My family and I had a wonderful week at iberostar Tucan. The atmosphere was truly beautiful. We loved the many animals and birds in this resort. The food was really good in the buffets and amazing in the specialty restaurants. I wish they would have had a few more pool tables and maybe a few more activities to do in the evenings. Overall we had an awesome week!

Fun, friendly staff, good drinks and food

Pros:This was my second time at the Tucan. There are many activities at Iberostar Tucan. Check out the star board for daily activities and times. The star friends are amazing. Stop and say hi to Sabrina. She runs the bingo and plays Dory in one of the evening shows. She's lots of fun. We were surprised with a bottle of wine and a fruit plate in our room the second day. Nice touch! the wild life was great. I especially loved seeing the monkeys on our balcony every morning. I thought the shows were awesome. The performers actually sing to a live band in the shows. The beach is clean but the ocean had some seaweed. Most days were yellow or red flag days. So the water wasn't as clear. I was there at Christmas so maybe other times the water is clearer. Christmas Eve the buffet had lobster. Loved it! I liked most of the food at the buffets. The theme buffets were great. I ate at the Japanese and steak house. Drinks are served around the pool if you don't feel like going to the bar. You get good service wherever you go. Bartender, waiters, waitresses, maid service work very hard to please you. Tipping is not required but they deserved to be tipped so take a lot of one dollar bills with you. Cons: It rain 3 days out of the 8 days I was there but it didn't spoil the fun. I painted pottery, watched the rain by the pool under grass umbrella, ate and drink. My one beef with the resort is I requested a room with two double beds 6 months in advanced and notified the resort a week prior to my stay. Upon check in there were none of these rooms available. I was given a room with a King Size bed. I traveled with a friend so I really needed two beds. There was a day bed as hard as a rock that I slept on so my friend had the bed. It doesn't matter if you make room requests ahead of time because rooms are given out basically first come 1st serve bases unless you are a Club member. The front desk did tell us that maybe in a few days a room with two beds would be made available which there was overlooking the pool but we decided to stay were we were overlooking the jungle and a view of the monkeys. I thought maybe this is why we got the fruit plate and wine. I did say earlier I liked most of the food. Well the fruit at the buffet didn't always look fresh and the cheese and salami plates looked unappealing. I think this is due to the heat. Overall we had a wonderful time even though I was very upset about the room issue for a few days. I would consider going back.

Nice all-inclusive option

This is my first all-inclusive resort. I like to leave my vacation itinerary open because I have a lot of interests. An all-inclusive seemed like a bad idea since everything I chose to do outside the resort would be wasting money, or more accurately, the money spent on the resort would be wasted, a little at a time. Now on the last day of the trip, my guess was pretty accurate. I would much rather have spent less up front and planned more excursions. As for the resort, nice but only that. The beach and pool were highlights, very well maintained. Rooms were just below Holiday Inn quality. Services were off the charts which was good and bad. Turns out I don't like having everything done for me. Food was varied and plentiful but the quality was unpredictable. Hard liquor was low quality. I am not an adventurous eater so I was constantly hunting for tastes and textures on which I could rely. Lots of bread! For what it is, I would call Iberostar Tucan a solid three-star resort. The food and room keep me from rating it higher.

iberostar tucan

I had never stayed at an Iberostar but had heard rave reviews. Particularily when they first came out. Had mixed feelings about this resort. The good: the pool and recreational areas were very clean and enjoyable. The wait staff in the restaurants and the bar were great. The resort is built around a jungle. That was very cool. Animals everywhere. The food was very good in the main dining rooms. Cant say so much for the pool area. The specialty restaurants were mixed. Some great, others lack luster. The bad" When we got there we had no AC in our room. Called down to desk 4 or 5 times. No one was sent to fix it. Put up with it. Rooms themselves need some tlc. The bed comfortors were torn in places and dirty as were the sheets. Fridge barely kept beverages cold and there were chips missing from a few of furniture pieces. Just looked a little dirty and sloppy. Biggest complaint though was concierge, front desk, and customer service. The guys at concierge were not interested in going out of their way to help you at all. When you walked away you heard them laughing. They would tell you to go over to the service desk and she would tell you go to front desk. Passing the buck big time. This didn't help when some of the people in these key positions spoke little English. There were plenty of bilingual staff. It seemed that not everyone was put in the right position. It wasnt just our issue, those we spoke to found the same thing. This area is so popular now, you kind of got the feeling that who cares if you are well taken care of. We dont need your business. Overall, for what we got the price was very reasonable, but I am not sure I would stay in another one.
