced Dinner for 2 with a drink over $100.00. Too much for MEXICO. We went to 4-5 top ranked restaurants and they were all 1/2 of that ammount.

Where have the beaches gone?
We stayed and snorkeled here back in the 80's (before the hurricanes) and we loved it. It was absolutely the best vacation bargain to be found.
Now, the hotel has been considerably expanded and the rooms are very nice. However, the beaches have practically all disappeared, apparantly because of hurricane Wilma and another hurricane in the late 80's (about 89, I think).
Also, there is so much boat travel near the beach that the snorkeling area there at the hotel is much more limited than it was in the old days.
Also, the food at the hotel was expensive, costing twice as much as the same food in town. Drinks were also expensive although they weren't too bad during Happy Hour.
And the town has grown so much, probably 2 or 3 times the population as in the old days, so it was much harder to get around in town without a corresponding increase in the number of fun things to do.
All the hotel staff was very kind and helpful.

4 night girlfriend getaway in cozumel or playa del carmen and where to stay?2 answers
We only have 4 nights, want to stay in an AI for ease (although I have never done so and am struggling with the potential sillyness of it all). We like snorkeling, relaxing, want decent food, and a nice beach.

We usually say in a all incl hotel. Which are great. But sometimes loud, crowded ,and lots of kids, and drunk people. Don't get me wrong we like to have fun..but this was a pleasant change... quite elegant more relaxing. If you want to get crazy you can catch a cab downtown and go to a club. We stayed for 5 days . Three of the nights we went downtown for dinner. The town is clean and the food was good. Two or three cruise ships come in every day except Sunday, but they are gone by dinner time. They also have a desk where you can sign up for different things to do.
