Not worth the cost
The service was terrible. The resort did not have open dining through out and operated on strict schedules. Tried to make reservations for one of the 3 on site and was told there were non available during our stay and they could possibly work us in on the last night at 10:30 pm.
Only two bar's on site were open. The front desk mgmt and staff were slow in checking in and out, the managment not helpful and did not care when customers voiced concerns or questions. The manager when I spoke with him directly about the dining issue just sat there an looked at me with contempt on his face. The room was dirty as there were cob webs in the corners of the room, the water closet (Toilet) was not inclosed. There was no mini bar in the room, you have to rent a lock for the in room safe at $6 per day. The bars only carried local non name brand items. The staff was limited in being able to speak english. For the cost and compared to other venues i would strongly against going to this resort. After visiting Dreams and others like that IFA Villa's will greatly disappoint. The hotel is really cheap and not even a fair value but a poor one

Will return, it was great.
My fiance (got engaged there) and I visited this resort for a week in mid-December. It was a short ride there from the airport. Check -in was not as speedy as I would have liked, we were taken to a 2-bed room in the 300 level and we were told they were all booked. It was a very convenient location though. The next day we moved to a 400 level with an amazing ocean view.
Room: Both rooms were good. They look just like the pictures. The toilets are not all covered so hope you go with someone you are comfy with. They have doors which are clear and do not go up all the way. Beds were kind of hard.
Food: The food was good. For breakfast you only have a buffet option. For dinner you must make reservations. Tip: request a wake-up call and make reservations over the phone right at 8am. It is worth it. The food at the restaurants was good and detailed.
Pools and beach: the beach tends to fill up early so it can be hard to get a chair. The beach does have sea weed, but then again it is an ocean. Many topless women in the beach, so venture if you would like. The pools are good. The main pool is very loud, the one by the cafe shop is quiet yet, also has a bar. The smaller pool is by the wi-fi area and is good for swimming and quiet.
Atmosphere: Dance club is ok, DJ was not great and it appeared to have "working women" inside. Made me feel a little uncomfy. You must visit the cafe shop, great place to relax and meet new people. We did and we played cards and had everything from coffee to Capiinas (best here) The theater has nighly shows, they are hit or miss. MJ show was good, I think they have it on Fridays.
Ovearll: Great value for the price and aa great way to enjoy a good week. Avoid the salesman, don't order the extra sweet drinks, order a room in the 400 level, and make reservations for dinner. Oh and don't eat at the Las Velas Club Playa (by the beach) we had spoiled fish there.

good for the price
we were the only Americans there for 5 days. The walk to the beach was long. The service for food could be much better than it was. We kept asking for milk for our coffee and we finally had to go to the manager to get it. We thought the food could have been better as well Not a bad place to go for the money
Travelled to Punta Cana first week of November 2011 for my birthday. I had a good time - the service at the resort was wonderful. I have to publicly thank the IFA Spa for the delicious birthday cake and balloons they surprised me with it. From the bottom of my heart it truly meant a lot, as I celebrated my birthday alone.
My only critique of the resort is allowing smokers to smoke anywhere in the resort (with the exception of the restaurants). I'm not a smoker and found it irritable sitting in the theater with smokers who had no regard for second hand smoking. If the resort could specify where smokers can smoke seperately from non-smokers, this resort would be an absolute 5+ place to go.
I plan on returning - my family comes from Hispanola, and its good to be back with your roots.
Thank you Cheap Caribbean for a wonderful vacation - special thanks to Marie who was awesome in helping me plan this last minute trip!!

Not exactly! it is free to try out in the pool area but if you want to go into the ocean thats about $95.00 (American money) if you sign up at the resort.
TwoBeers
no they don't but maybe they offer a free lesson in the pool but im not sure about that.
redgina
No there is an extra fee for that
Mono
We only stayed 2 days before we relocated to the Iberostar Dominicana who does offer scuba diving lessons for free in the pool every day. They also have scuba charters leaving from the resort each day. I do not believe IFA would offer this but not sure. They don't offer much and that's why they are much cheaper.
ILike2vacation
Yes, but you do have to pay extra.
ChicagoLovebirds
no... this place charged for anything and everything... they make you check in and out pool towels or face a $20.00 fee for each towel.

Room Information
The 262 Villa rooms that the hotel has are divided into 23 independent bungalows, all one storey buildings with a garden area and a mixture of Spanish colonial and colourful Dominican style decoration. The Village and Ocean section rooms are located in buildings on three levels. All rooms have a french balcony or terrace (villas), fully equipped bathroom with hairdryer, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, refrigerator, Plasma TV with cable, telephone and, and for a fee, there is an in-room safe. There are also single rooms and rooms with connecting doors available upon request.
IFA Bavaro Village has 154 Superior rooms in two-storey buildings. 127 rooms are equipped with a double bed and 27 with a king size bed.
Getting reservations for the most desirable a la carte restaurants can be hard when the resort is busy, so choose what you want when you first arrive. The Village section can be a lot noisy, but, you are in the middle of the restaurants and activity areas which some people love.
Why You Should Go
This is one of the more affordable all-inclusive resorts in the Bavaro area, and will suit couples and families. The newly refurbished Village section is very comfortable with the latest flat screen TVs etc. The Villas section is definitely more laid back, but a little bit of a walk from the main pool area.
